"[Removed Member Name] told us she had pops on her patio which they "love" and wanted me to come out and look at it. I did it right away and told her it was a couple of pops that the winter freeze thaw cycle shot up to the surface. My professional opinion was to leave them alone because if you start putting patches on your patio you will always see them and they do not hold up. This is all that was wrong with it. Every now and then you have a customer that knows more than the Owners of a company. We had a hard time when we did the job with not being there even though it was raining and we would tear up her yard she was upset with our normal pace of doing a patio project. We have been in the business for over 15 years and have repeat customers who praise our work. This just goes to show how some people are."
between the sidewalk and the street is disintegrating. When I asked them to come take a look
(I asked for a personal meeting ? he?s only responded via email), his response
was: ?The damage is located at the apron
only. Driveway is fine. The City salting and City plowing has affected your
apron. Our concrete supplier is a
Union concrete company. They warranty the concrete for one year and so do we.
It has been over one year and they will not even go and look it at because it
is out of warranty.? That I could
deduce myself ? it is obvious, because of the affected area, that winter
salting is the cause. The questions
he wouldn?t/couldn?t address are:
How come my neighbor?s 6-year-old driveway, 15 feet away, is not
affected? How come my neighbor-across-the-street?s 8-year-old
driveway is not affected? They are
subject to the same conditions.
But I can answer that: It
is an inferior product. For $10,000
we expect more than one year of standing up to normal, Midwest winters.
The patio is stamped with the "majestic ashlar" pattern. The openings to the patio were donein a heavy stone finish.
We are totally happy with the end result. Do not hesitate to ask K&M for their ideas and recommendations. Their input helped make the finishede product better.
Also, our project involved landscaping. K&M recommended Apple Blossom Landscape. The two companies did an excellent job of working togeether. It made things flow smoother.
Additionally, we had been working with Kent on the basic layout of the patio as well as the actual stamp and color that we wanted to use. He kept saying that he would pass along the info to his brother Mike, who would actually be doing more of the designing of the patio once we had our seating wall in. With our seating wall complete, the K&M crew came out and dug out half of the ground for the patio. I received a call that afternoon from Mike who said he needed to talk to us about the design we picked. We met at our house that evening and he said that he couldn't do the stamp that we had wanted based on the shape of the patio and it wouldn't look very good. We were furious! He kept offering suggestions of other stamps that were clearly not our style and we felt like we were backed into a corner as this was the design plan for months and at the last minute, we couldn't do it any longer. We threw a complete fit and decided to move forward with the stamp anyhow, even though Mike didn't recommend it. It turned out exactly how we wanted it, so not sure why they had caused us so much stress at the 11th hour. They even followed up to see if they could do a photo shoot there because it turned out so nice.
We were pleasantly surprised at how little impact the workers had on the surrounding landscaping and lawn. We didn't have to reseed anything and they cut the exact size of the patio out of the lawn so that when they were done, the existing lawn went right up to within 2 inches of the patio! They laid down boards to protect the lawn from the traffic from the front of the house, and picked them up every day when they were done. I had already planted what I now realize was a minefield of Hostas around the area they were working in, and every one of them survived.
The workers were very professional and kind. Our young daughters sat on chairs at the glass slider to watch the workers when they started to remove the existing stoop. We had a toad that lived under the stoop that our girls had named and were worried about when the stoop removal started. One of the workers found it and rescued him to the huge delight and approval of their "audience":). Even though we had horrible weather ( LOTS of rain) this spring for cement work, they finished within 2 weeks of our tentative start date. Because of the bad weather, they kept us up to date on what they could or couldn't accomplish on a given day, and did a lot of the work in the rain. We really had a great experience with this company and would highly recommend them.
Mike Williams led the work crew that arrived as planned. Again, like Kent, Mike explained what was being done and answered any questions or concerns. The old drive was removed early on the first day and by the end of the day, the new forms were in place. Everything was complete a couple of days later and we waited for the concrete to cure. About a week later, the acrylic sealant was applied.
