Decking specified in original agreement called for no joints on diagonal pieces., but into the work the specified material and quot;was and quot;not availableand quot;, so he used and quot;availableand quot; decking which required splices. The ends of boards were not correctly sawed (45 deg. angles) resulting in truly ugly splices and board ends, in addition to not always being cut to the required length. Sealing the deck was not part of this contract, but the finish which was applied three months later has peeled and cracked off, primarily due to the quality of the decking (itself splitting and bowing) furnished.
The underdeck ceiling system was sloppily installed with no provision for properly mounting the support pieces on the wall. One of two downspout drains provided by the manufacturer of the system never discharged water because it couldn't , .due to the slipshod way it was installed. In the contractor's defense, the underdeck system was new to him, but the manufacturer supplied elaborate detailed installation instructions, as well as a detailed video to guide them. A little more time and patience could have made a BIG difference in the quality of the work.
Mr. Mundstock appeared to be having severe labor problems at the time, and may have gotten past them by now. I hope so!
All in all, it was, and unfortunately continues to be, a truly bad experience for my wife and I.
