 + -1 moreWhile it was more expensive than I was initially hoping, Lee explained the intricacy of the work involved, and the driving factor was the ridiculous prices charged by Onan (now Cummins) for the parts. He tells me that this engine will run great for at least two more decades, and I believe him. Of course, that does not mean that it will not need valve adjustments and other regular maintenance. It turns out there are very few small engine rebuilders around. Most people want to try to sell you a new engine or equipment. Good luck fitting an engine for a 40 year old garden tractor.
Description of Work: Disassembled my Onan engine for my Craftsman garden tractor. Bored cylinders replaced pistons with oversized pistons and new rings. Sent crankshaft for grinding, replaced parts to make rods fit crankshaft. Replaced valves. Rebuilt oil pump. Reassembled engine and made all adjustments. Had to bore the cylinder heads as well (so that larger pistons would not hit head -- old piston detent was smaller than new pistons). A true master craftsman.
