I have been using them for quite a while. They come every summer in July. The only thing is that it was a good thing that I was home because I had requested the bushes to be given a hard cut. If I had not been here the guy were not giving it a hard cut - a real close cut. I think there was a little bit of failure in communication but when they did do it, the work was done well.

Highly recommended. They are responsive, competitively priced, high standards, work ethic, online monthly bill payment, customize jobs as requested, donate service to military (of which I am not). This is my second review as Angie's List does not provide access to reviews after three years.

Very happy with the work and customer service. I was very nervous to have this done, as our basement has. Even getting water for a long time and I found it very overwhelming. They provided a quick estimate and were very patient with me and flexible on scheduling. We haven't had a drop of water since. I am beyond pleased! The owners son (?) is very knowledgeable and knows what he's doing. The men performing the work, worked their tails off and were very polite, made sure I was satisfied. The price was beyond fair and less than competitors. I will have them back for 2 more projects, maybe more!

The work was done relatively well.  All plants were removed well, the edging was done okay (more later), the planting was done well, the grass splitting was done well and the mulch put down fine. 
I liked them because they brought ideas.  They were punctual and responsive.  One plant needed replacing and they took care of it.  A few more look like they may have an issue and they are following up.  The only big issue I had was that the guys who edged the yard and put down the mulch did not remove all the edging debris (chunks of sod) but put some of them on the ground that was later covered in mulch.  I had to pick out multiple chunks of grass later as it started to grow through the mulch.  
All in all I most like their responsiveness and standing behind their work.  I will use them again.

For the price, I was disappointed in the attention to detail.  They often missed "patches of lawn which I had to cut after they left. They missed trimming around my firepit twice; they weed wacked the top off of a small magnolia tree I planted; they overseeded prior to removing the leaves from the lawn, so I had to redo the seeding.   I requested a refund, but haven't heard back from the company.
I cancelled the leaf cleanup services I had scheduled. 

the company came out and provided an overall cost for the work that needed to be done.  I asked for the project to be divided into smaller pieces that could be done in consideration of my budget.

The crew was professional, polite and hard working.  The same 2 workers serviced the lawn on a weekly basis.  The lawn always looked good and grass clippings were removed from the sidewalk.  I noticed on more than one occasion that the crew took extra effort to make the property look as good as possible. 

In addition to the performance of the crew, I also appreciated the efforts of Tom Sweeney, the owner.  I found him to be both helpful and friendly.  He responds quickly to phone calls, emails and estimates.  Monthly online account payment and customer flexibility in scheduling lawn cutting meet my requirements for seasonal lawn service and are the icing on the cake.  I did not find this to be the case at other lawn service providers I looked at prior to selecting Sweeney's.

In a word, I would highly recommend Sweeney's for consistency, fair rates, and customer friendly business practices.

Overall, they did a nice job on the lawn.  Unfortunately, what happened next was my worst nightmare!

I am an avid gardener and have several gardens including a monarch way station with over 40 varieties of perennials that I have been growing for the past 7 years.  I am very particular about my flowers and do not allow people to prune them because they have different requirements and several species are fragile.

When I inquired about the Fall clean up I specifically indicated in an email (written on October 10th) that I wanted to be home the day the clean up service was performed because I wanted to show them what they should clean up and what not to touch.  I leave many varieties of grasses and flowers through the Winter months for the birds and prune them by hand in the Spring.

I also called and spoke to the owner's son (Tim) who verified that it was written on my contract and he was going to come out with the crew to meet with me and mark the plants that they should leave alone.

Last Wednesday, November 16th the crew showed up to do what I thought was the final lawn mowing.  We were not scheduled to get our Fall clean up until the following week.  When I saw the two guys walking around my yard I went out there to make sure they knew that my butterfly garden and perennials were off limits when they came back (because I am so protective of my gardens).  One of them said they were not there to do the Fall clean up because they did not have time that day -- they would come back the next week.

I specifically showed them the hostas and day lillies and told them that those were the ONLY plants I wanted them to cut down.  One of the workers was speaking to the other guy in Spanish but I assumed the English speaking individual was translating.  I went back into the house and was working in my home office.  I heard the weed trimmer which is normal during grass cutting.  It started to seem like it was going a significant amount of time so I looked out the 2nd story window.  I was absolutely horrified to see a man mowing down all of my perennial flowers and creeping phlox to the bare dirt with a weed trimmer.  I ran downstairs and went outside. I jumped in front of my two last butterfly bushes that were still standing and said NO!

I was freaking out because he completely mowed down all of my flowers and plants in all of my gardens with a weed trimmer!  I immediately ran in the house and called Sweeney's Custom Landscaping and left a message.  The crew quickly grabbed their stuff and left within 15 minutes.  7 years of gardening was destroyed in 15 minutes.  I called Sweeney's again and no one answered or returned my call that night.  I emailed the owner and his email response was "OMG.  I will have to look into this.  I am sorry".  The next day his son Tim called me and apologized.  He said that the crew was not supposed to cut anything down that day and maybe they were in a hurry and that they screw up like that at least once a year...  I was even more upset on Thursday because I could see the devastation in the broad daylight.  My beautiful flowers were all gone.  I was so upset by the way they chopped up my butterfly bushes and russian sage.  The worst part was the carpet phlox.  He completely obliterated my phlox down to the dirt.  I cried. 

Under no circumstances should a landscaper "prune" climbing roses, lavender or a clematis with a weed trimmer -- particularly down to the bare dirt.  Additionally, they mowed down my mums that were planted last month (that were still in full bloom).  You cannot even tell they ever existed except for my photos. 

The worst part about all of this is the way in which the owner responded. He asked me to send him photos of my gardens before the debacle.  He said he was meeting with the crew chief this morning and would get back to me.  When I did not hear from him I emailed him again asking about what he was going to do to rectify the situation.  I have at least 20K tied up in my landscaping and although some of it may come back, I think it is only fair and just that Sweeney's Custom Landscaping replace the plants that they destroyed.

The owner, Tom Sweeney responded by stating that "He was a bit confused over the issue I brought to his attention. He looked at pictures of the property from this Spring before they cut everything down and pictures of the property after. He said he felt stuck in the middle of a "he said she said"."  Regardless of who said what -- a picture is worth 1000 words.  I have proof in writing that I did not want them to cut down my perennials.  Not only did they cut them down they destroyed them and ruined my landscape.  They are not admitting fault, attempting to correct the situation or offering me any type of compensation.  Lastly, they did a lousy half-a** job and left a mess in my yard.  There are still annuals stuck in some beds, debris everywhere and nothing is mulched.

DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE!!!  THEY WILL RUIN YOUR LANDSCAPE AND NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT!

Our experience with them has been good overall. They keep me informed and ensure that there are no issues with the lawn. They are reliable and communicate well. Their price is probably $1000 for a summer, and I think it is average. We would continue to use them in the future.

They are absolutely wonderful in all aspects. He came out and talked to me and scheduled an appointment with me. When he had to come out it was raining so he called to inform me about it. He walked with him and explained things to me. One of the men spoke fluent English. I stayed at home to check if they needed something. Their work was wonderful. They were clean, neat and picked up after themselves. They pretty much rearranged my yard for me- front and back. I would highly recommend them.

I have stopped using this company due to their non responsiveness. They planted the bushes too close together and not deep enough. When the plants died, they blamed me for not watering enough. When I would call them, it would take weeks for them to return my call.

Overall, did well. I would have like to see a bit more work done on one section of soil regrading, but overall they did do good work, were professional, courteous, reasonably priced, and Tom came to the job personally as well to help and oversee the project. I would definitely use them again.
