The car is under warranty.  They do things efficiently, they are personable and timely. They could listen to their customers more.

I tried going to another auto mechanic who charged me an arm and a leg and never fixed the problem. I took it back to Subaru dealer and they figured out the problem. They fixed it right away, so I learned my lesson. They are experts in what they do. They are not the least expensive, but in the long run you end up paying more for somebody that doesn't know the car.

They are highly trained. They do good service. You pay a little more, but it's definitely worth it.

They call me to tell me when it's time to come in. They put a sticker with the month and the mileage to come in also. It's fast. The only thing I don't like is they don't give you loaner or pick you up for appointments. I always have to find a ride. They have 1000 cars on the lot that they could let you rent.

After spending much time researching and shopping my husband and I decided to purchase a new 2016 Subaru Forester. We did a lot of online price comparisons and was given a price that we felt comfortable with by the internet sales consultant at Evanston Subaru. It was definitely on the low price range for that model according to Truecar.com.  Although my overall rating for the dealership is an F The initial car buying experience was very positive. They were the lowest price and went to the extra effort to locate the car we wanted in the color we preferred. The car arrived quickly and I went in with my money and went to take delivery of the car.
It went all down hill from there when I had to go into the office with the finance manager to close the purchase. First, he asked me the rate with which I financed the car with my credit union.  I told him and he did not try to offer me a better rate because the rate I had gotten was already very good. (no way to make extra money there).
So, I paid for the car and forms were filled out etc. Then the Finance manager began pitching the extended warranty and a maintenance contract. While I had never purchased a maintenance contract before I have usually bought the extended warranty when buying a new car. Each time it was definitely worth it as I ended up with repairs that cost more than the cost of this extra insurance, primarily because we keep our cars a long time.
So, I was very interested in doing the same again. We had a very long discussion about how many miles I would need and how long we expected to keep the car. Then he quoted me a price of approximately $2500 dollars for 6 years or 80,000 of extended warranty and then told me it was my lucky day because Subaru was having a special promotion where if you purchased a certain number of years of the warranty 3 years of maintenance was included for free. By the way, before he told me this he had asked if I had been aware of the current Subaru advertisements regarding promotions and I had said I had not.
I am trying to shorten the story but suffice it to say that Dave was very slick in the way he was presenting everything and exceedingly outgoing and friendly.  I agreed to the purchase of the contract and when he went to write up the paper work he gave me two forms to sign. One was for the extended warranty and the second was for the "free" maintenance contract.  Dave told me that he had to put the "cost" of the maintenance contract valued at approx. $500.00 on the second form because the State of Illinois does not allow that form to say the cost was "0"  If this is sounding weird it was, but by this time I just wanted to get out of there.  I told him that I wanted to put $1500 on my credit card and pay the rest with a check. I asked what I should write the check for. Dave said "$1484.00"  Notice that plus 1500 is a lot more than the quoted price of 2500.  Now I take responsibility for missing that overcharge but who expects someone to lie to you and tell you to pay 500.00 more than what we just agreed to.
Well, I finally took my car and left. I had a nagging feeling something wasn't right. For one thing the last time I bought a new car in 2009 my extended warranty was close to around $1200.00.  In addition, I would never have otherwise purchased a maintenance contract because I have a very good mechanic that I've used for more than 20 years. But free is free, right?
When I got home that evening I decided to do a little more internet research and see what people were saying about whether or not the Subaru extended warranty was worth the money. Everyone has different opinions about this but the thing that practically knocked me over was that all the price quotes were between 1100-1300 dollars!!!! I then called another dealership and asked what the cost of the extended warranty would be and they quoted me 1355.00 (this quote didn't include the FREE maintenance)
Well, I knew what happened right away. They gave me a very low purchase price on the car, were not able to make some extra money from a financing deal so the finance manager just decided to see just how much money he could make from the sale of the extended warranty.  If you include the extra approx. $500.00 he simply more than doubled the actual price of the warranty. We are talking about 1500 dollars over market value.
Needless to say I was furious. I immediately emailed both the salesman who helped me in person and the internet sales manager and the finance manager telling them I wanted my money back immediately for the service contract (not the car). I contacted my bank and placed a stop payment on my check and contacted my credit card company to inform them that I was having a dispute with a merchant.
I did not hear back and I wrote the dealership owners the next morning. To be fair I got an immediate response back. The owner said that I couldn't compare one dealership's plan to another's, which at least in the case of the Subaru company (not dealership) should not have been true. He also tried to give me some sort of nonsense about comparing apples to oranges.
There were a few more back and forth emails and a couple of phone calls with the owner. To his credit, at least he eventually admitted "mistakes were made" but said he couldn't understand how it had happened as Dave had worked for him for 20+ years. He also admitted that there was no such thing as a "free" maintenance contract. He was choking on the words but without using the word he as much as admitted to "fraud"  Of course, this was not dealership policy but a single employee run amok.   Then the owner said that he would "make it up to me"  by saying if I didn't reverse my $1500 credit card charge he would give me the same deal that I had originally paid $3000. for.  Well, I told him I would consider purchasing this from him for that price but that I had to think about it and in the meantime I wanted my credit card refunded  He finally left me alone and agreed to credit my account which took two days to process, although the original charge was processed in seconds.
Today, I drove 35 minutes to purchase the extended warranty from the dealership I called that first night to get the comparison quote.  The finance manager at this Subaru dealership actually ended up selling me a cheaper extended warranty because I didn't need the original number or miles based upon my driving habit. Oh, and the night I called the dealership I did not tell them where I had purchased car or been overcharged but he GUESSED CORRECTLY. Apparently, the practice was common at Evanston Subaru, not a one time thing but something that happened repeatedly.
DON'T BUY A CAR OR ANYTHING FROM EVANSTON SUBARU. THEY HAVE A CULTURE OF DISHONESTY. The only reason they did not get all "F's" from me is that the initial salesmen were straightforward and the actual purchase price of the car was very fair.

