We are very pleased with our new cushions. They missed their first estimate of how long it would take, but we thought their original estimate was pretty aggressive, and had anticipated that it would slip. We received the cushions about a week later, which is what we had expected. Cushions appear well-made, and are a vast improvement!

This company excels at both customer service and quality of workmanship. Julie was responsive and patient, as well as helpful with fabric choices with a complicated issue. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

The dining room chairs look great and are more comfortable. The restuffed cushions are much firmer and better to sit on.

I brought the chairs to the shop and the woman who helped me was right upfront with the fact that the price to recover and replace the foam would be $175 plus fabric cost per chair. Although I knew that I could probably find new replacement chairs that were similar for less money, I didn't want to throw away chairs that I liked that were otherwise in good shape. So I decided to go ahead and look for a fabric that matched. The woman was very helpful and patient in looking through many fabric sample books to find a fabric that was a close match to the original fabric. Since we are no longer using all six chairs of the set together, the fabric match did not have to be perfect, but I did want it to be as close as possible. When I finally found a fabric that seemed similar, it turned out to be super expensive, like $70/yard! That would make push the total cost to more than I was willing to pay. So we went back to looking through even more fabric samples and actually found another fabric that was a better match for $40/yard which was discounted by 20% for the reupholstering job. We must have spent at least a half hour just looking through fabric samples, and through it all she was really professional. She had a good eye for color and pattern to quickly sort through for possible matches, but she let me decide whether the fabrics were what *I* wanted. She also never rushed me as we looked through dozens of books and hundreds of fabric samples. In one case, when I thought I saw a fabric that was close in color, she pointed out that the fabric had more of a velour finish which was different from the original fabric. Her familiarity with different fabrics enabled her to point out subtle differences to me. For the fabric that I finally chose, the total cost was $229 per chair including 10.25% sales tax. After all the time we spent finding the fabric, when she calculated the total, she still presented the cost as a choice in case I still felt that the cost was more than I wanted to pay---no pressure at all. I decided that I did want to have the work done, so I paid a 50% deposit. She said that the work would probably take 2-3 weeks, but since I dropped off the chairs on December 8, I expected that there could be delays due to the holidays. When I didn't hear back a month later, I called and found out that the chairs had been ready, but they had neglected to call me back to let me know. When I went to pick them up, it was raining, so they put big plastic bags over the chairs to protect them and a couple of staff brought the chairs out to my minivan and put them in. The upholstery work is great. The chairs look better than before with a higher grade foam and fabric than they had originally. It wasn't cheap, but I think the cost is fair for the high quality skilled labor. I am also glad that I could support a nice local family-run business. The business has been owned by the current family for 20 years and was established 20 years before that.

Office manager was accommodating from beginning to end. I was given swatches of fabric to take home to help finalize my selection. There was no problem in having the job take about six weeks since the chairs had been sitting in my basement for twenty years. They called when the seats and backs were ready and had offered to put the chairs back together if I brought them in. I was glad I did since one of the screws had been stripped and it took some extra work. The finished chairs looked like new. The craftsmanship was impeccable.

They were phenomenal. Julie was very helpful, very lovely to work with, and everything went smoothly and well. We are thrilled with the results of their work, and are having more work done by them. They have an extensive choice of fabrics, Julie steered us in the right direction when it came to fabric usability/wear and tear, and the entire experience was positive.  I recommend them very highly.

The work was done on time and at the estimated price. The chairs are over 50 years old and look like new. Julie was very nice to deal with.

Mike & Son's were very responsive in proposing the best options for my repair.  They quickly provided a quote and then completed the work within a fast, reasonable schedule. Other vendors said they were 'really busy' and may be able to schedule the work within a couple months but Julie got the work done within a couple weeks.  They were great at communicating costs & schedules and the final outcome was better than expected.  We're looking around the house for the next furniture that Mike & Son's can update for us!

They delivered the couch this morning. It is more beautiful than it was before! It ,oops brand new. I am so excited. It was worth the wait time and worth every penny! Considering the size of the couch- I feel that the pricing is very fair. I have a couple of more upholstery projects coming up and I will be calling Mike and Sons to do the work.

They did a super job.  The girl that works there helped us find the fabric that just went perfectly with everything else in our home.  She did a great job choosing the fabric.  You could not ask for better craftsmanship on these chairs.

Estimator arrived and promptly discovered the issue and thoroughly explained the remedy. The sofa was repaired in 90 minutes. Mike & Sons offers very fair, transparent pricing, and quality work. I won't hesitate to use or recommend their services again.

Fantastic! Can't endorse Julie and family positively enough. They are kind, thoughtful, responsive, and professional. They take tremendous pride in their workmanship. And it shows. We would absolutely have them involved with any future upholstery project we undertake.

OK, so I am writing this review about a year after I actually had Mike and Sons make a new slipcover for our big armchair.  The old one had totally worn out, and the one that they made is a lot better than the original.  I had no problems at all with them, and everything about the service they provided went smoothly.  They let me order my own fabric from another supplier without any hassle.  
I guess it's one thing to do a job that a customer is happy with right after the thing is delivered.  It's another to do such a great job on it that I'm just as happy nearly a year later.  The chair looks great, and I'd use these guys again in a heartbeat. 
So, my advice to you is to get busy calling them to do your upholstery job.  The only drawback is that they are so great that they're really busy, so you should get your project into the line as soon as you can.

Great service! Dealing with custom upholstery can be a very painful experience, but working with Julie was great. We communicated throughout the whole process and the products look great. Will definitely use again for all my upholstery needs!

In our quest to support local businesses in Skokie, IL, we stopped in at Mike and Sons to see if they would be able to help us with our reupholstery request. We have an eight foot stationary wet bar in our lower level family room that was in need of new upholstery after our renovations. We wanted to maintain the same design which is a slightly retro look. We had taken photos when we realized it might suffer some destruction during construction since we had new updated countertops installed.
Julia came to our home to view the prospective project and assured us they (her family operated business) were up for the task.
Measurments were made, fabric chosen and we were ready to go in a short period of time.
Jose worked tirelessly to recreate this work of craftmanship. He would measure and cut, piece together, return to the shop to machine sew and come back to assemble. We were not sure if this type of "on site" job had been done before, but are so pleased with the outcome. Julia came to our home on the service date prior to the start of the project to insure everything would flow smoothly.
Jose returned to add some finishing touches. Our "new" bar is a showpiece in the room and we are so grateful to Julia, Jose and their family business, Mike and Sons. We will definitely be utilizing their services in the future and making referrals to them as well.
