We've used Mark a few times now after he was selected by our home inspector to check out the furnace and air-conditioning before the purchase of our house. This time I called him in because something in the furnace was making a big noise when we kicked on our A/C for the first time this year, and I had him do a whole inspection while he was here.
Of course the noise didn't happen when he came, though Mark worked to eliminate every little rattle we could hear. Our furnace and A/C are about 19 years old, so as he said, the noise could be from the aging blower inside the unit, which would be a much bigger job to check out. I did not have him do that, and he offered a 30-day guarantee saying if the big noise returns, he'll come back and try again to solve it.
Mark does a thorough job inspecting and cleaning everything and advising me on what he's done and what I should do, such as change the air filter!
In a visit last year, I called Mark in to figure out why the heat wasn't kicking on in the furnace. Like a sleuth, he figured out the fan was blowing out the flame, and he installed a little part to block the air from hitting the flame. It was an inexpensive solution.
Back during the home inspection, he saw that some of the piping was substandard, and we had it replaced. During this latest visit, he noted where rust was threatening other piping, but he said it wasn't a problem yet. I'm always impressed with his eye for detail, but he doesn't push a sales job on me.
The total price for the inspection was higher than I've had in the past. The worst thing is the humidifier filter replacement and cleaning was $40, and after I saw him do it I thought, well, I could have done that for much less cost. I've had that humidifier experience with other heating and A/C companies, too. Otherwise I think Mark is worth the price.
