Moscardelli staff responded to questions by phone and came to the house to provide an estimate. Scheduled the move for 8:00 a.m. Two young men came promptly at 8:00, introduced themselves, did a walk-through and started the move. Furniture and boxes were in the new house in about 3.5 hours. Between my husband and I, we have used Moscardelli on at least three different occasions in the past and were pleased with their response each time.
.
I booked this move with Moscardelli's about a week in advance, deciding to use a full service mover so that they would have the truck and blankets, rather than my coordinating all those things and just hiring muscle as I had done when I moved to Springfield. Having grown up in Springfield I was familiar with the name and thought they were a reputable company.
The movers showed up about 15 minutes late for our Friday, 8am, start time. I, on the other hand, was early so that I would be sure not to keep them waiting. Not that big a deal, but it would have been nice if Moscardelli had called to let me know they were running late without me having to call them to be reassured that they were coming (I've been stood up by movers before.)
When they arrived, the two men appeared friendly and ready to work. It was lightly drizzling so they had to take extra time to cover the ramp with packing blankets.
Pretty much right away into the loading the lead packer curtly let me know that he was in charge by out of hand rejecting my recommendation that they load like-labeled boxes together in the truck. He said that sorting would best be done at the apartment. That might normally have been the case if things had not deteriorated from that point forward...
The minute I made one comment to the loader that I was concerned that my dining room table not be set directly on the truck floor (as I watched him set it directly on the truck floor) I got to hear how he was a professional and had done this many times and that he knew best how to take care of my things. That turned out to be an often repeated comment as I tried to have some say in how MY things were being handled. This man clearly had a big chip on his shoulder and took everything I said or did as a personal affront to him.
At my apartment, where they arrived at least 10 minutes after me, even though I’d stopped at the storage unit office and the donut shop when I left them to close up their truck and head out, they quickly started unloading my things. As they would come in with things I would point them to where I wanted them to go, sometimes pulling a box or small item from the top of the load so that I could place it, rather than give them directions on every little thing.
About 1/4 way through the unloading, the lead packer came in with one of my large, heavy, upholstered chairs. I watched as he inched his way through the outer entrance doorway, so as he was maneuvering through an inner doorway I reached out to guide the legs through to speed up the process and help make sure he didn’t hit the doors. He blew up! And again I had to hear what a wonderful mover he is and how he wasn’t going to hurt my furniture. At that point I reminded him that they are my
possessions, and that I was paying for his time, so I had a right to be concerned about him moving things both carefully and quickly.
Talk about drama! His response was to call to the Moscardelli office in a fit, all within hearing distance of me and my new neighbors, telling them that they would have to send out another mover, that “this lady” was “grabbing things out of his hands.” Of course, that was pure nonsense -- I’m a 54 year old woman with a bad back! -- I certainly was not grabbing a heavy chair or
anything else out of his hands! I made my own call to the office and told them I didn’t want to put up with him and to please send someone else, which they said they would do. In the end no one else came and the same guys completed the move. It was a miserable atmosphere and what could have been a pleasant enough experience was ruined by this man’s irrational behavior. Fortunately, at least the other mover was great and I gave him a good tip since I didn’t think he should be punished for the actions of his co-worker.
Why I’m most upset is not so much that this man was clearly unprofessional and difficult to work with, but that no one from Moscardelli’s management reached out to me to discuss the situation or apologize for his behavior after the move was completed. I will find another company to do my next move.
I do not recommend them for any job- no matter the size.
They have a great price, but you get what you pay for. The crew arrived late and complained the entire time. They were too lazy to wrap any items and as a result, several things were damaged.
When the problems were brought to the attention of the management, they took NINE MONTHS to resolve the issues. This is absolutely unacceptable!
Moral of the story- do NOT use them unless you want your belongings broken.
