I made the mistake of giving them 60% down for the job, per the contract. Way too much and out of line with usual practice. I didn't know any better but a good lesson was learned. My error.
A several week fight over the refund of the deposit followed, this could have been avoided if I had been more careful about how much to put down originally.
While trying to resolve the plumbing upcharge on the phone, the estimator said he gave me a low quote because we were friends with a previous client. A low quote to get the job doesn't do me any good when the cost balloons on day one. That was not confidence inspiring. Remember, this was day one.
We parted ways less than amicably, I found a plumber to do the job at the original quote and passed the city inspection with no problems.
I would not recommend Royal to anybody.
"Royal Builders has been in business since 1989. Our estimator has been doing our bidding since 2000. We have not experienced this problem before with any of our other customers. This customer was refunded all of his money except the amount for the work and labor that had been completed. We have a great reputation and take pride in our work. Royal Builders has a large repeat customer base. Many of our customers have completed 2, 3 and even 4 projects with our company. This is the only job not brought to completion in the 24 years we have been in business."
