"Mr. and Mrs. [Member Name Removed], With all due respect, we have been out to complete your full job and was done very well after all completed tasks. We also have had all Ameren authorities inspect your job as well. They have no complaints what so ever. When we quoted you to have the work done, we generously provided you with all Ameren Incentives you qualified for off the top of your contract price. Therefore, you immediately received your savings. In order for us to be refunded the savings, Ameren requires a post test for blower door air sealing results. We done this while Ameren was present as well. Unfortunately for us, we do not get our Incentives back that was given to you up front because you refuse to sign the Ameren Incentive Applications. We feel Illini Home Improvements has done a very complete job and you should tell a difference. We strive to leave our customers completely satisfied. This is our main goal in business as well as save you money. If you have any further questions or complaints, please call our office and we will be sure to resolve any issues you may have. Again, Thank you for your business."
Went ok. Attic needed insulation, energy credits were good incentive. Illini Home Improvements was very clear about what they were going to do and what credits we would receive. Actually called on an earlier date than expected to come and complete job. Only problem was that I hadn't moved or covered things in basement, and there was a few items that
got dust and/or small amounts of foam insulation on them.
Kody finished his work quickly, did a second pass to make sure all gaps and crevices were sealed, and swept and cleaned up to be sure there were no small pieces of debris which fell on the floor. What a great experience!
Though it took Kim a few days to call me back to set up a time to give me an estimate, when he came by, the estimate was very reasonable and they were able to schedule the work to be done within 2 days!
The insulation dried quickly and left no smell that I could notice. I am very happy with the work performed.
The next season I began experiencing moisture problems. I have an endless pool in my garage because I have a severe case of fibyromalgia and doctors claim it gives me the ability to stay active and able to live alone at 71 years of age. The pool had been installed two years before this insulation was blown in and presented NO moisture problems until the insultation was added. As suggested by Ameren I put in a motorized side vent in the garage even tho I was not experiencing problems.
The next season, I began seeing water spots on the garage ceiling. I had six professionals here to inspect the garage attic and they all said the same thing. Illini Home Improvements had not installed "proper vents". The insulation had been blown in over the vents in the sophetts; thus the moisture; the air flow had been solidly blocked off. My contractor, Dillmans, asked me to call him. They expected that Mr. Curaco would come out and make it right. Instead he got angry, said he never puts in "proper vents" even in his own new house and was insulted by the charge for he is the best insulator in the state!. He told me the problem was that "you have a g.. d... pool in the garage". Well, it was there, he saw it when he was here to blow in the insulation. The insulation for over the garage was blown in through the pull down stairs in the garage. He later called back to set up a meeting with me, his brother, and himself. I did not return the call; I am not stupid. One woman against two angry men that wanted to defend their reputation. I did not have the time.
Insulation was removed, proper vents were installed and insulation blown in again. I spent $1400. I sent a copy of the bill to Illini Home Improvements with a note that said, "any man can make a mistake, but it takes a big man to correct it". I also sent a copy of my letter to Ameren because they list them on their recommended providers list. No response from either.
October 21, 2012, I was in the pool for a few minutes. While doing stretches, I heard something that sounded like a gun shot. I looked around to see a large section of the ceiling over the pool on my back. I was able to crawl out before the electrical fixtures hit the water. I am lucky to be alive. I did not think I was hurt at the time. But since I have been experiencing problems that may very well be the cause of the pain I am feeling in my back and left side.
The rest of the ceiling over the pool came down. I had to hire someone to clean it up. Then I have had to put in more insulation (most ended soggy in the pool), a vapor barrier and a new ceiling.
I WOULD NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!
"We recently became a member and wish you had expressed your concerns with us about our service. I would like to address the issues you are/were experiencing. Yes, we did received from you an Invoice for the repairs that you had done by a different contractor. When I called to set a time for myself and my brother who is BPI Certified (nationally certified to access all weatherization situations), you chose not to return my call, instead hire a different contractor to do the repair work. We were by no means angry, just committed in providing our customers with total satisfaction. Satisfied customers are our biggest achievement. Whenever you introduce a pool to the interior of your home, there are considerations you must take. The moisture content that is now effecting your home is 10 times the amount that it was designed for. The vent fan will only work if it was sized right and used in conjunction with a humidistat. The standard drywall in your garage was never made to withhold this amount of moisture. Even blue board they install in bathrooms will not handle this amount of moisture you have presented to the garage. Also, take into consideration of the humidity the concrete floor is subjecting the drywall to in the beginning. You hired a contractor on 3/16/12 to provide and install proper vents in the kitchen and attic, 4 box vents in the garage roof, R-19 fiberglass blown in insulation in the top attic ceilings and fire-stop around the duct work at the ceiling in the garage. Your review mentioned that they removed and replaced our insulation. I understand your distress. (We strive to deliver complete customer satisfaction) When your ceilings fell in on 10/21/12 (8 months after the new install from a different contractor) we do not feel like we should have been held accountable for that mishap. We wish we had a chance to resolve this at the time the work was done. We fulfilled our contract agreement, however given the chance, we would have taken the proper steps to completely satisfy you. You did not accept our invitation to do so."
"Install was a no call/no show twice. During install they fell through the drywall and did a very poor repair, which had to be refinished by a professional. Vent extensions in the attic were not installed to industry standards. They were not secured and have since fallen off As being a new member to Angie's List, we were not aware of your distress. We apologize for any inconvenience our company may have caused you at the time of your service. Your review meant a lot to us, and by doing so, since we have replaced the unqualified worker subjected to this matter (shortly after your install). Satisfied customers are our biggest achievement and take great pride in doing so. We hope you will consider us in future projects."