I brought my 2009 Forester in for a battery check (I had it replaced about 1 year ago and it died). They checked the battery and also did their "safety" check. When they called to tell me they would replace the battery they also told me I needed about $200 in fluids and told me I needed new rear brakes. I take good care of my car and had it serviced at a Subaru dealer in Madison WI (I moved to the area about 4 months ago). I also just had new brakes installed by the Subaru dealer in Madison in July and since have only put on about 1,500 miles. I told them I just had them replaced and the service person said he was thinking of someone else's car. I think he was just trying to up sell anything he could. My receipt still said I need new brakes. I talked to the Subaru dealer in Madison and he said that it's impossible I already need new brakes. I will not be going back to this dealer again. If you have service done be sure to question everything they propose doing to your car.

They did not charge me anything. I can call them up and they give me the earliest time to come in so I just wait for my car. They have a nice waiting room with a coffee machine and TV. I am going back next week for a regular maintenance.

An appointment was made on May 28, 2013 to perform service required by a Recall Notice. When I arrived, I was told that they could not do the work as they would have to inspect the vehicle and then order the required parts. This was contrary to what I was lead to believe when making the appointment. I understand the necessity for this now but it would have been helpful to know up front that my appointment in May was just to look at the vehicle (I had re-arranged my day as I asked when I made the initial service appointment how long the service would take and was informed that it could take 2 hours). At this visit on May 28 I was told that I would be called when the parts were received to re-schedule the work. I was informed that it would take a couple weeks to receive the parts. I never received a call from Evanston Subaru concerning the recall work again. On September 23rd , approximately four months after the May inspection, I called the service department and asked about the recall work and I was informed that they had no information on the recall work for my vehicle and that I should receive a call from their parts department. I decided not to wait again and I immediately called the Evanston Subaru parts department which informed me that they had the parts required in stock and that I should talk to the service department again to schedule an appointment.
So after waiting for four months for a call confirming the receipt of parts so that the recall work could be done, I then had to initiate 3 phone calls to Evanston Subaru to find out what was going on and facilitate communication between their own service department and parts department. The service personnel I have met in person have been helpful but I believe there is a huge mismanagement problem within the service department.

I had no major problems with Evanston Subaru, and I would consider buying from them again, if they could get what I wanted at an acceptable price. However, dealing with them was annoying in a number of small ways. A few examples:
The car I wanted was not in stock. After they located it and took my deposit, the salesman told be he would call by a specific time that day to tell me when it would available. He never called. I had to call several times over a couple of days before I got a delivery date.
When I arrived to get the car, they didn't seem ready for me, even though I had made an appointment. Doing the paperwork took a long time, most of it just waiting around.
After I had the car for a couple of weeks, I noticed that the antenna (which screws into the roof), was missing. At first I thought it had been stolen, but in fact it was in the wheel well with the spare. The dealer hadn't bothered to install it or tell me that it was there.
Overall, I found Evanston Subaru to be a sloppy operation. I don't plan to use them for service.

Their customer service department was impeccable. They were very good and they provided me with a car to use while my car was in the shop and I hadn't planned to leave it there. I was going in for an oil change and decided to do a tune-up, and they came back and said here are some things we would like to do and I said that sounds good. And they said I could take a car, so that was very nice.

I thought they were friendly until I had a problem. My car broke down and I wrote them a letter. They said if I had not written them a letter they would have helped me. I got it fixed for several hundred dollars somewhere else.

After much price shopping and test driving, we decided to purchase a Subaru Forester from Evanston Subaru in May 2012. I first made contact with the dealership via internet. Evan Paddor was our contact from the first interaction through the entire purchase process. He provided detailed information, straightforward answers, and an honest deal. It was the best car-buying experience I have ever had.
The dealership has proven responsive with every need since. All maintenance is done in an expeditious manner and with the highest quality. Our most recent visit was to have a hitch installed. When I called for the appointment, they checked to make sure the part was in stock, then scheduled the service. A loaner car was made available, and I was able to go to work even while the work was being done.
Quality service paired with trustworthy service teams and technicians make doing business with Evanston Subaru a pleasure. I highly recommend this dealership.

This is our third Subaru and Evanston Subaru in Skokie's service is very good. Even with the purchase, everything went very smoothly. They do a lot of follow-ups to check and make sure that everything is okay and we've just been really satisfied with them.

Went in for routine service and was told I needed a brake job. At the time, the car had about 26,000 miles and I was charged approx. 400 dollars. The repair job was fine, however I should not have been charged since the brakes were still covered under warranty. I found this out when I went with a family member to look at new vehicles at a different Subaru dealer and went on a test drive. During the test drive the salesman discussed warranty coverage including certain items that would be replaced free of charge if they needed to be. I then told him about my paying for a brake job when my car was less than 3 years old and had less than 36,000 miles. He said that I should not have paid for the brake job. I then contacted the Subaru headquarters in New Jersey regarding this situation and I sent them the documentation which included my proof of payment for the brake job. I was sent a full refund for what I paid for the brake job. Had I not gone to another Subaru dealer, I wouldn't have known that I was charged for warranty work. My other issues with the service department at this dealer is that they will keep your car all day without calling for an oil change, even I've made an appointment before hand. They don't even call and let you know when your car is ready, even when they say they will. While I like the sales staff at this dealer, I no longer have confidence in the service department and I won't take my car there any longer for service work. I feel if they charge you for things that are covered under warranty, then I will probably over charge you on other service and recommend service for repairs that aren't really needed. I feel they can't be trusted!
