Early in 2011, I made the decision to upgrade the kitchen and bathroom of my 32 year old ranch home since most of the materials and fixtures were pretty much original equipment. I had a clear idea of what I wanted done and now had to find someone I could trust to do the work. After interviewing and rejecting a few general contractors, I came upon Advanced Construction Solutions right here on Angie's List. There were only a few reviews, but they were glowing and I now know why.
I think it was late March when I called ACS for a quote. I spoke with Tony and we met within a day or so. When he arrived at my home, I was immediately impressed by the fact that he was exactly on time (a characteristic that was displayed, more or less, throughout the entire remodeling). Our initial conversation went great. He told me that he and his partner, Rick, have been in business about 10 years (I think) and have extensive experience in both kitchen and bath remodeling. He assured me that if I contracted ACS to do the work, he and Rick would be the ones in my home as they do not sub-contract the work to others. Tony also assured me that once ACS began my work, they would not interrupt it by working on other jobs. I was very impressed with Tony's honesty and professionalism and was convinced that ACS was truly dedicated to doing a quality job. I decided at this point that we could work together. Tony recommended that I meet with his designer, Cathey, and about a week later, Tony, Rick, and Cathey came to my home.
I took everyone through the house and explained what my general ideas were for the kitchen and bath upgrades. While I sat with Cathey deciding on the material and style of the custom cabinets, Tony and Rick examined the work areas to take measurements and begin estimating labor costs. Before they all left, I agreed to pay Cathey a standard fee for a set of drawings (cabinet layout and tile designs) for both rooms. She said it would take about a week to provide them and Tony agreed to give me a detailed, written estimate for both jobs (one for the kitchen and one for the bath) when the drawings were complete. Again, I was very impressed with the level of professionalism. I received written quotes that were within my budget requirements and we signed our contracts on April 15. Now there was nothing to do but take a time out until the cabinets were fabricated which I was told would take 6 - 8 weeks. I used this time to do all the shopping for tile, appliances, bathroom fixtures, bathtub, toilet, sinks, etc.
The cabinets were ready and demolition began on June 22. Tony and Rick paid a great deal of attention to keeping the work areas as clean as possible during the entire process. I was living in the house during this entire project and they made every effort to minimize the inevitable disruptions. The work progressed on time and there were many times that I was able to make minor changes without any objections from Tony or Rick. They also made suggestions themselves on things they've experienced that I agreed would be improvements I had not thought of. None of these changes incurred any costs above the original quote. The materials that ACS provided were always of the highest quality that I am certain will last long after I leave.
All the work was completed on September 19, almost to the day of the estimated completion date. On time and only a little over budget (the latter was my fault for upgrading some materials and appliances - lots of marble in the bath and double wall ovens in the kitchen, for starters), but the finished product is amazing. Three months of in-home construction is not a pleasant thing but Advanced Construction Solutions working for me and with me every step of the way made the experience almost painless. I'm very happy with the results.
