They are not cheap, but if you have an animal with anything unusual going on or an unusual animal they are the best to go to. Lots of people know about dogs and cats but now everyone knows about a degu for something like that. You can't blame them for being a lot cause health care is a lot especially for weirdly small animals. They always call right back when I have got a zillion questions or am panicking out about something. The wait isn't bad. Sometimes there is an emergency and I have to wait but that's the nature of going to a medical care place. We always keep going back to them.

They double booked the appointment so that we could get in sooner because I was very worried about my gecko. When I got there she had gotten a little cold because it was a cold day (since it is winter) and they were very kind to get her a heating mat during the exam to make her comfortable and were very gentle during the entire appointment. She didn't seem overly stressed.
They were able to squeeze her in to see the eye doctor while I was there with just a 10 minute wait and then explained what they found very thoroughly. He even drew me a picture to show me. They explained her treatment plan and medications just as thoroughly and also told me of the possible side effects and that I could call them if I needed to.
My gecko is recovering very well and am happy with the overall experience. I would definitely recommend them for exotic pets.

When he saw my cat he took great care of my cat. They were so caring they actually called me to make sure I got home okay when my cat died. He listened to me and they worked really hard to give my cat a long happy life.

After getting a couple ballpark estimates of $1300 and $1500 in the Chicago area to do a root canal on my dog, someone suggested I call the U of I vet school and see what they had to say. I reached Dr. Manfra, who said they wouldn't know until they had a look whether it was an extraction or a root canal; an extraction would be around $500, a root canal around $900. This was on a Thursday; we scheduled for the following Monday. We got there, and were almost immediately ushered into an exam room by two students and a resident. They did an initial exam, explained everything, how they would X-ray to see how much damage there was, what was involved in an extraction, what was involved in a root canal. They asked, if there was a choice as to what to do, if the tooth wasn't so bad that it had to be pulled, and if a root canal was possible, which did I want to do? I said, whichever is better for the dog, and I would leave that to their discretion. They said it would be a few hours before they knew anything, recommended a few places to go in the area, and said they would call when they knew something. They were wonderful. They kept me up to date on everything they were doing. When there was a delay, they told me about it, and explained why it was happening. I never worried about anything. The whole thing took rather longer than expected; the doctor wanted to have a big enough block of time to get the whole thing done, making it easier on everyone involved, including my dog. Afterward, they helped me get my dog in the car, explained all of his medications (antibiotics, pain meds, and anti-inflammatory meds for a few days). They had given the dog a sedative so he would sleep on the way home; they explained that he'd be a little dopey for the next 24 hours. The next day, they called to see how he was doing. This was great. I'm telling everyone I know that, when they have something that's out of the range of the neighborhood vet, this is the place to go. I never had any doubt that my dog was in good hands. This could have been a difficult experience; instead, it was as pleasant as it could possibly have been.
