Don (and his team) are the absolute best contractors I've ever worked with. Not only does he do excellent work - always, he shows up when he says he will, doesn't spend money he doesn't have to, and comes up with great ideas for improvements. He just finished our 800 sq ft basement, that had been wrecked by our pets over the past few years. Ripped out drywall, flooring, patched walls, painted, added trim, can lights, fixed doors, and cleaned out years of dust and junk. It is absolutely beautiful and we can't wait to furnish it. We've already contracted with him for an additional project in January 2025. Book him now - he's busy!

The forecast Monday Dec 28 had been for a few inches of precipitation, most of it rain and then highs in the upper 30s and no freezing temps for about a week. So we thought no biggie, it will melt!
Instead we started with rain, ice balls, sleet, and finally several inches of rain/snow and then it got cold... really cold
So we ended up with this massive block of ice we call a driveway ... yesterday after work my husband goes to start up our snowblower to give it a shot and despite just having had maintenance done on it,  it wouldn't start (it probably knew what we had in store for it and heard all the other snowblowers dying...). My DH wanted to start shoveling at that point, and I didn't really feel like a trip to the ER with a heart victim so I put that thought to rest ... much to his relief.
So the epic fail of the snowblower last night, my husband went off to work and said "let's get someone in here to clear off the driveway" (I'd been thinking this for several hours already ... actually since Monday!), so to Angie's list I go. Only 2 providers within five miles so I called the 1 at the top, which is Abel Services (but you know that already). He cautioned me that this would be a difficult job so the driveway would not likely be pristine when he got done, but heck anything's better than a snow-filled bumpy ice rink, right? Plus because everyone's been so busy, I frankly was just happy to get someone out here for a one off!
He did a really good job despite the conditions (which means he did a "A" job) and our driveway is now able to be driven on again (I had already gotten stuck trying to get my car out of the driveway so he could plow it) and I can venture out there again as well to get the mail.
And I can verify the phone number works!

Don Abel came out last fall to survey the job. We discussed options and I chose the one I felt was best. He then sent me an itemized estimate by email. I felt the estimate for power washing was too high and fortunately have a neighbor who does that, so got it done for less. Don did not argue. I wasn't able to get the job done last year, so I contacted Don and asked how long the estimate was good for. He told me it was good till October, when the original survey and estimate were done.
We set a date for the work. Don called me and said he'd had a cancellation and could come sooner. They were punctual and worked all day for two days, Don and another man working the first day, Don working alone the second day.
I couldn't be more pleased with the results. He told me the new wood couldn't be sealed for a year or two because it would need to absorb fully the chemicals that made it pressure-treated wood. I will probably go ahead and seal or paint the old wood that was able to stay in place on the decking. Now I have a beautiful dock that, he said, may need minimal maintenance yearly depending on what ice does over the winter, but no more than that.
I couldn't be more pleased. I wish I could include a picture.

Don was friendly, punctual and extremely helpful. He went above and beyond when he pulled his hand shovel out of the truck which was beyond the scope of work. Will definitely use him again!

My husband was home because of a foot surgery so he was able to see Don and Earl work very well together. Out treehouse was not easy because we had slanted walls and tilted/crooked windows to make it fun which required many unique cuts. Don and Earl went over and above our expectations. They installed our slide, rock wall, and climbing rope so our kids could play on it while they completed the house section. I thought that was incredibly thoughtful. They also came back and installed our accessories, built an awesome railing out of tree branches, and a custom tree branch ladder for our trap door. They were both so creative and added so many fun touches to our treehouse!

Owner Don Abel sat down with us to discuss what we needed done, then went promptly to work. Don often had good ideas that we hadn't thought of on our own. The work was always done perfectly, and on budget. Don was always on time, and he cleaned up the debris from the many jobs he performed for us. Our favorite work performed by Abel Services was the protective structure built over our rear basement door. The structure adds to the beauty of our home, and fits the style of our 1956 building. Abel Services has also done power washing, drywall, painting, plumbing and landscaping for our primary and secondary homes to our great satisfaction.

We would recommend Abel Services to anyone needing any type of work, as owner Don Abel seems capable of doing it all!
