Performed necessary testing and treatments without pushing extra testing and or unnecessary treatments. Staff was more concerned with animal's welfare and outcome than pushing for more expensive testing and treatments. Staff were caring, understanding and professional.

I moved a year ago but I've followed them consistently for 40 years. They are awesome. They were very consistent with how they treated the animal, with compassion and care. They didn't price gouge. Their entire staff was friendly. The office is clean. It was just a very healthy and loving environment. They were down the street from where I lived. I wasn't satisfied with my previous vet so I thought I'd give them a chance. They were very punctual which is nice because they value the time which is excellent. I recommend them constantly.

When I went in to get a container to collect my dog's urine in, Sam at the front desk said that I could not collect the urine myself. She said that I would have to make an appointment and that they would have to collect the urine. I asked her what would happen if they weren't able to make my dog give a sample at that particular time. She said they have ways of getting it. (A needle in the bladder is what it says on the internet.) I don't want to put my dog through that if I can get the sample myself (not to mention having to pay for an office visit). Since my dog has been in for all her annual shots and is up-to-date on everything, I didn't understand why that was necessary, but I went ahead and made an appointment. The soonest they could get me in was Monday, five days later. I did go home and send an e-mail to Dr. Mears explaining the situation and politely asking her to explain her policy. It's been two days and I haven't gotten a response. I called Northgate in Collinsville and asked what their policy is. They said that as long as the dog has been in within the last year, that a urine sample could be brought in without an appointment. Dr. Mears and her staff are very nice and seem to truly love animals, so that isn't the problem.
I am switching to Northgate for the following reasons:
1. Don't like the previously mentioned policy.
2. Takes too long to get an appointment. (I had to wait almost three weeks to get in for routine shots. Took five days to get in for a suspected UTI.)
3. There is only one vet in this practice.
4. The office is closed on Wednesdays and closes additional days around holidays. For example, they are closed for the 4th of July between July 3rd and July 7th.
5. Very slow to respond to requests. For example, I had an online pet meds store send a fax requesting authorization to fill a prescription for Revolution. I had to call Dr. Mears' office two times reminding them, and they finally authorized it after a week.

The vet is amazing. I've been going there for about a year, since they opened. I like everything about them. They have an amazing, incredibly compassionate and empathetic staff. They are knowledgeable and consistent in their customer service. They were amazing when I put my dog to sleep. The love and compassionate made me feel like they had lost a family member. It made a big difference that they cared. The price was next to nothing. I would use them again without a doubt.
