They are consistently very good. Our usual is Dr. Ingrid (who is now one of the owners), but have had good experiences with other doctors too. I highly recommend Riser! They even have a groomer.

Riser was veyr professional and caring. We needed a local vet and needed to get our dog checked over after collecting from the shelter. The doctor was friendly and happy to answer all our newbie questions.
Prices for the services were in line with other vets (possibly even a bit cheaper) .
The staff was very helpful and caring - glad they're our vet

Riser could not have been better! It's not that price was our only motivation, but when our former vet wanted to charge and quot;at leastand quot; (in their words) $1200, we thought we should look for a second opinion.
After setting foot in Riser, we could tell right away that it would be a good experience. The waiting room and exam rooms didn't have that and quot;dirty animaland quot; smell, the staff was professional and quick to take our information and it honestly seemed that our dog was more at ease here than his former vet.
Further, once we met the vet, Dr. Sutkay, and saw how he got right down on the floor with our dog and made friends with him while doing the exam, we knew we found our new vet. Then, on top of all that, they were so much more reasonably priced - we were blown away!
I almost regret writing this review because I don't want the vet to get too busy. But every pet owner deserves to have this type of experience at their pet care provider.

Generally it went well, because they are polite, they get you an appointment in a timely manner, the staff is responsive by phone, willing to fax you records and such, and at least a couple of the doctors are good at phone follow-up after sick visits. Their prices are not terrible, but same as other places we've been in the area. We don't find all the veterinarians there to be informative and very helpful, plus they asked us to come back for follow up visits a couple times, didn't lay hands on the dog or weigh or anything besides briefly verifying the condition was better, and charged full visit price. But overall they are good. We are very grateful that early on a Monday morning after watching our dog decline at home they didn't refuse me an urgent visit, got me in, put down my dog, gave me some alone time with him during and after... they handled that well and we appreciated it.

My dog had a type of cancer in the nasal cavity and when it came time to put the dog down I called the Vet. They injected something to kill him but he gave him a first injection of a tranquilizer. I am not like most people and I get more attached to animals then most. Most people would have given up but it took about fifteen minutes for the dog to settle the dog down. Some Doctors are very clinical and it can be just a scientific thing but they treated my dog with care. They could have done Chemo but that would have made him suffer and made him miserable.

It is not possible to say enough WONDERFUL things about Riser Animal Hospital. If you live even close to Skokie you absolutely need to take your pets to Riser. I began my relationship with them after adopting a 3 month old puppy. I had gone to another Skokie vet and was very, very displeased with my experience. Another friend had recommend Riser and it was love at first visit. Due to the fact my puppy had just been adopted and seen another vet he was all up to date on shots and was already neutured. However, Riser took time to review all the paperwork with me to make sure I understood the pups medical care and to establish a relationship with Mr. Puppy and me. In the year I have had my pup Riser has notified me about vaccinations that were near expiration so I could update them. They have always been avaliable to talk about first time puppy parent concerns. Their recptionists are outstanding. They go far above and beyond just answering phones. They are always avaliable to give advice and recommendations, but suggest speaking to the vets when they feel things are beyond their own experiences as pet owners. Risers entire staff is fantastic. When my pup was sick on my primary vets day off, I needed to see another doctor. The other doctor was equally compastionate and thorough in her evaluation and treatment. I did not feel at all uncomfortable seeing someone else, and when my primary vet returned, he was well informed about the treatment provided. Communication is excellent at Riser. With my puppys illness and my cats (seperate occassions), Riser was able to get me an appointment the same day. Riser also treated my cat until the end of his life. My cat was about 17 years old when we began going to Riser (he had been at another vet in the past, but required little medical care most of his life so honestly I barely took him to a vet. However, he was becoming ill around the time I began taking my pup to Riser so the timing worked out well). Riser went ABOVE AND BEYOND in treating my cat. They were always sensitive and conscious asking about my budget, but came up with several treatments that truly extended my cats life by many months. The vet taught me how to give injections despite the fact I was absolutely terrified. He practiced with me (not on the cat) many times, taking as long as it took until I was comfortable so that I could treat my cat at home---again, extending his life comfortably. When the inevitable time came to put my cat to sleep----one of the most devestating moments of my life---Riser could not have been more compassionate. I had talked with my vet weeks before about "should this day come" and how we would decide it was time. I felt empowered for the decision to be mine. The vet allowed me to sit with my cat for almost an hour in an exam room during business hours to say my final goodbyes and brought me extra kleenex. He allowed me to hold my baby in my arms as he gently and peacefully euthenized him. It was incredibly professional, peaceful, and respectful. For such an incredibly horrible moment in time, Riser truly made me feel supported. They also allowed me to leave the office without demanding I pay at that time, which I also thought was incredibly respectful. Riser also works with a fantastic cremation and burial company and was able to show me a wide variety of urns and memorials to choose from to honor my beloved cat. When I think of Riser I think of their laid back attitude to pet parenting (the hey we've all had someone pee on our rug before no big thing), compassion, dignity, quality care, flexibility, and accomodating. Truly, they are fantastic in every way and I would never even consider taking any of my pets anywhere else.

