Lawn Tool Repair
$475
I was seaching for a good used mower. I was referred to "Mr Buscuit" by a friend who told me he ran an honest used mower shop.  He had used mowers for sale, and I agreed to buy both a used Toro riding mower, and a push mower.   He assured me they both had been inspected and were in "tip top shape."  He also said if I had any problems,  just call him and he'd take care of it.  He gave me his cell and private home number in case I needed it.
He also said for $35 he would order a new seat for the riding mower if I wanted it, which I agreed to.
He was 3 days late in delivering the mowers to me.  Both mowers worked fine upon delivery.  A  week later, the riding mower was dead and would not start or even turn over. I phoned him multiple times (6-8) seeking his help.   Initially he called back but he had multiple excuses for why he could not help me.  After > 1 week's time, I phoned again and only got voice mail.  He would not answer or return calls.
I called another reputable mower repair shop who serviced the  riding mower.  It was returned back to me for $203 worth of repairs including a new solenoid, filters, cartridges, hoses, gaskets, etc.  It was hardly in "tip top" shape, nor was the push mower.
I had to change the oil in the push mower as it looked like black molasses.  It clearly had not been tuned up as he claimed.
The reputable mower service told me a new seat for this particular Toro is $128.  He charged me $35 and provided nothing and would not return the $35.
I would caution anyone in the market for mower repair or a used mower not to do business with "Mr Buscuit" aka John Christopher Tomlin.   I do not think he is an honest businessman based on my experience with him.
