They showed up before 8am and were done by 3pm. They were clean and tidy. There were mainly two repairmen and for a short while a third showed up. All were friendly and knowledgeable. The bill came was the same as the estimate.

I've used Toms in the past and didn't have any major issues (other than a few minor nit pics). This day was QUITE different and i will never use them again in the future. First issue i had with them was they came out before i bought the house to inspect the air conditioner and furnace. The guy from toms called me and said he couldn't inspect the air conditioning because it was drizzling and he said the upstairs furance seemed in fine shape and he goes on and on how the previous owner seemed real trustworthy that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the air conditioning units. So they charged me full price for a service call and then i never got the air conditioning units inspected like they should have been.
Second issue i had with them is they inspected the lower level furnace and advised me it needed to be replaced. The old unit was a 80,000 BTU and Rheem only made an 70K & 84K BTU units. He said i "probably" go with either but advised i go with the 84k BTU unit. I agreed. I then ask him if i paid in cash would they accept $2500. He called me a few days later and said they would. They come out on the day of service and install the new unit. I give them cash they gave me a receipt. I thought it was funny after they left that they should have given me a manual or something. Come to find out there was a manual but the install guy left it in the basement on top of the washer/dryer that was right by where he was working. While it was a little unprofessional it wasn't that big of a deal. So then i start flipping through the manual i notice that i got a 70k unit. Again we had agreed on the 84K unit
I then call and talk to Bobby (this is who you will always talk to when dealing with quotes an such). I was very calm and collective and just though a mistake had happened. He immediately starts getting angry telling me there is less than a space heater difference between the 70K btu unit and the 84KBTU unit. If he was right then the engineers at Rheem wouldn't have made two different size units. If he would have apologized and said a mistake had happened it wouldn't have been a big dea and offered to remedy the situation it wouldn't have been a big deal but thats not what happened at all or if they would have done an HVAC load test and the 70k BTU unit would have been the right size for my house it would have been fine too.
First of all probably MOST homeowners wouldn't have looked and this is a SLIMY way for toms to make a few more bucks. So in most cases they would get away with it. If they didn't want to agree to my $2500 for the unit we agreed on that would have been fine but they should have told me they couldn't do the 84k unit @ $2500 but instead they tried to give me the cheaper unit to compensate.
After doing research what they SHOULD have done is do a HVAC load test. Quite often the size of your AC/Furance is sized wrong when they either replace or originally put the AC/Furance in. For an authorized dealer a HVAC load test should be the default. Not for toms. They look at your old unit and try to give you a size comparable to that (its the extremely lazy/cost effective way to do it). This can cost you a lot of money in the long wrong if the unit is sized wrong.

We requested and received several quotes from Springfield area businesses. Tom's quote was delivered promptly and fit all of our requirements. We had to wait a week for installation, but fortunately the weather cooperated. Two men arrived with the new unit on time on the scheduled day. They were very pleasant. The work was completed on time. They cleaned up the mess. They also pointed out an issue with the other air conditioning unit and corrected it with minimal expense. The new unit works well and is we are very happy with the service that we received.

I thought he was very helpful and made some suggestions about unit filters to purchase. I was also impressed with the work he was doing and was helpful with answering all of my questions. I would definitely recommend him to others.

The price depends on the size of the house. He gave me a bit of a discount because I paid the whole thing in one shot. He came back and cleaned up all the mess. I would rate him highly across the board. He actually gave me his personal cell phone number, so that I don't have to go through the office, because we work on a weekend, we're building it ourselves and so he said just in case there was any pressure when the electrician came, so I thought that was pretty cool. His punctuality was very good. I would use him again in the future.