They are very good and I don't have a problem with them. They listen and they are prompt with their appointments. All in all they are pretty good vets. The staff is good. I would recommend them. The head doctor has greyhounds and he does that breed of dog very well. I will continue to see them.

I brought my cat in because he was acting strange. They were able to see me right away and ran some tests. They kept me notified of everything and scheduled an ultrasound referral for me. Unfortunately my cat had a terminal condition.

I am surprised to see good reviews. My experiences with Riser were terrible. I find their front office staff to be cold and rude and they mis-diagnosed and mis-treated my dog twice on what I believe were fairly routine issues. The first was ear mites. This should have been simple to diagnose yet they missed them twice, causing my dog discomfort and costing me more money. Another vet at another animal hospital correctly diagnosed the problem and treated my dog. Thus I paid three times to solve a very common problem. The second was a spot of mange that my dog had above his eye. They treated it as an infection, put him on medication for the infection and put him in an E-collar. After days of seeing no change, I took him back and TOLD them to give my dog Revolution as I thought it was mange. (One of my more experienced dog friends suspected mange). They did give him Revolution and the problem was cured.
Response from RISER ANIMAL HOSPITAL
"THIS PERSON COMMENTS 3 1/2 YRS AFTER THE PET WAS TREATED AT OUR CLINIC. MEMORIES MAY CHANGE, BUT THE RECORDS SHOW THAT THE PET HAD THREE SKIN SCRAPINGS NEGATIVE FOR MANGE, BUT WAS TREATED WITH REVOLUTION TWICE FOR MANAGE JUST BASED ON CLINICAL SIGNS. ALSO AN EAR PREP WAS NEGATIVE FOR EAR MITES AND THE REVOLUTION TREATMENTS WOULD HAVE ELIMINATED ANY EAR MITES THAT WERE PRESENT. SO I QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF HER STATEMENT ABOUT BEING DIAGNOSED WITH EAR MITES. WE WORK HARD TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR CLIENTS AND PATIENTS. AND I TAKE COMMENTS FROM OUR CLIENTS SERIOUSLY, BUT TO START TO BE NEGATIVE ABOUT EVERYTHING 3 1/2 YRS AFTER THE FACT, MAKES ME QUESTION THE ACCURACY AND MOTIVATION OF STATEMENTS. A PHONE CALL TO ME 3 1/2 YRS AGO WOULD HAVE DONE A LOT TO AVOID AN UNHAPPY ENDING TO WHAT HAD BEEN A SATISFACTORY RELATIONSHIP FOR MANY YEARS. READ THE OTHER REPORTS AND SEE WHAT OUR CLIENTS FEEL ABOUT OUR CARE. EMIL E. BAUKERT, DVM"

When I called I was told that the vet, Dr. Baukert, would call me back after lunch. Dr. Baukert did call me back, he answered all my questions and I made an appointment. The procedure went well. Since my dog was given a general anesthesia, I decided to have his teeth scaled and cleaned. When I picked up my dog, Dr. Bucket sat down with me and went over the xrays. He also gave me some suggestions for keeping my dogs teeth clean. I was very pleased with every aspect of my office visit. I will be using Riser Animal Hospital for all my future vet needs.
