If I could give BNZ FLOORING CO and A+ I would. For over a year I could not pull the trigger after having met with a half dozen flooring contractors despite the fact that each was highly reviewed on multiple sites. When we met I knew Ben Nykiel of BNZ FLOORING CO was exceptional and I hired him straight away. The other contractors were well-rated, willing to install whatever floors I wanted but it was the last fact that was the problem--those pros didn't make strong recommendations like Ben did. Ben was the most prepared for our initial meeting; he listened to what I wanted, asked the best questions, educated me, showed many pictures of his work and made the strong recommendations of a man who takes pride in his work and is passionate about what he does. To be clear, Ben would have installed whatever flooring I wanted but despite my thorough research, my knowledge barely skimmed the surface of what would best for my lifestyle and my home's construction. Ben stopped by my house several times to check up on the progress of my job but his workers always had things well in hand. The usually 3-man team arrived early and worked late and efficiently for 2 weeks. The job of putting in hardwood is incredibly loud, dusty and it is nearly impossible to keep the site free of shards of wood, nails, and mess so no matter who you hire the process is no fun...the most you can expect is that when it's over the end product is top quality and exactly what you want. Ben's team installed over 1,000 sq ft of plywood over the 1890's subfloor and installed new white oak there then sanded down and renewed 400 ft of 30-year-old dented and scarred flooring. Ben helped me to choose a stain color and provided me with many options and ideas. It was at this stage of the project that I learned just how much product knowledge Ben had--he is an active member of the industry's associations and does a lot of continuing education to stay on top of new technology and trends of the products he uses. It was because of this expertise and flooring industry contacts that Ben had access to a superior new product that won't be available to most professionals for a few months--and he had the company's representative who helped to develop the product come to my house to educate and advise the team previous to the application process. I have the floors covered because other work is still going on in my home, will update this review with pictures soon.

Great.  The old refinished flooring and new flooring met in the hallway.  You cannot tell where the old ends and the new begins.  The crew was great, arrived on time and finished the work before the estimated time.  Pricing was very fair.

The upstairs are acceptable, but the lower part of the stairs are in bad shape. There are areas that were not sanded well enough and in other areas they were sanded too much. The steps going down stairs are very splotchy. The color does not match and they just did a very poor job. We asked the guy to come back and look at it. When he came back, he got upset and just left. They said this was the best that they could do.
Response from BNZ FLOORING CO
"It is sad to see customer falsify facts to make company look bad. It is not it my nature to turn back and walk away from the problem even if it not our fault. During refinishing of stairs, we will clean up all damage that can be removed with sanding. [removed member name] had a discoloration in wood and some nail damage; the only solution was to replace the stair treads or live with some imperfections. The customer did not want to replace treads going to basement. We finished the job per contract and customer approval. Customer inspected the job and paid us in full. In few days he put stop payment on check. We provide truthful, honest and professional business practices that meet our customer expectations."

The 2 man crew arrived promptly, sanded a portion of the floor, applied a stain on a small section so I could see what it would look like, completed the sanding and staining and cleaned up before leaving. They arrived early the next day and applied the two coats of poly and advised not walking on the floors for 12 hours. The dust containment system they use worked very well and I had very little sanding dust to clean up. I am very happy with the results.
