Contacted Midwest Roofers due to the reports posted on Angie?s list. Steve Case came out to the house with roof samples. He was prompt and professional and talked with us about our desire to have the flat roof installed with reflective type material to reduce heat build up in the room addition under that roof. After some research and price shopping with selected Midwest and the roof was scheduled and installed the following week. The roofers began work about 7:30-8 am and completed all 3 roofs within the same day finishing the flat roof at 7:30 pm that same evening. PROBLEMS: A few surprises came up during the installation and problems were subsequently discovered once the installation was complete. 1) Our flat roof had 3 additional layers that required removal and an increase to the original quote by $1800. As the roof removal was already started we had no real choice in the matter and had to proceed with the process. 2) Once the roofing crew left we observed that the termination bar on the flat roof where the entire membrane is secured was only secured by every other screw with gaps in the bar and missing screws present. It was obvious due to the lateness of the day that the crew took this short cut because they were hurrying to complete the flat roof before they lost the light. We called Steve on the issue and he wanted to see it for himself and would be out the next day to see it. However, while we were to meet him at 4:30 he had a crew come out in the afternoon and place screws in all of the missing holes so by the time we got home and Steve arrived the issue was no longer obvious. Luckily, we had taken pictures the night before. 3) They state on their website and in their paperwork provided that they have a quality control person on site for each job ? not true ? had this been true I would suspect that the missing screws would have been caught. No one but the crew was present at the close of the job and we even went out to find that the crew had left. 4) As a part of the contract and of special concern to us due to the age of the original roof, we wanted Midwest to remove any rotted boards off the roof decks and replace. During the course of the garage installation my partner did have to request the crew to fix boards as they were going to roof over obviously rotted sections. Even now there are pieces of roof deck in the garage that are obviously bad but not replaced. 5) Fast forward 1 year; in the process of renovating the interior of the flat roofed room addition, the under side of the flat roof was exposed to show 12 separate sections of MISSING parts of roof boards. The flat roof membrane is laying exposed or roofed over these missing sections of plywood. The missing sections range in size from 4 inches in length to over 12 inches. As the interior ceiling was being taken out some pieces of the plywood lay hanging from the roof obviously rotted and broken. We were both shocked that Midwest Roofers would simply roof right over these missing and broken sections of plywood without stopping to replace the board for a more solid installation, per stated in their contract. We called Steve again to report this major concern and even sent him pictures. Once Steve reviewed the pictures his response was that this wasn?t a problem at all and asked if we?re getting water. He said that we should call him if/when we get water and THEN he would come out. We were expecting Steve to offer to come out to see the roof in its condition, due to our concern that we are spending money to renovate the room and want to avoid potential water damage due to the missing sections. Our phone conversation became very heated as he stated that in his opinion, the wood did not need replacing. (I still can?t understand his statement when you?re looking at sections of roof that have NO WOOD) Never once in the phone conversation did Steve make any offer to FIX the issues. Due to his complete lack of concern, we asked for a refund of our money as we were very unhappy with the workmanship and we felt that his attitude toward the matter lacked any concern. Instead, during our conversation he repeatedly focused more on ?wait for the water damage to occur first?. Once we asked for our money back it was only then Steve volunteered to come out and look at it himself. We at that point declined because we felt having the same conversation in person was unproductive and we needed to proceed as quickly as possible with our backroom renovations. Steve followed up that evening with an email offering to replace the roof with the same materials free of charge and he?d replace any rotted or bad wood at our cost. He said he could have a new crew out to do the work. My response was that this was the type of offer we were initially seeking in our phone call but did not receive. I also do not feel that I should pay additional money toward the replacement of something that should have been done correctly in the first place. This coupled with his abrasive attitude, lack of concern at out problem, and the shotty original workmanship of his company leaves us not at all comfortable with his company touching the roof again and we would instead like our money back for the portion of the flat roof only; which, according to Steve was only $800. However, in his $800 offer, he failed to recognize the additional $1800 he charged us according to our final invoice for the 3 additional layers. His final response has been that the condensation we are seeing in the exposed roof is from exposing the under side of the roof to the warmer air of the house with no acknowledgement of the missing sections of wood. Although I am completely familiar with the laws of condensation this was of much lesser concern to me than the fact that my roof has 12 sections of missing wood with some as big as a foot long and all that exists between me and the outside is a thin layer of membrane that I have to HOPE does not puncture, p*****, stretch, pop, or tear until I have the money to have a respectable and honest contractor fix it. It?s a sad fact that roofers like this hope that when they put a roof on using short cuts, that the homeowners won?t see the short cuts afterward.

Once I placed a call, Mike was out to look at my roof and gave me a very detailed estimate of the work to be done. He answered every question that I had and was extremely knowledgeable. Every aspect of the tear off and installation of my new roof was done in a professional manner. The foreman on the job was very helpful in answering my questions also. The team of installers worked together as a team to finish my roof within the timeline quoted. I have never seen a company take such pride in their work as well as taking great care not to damage my property. Steve also came out to check that everything was done to my satisfaction. My roof looks wonderful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a roofing company and wants a quality job done along with great communication and customer service.

The salesman came as arranged and told us we had roof damage and that possibly our homeowners insurance might pay to replace damaged roof. The salesman from Midwest Roofers met with the representative of The Hartford and Hartford agreed damage was covered under our policy. The salesman took care of everything, showing us samples, arranging for installation and getting the permit. The installation was held up due to weather but they were finally able to get the roof done and did a wonderful job. A few days later, another crew showed up and completed our screemed porch. Workers were very friendly and extremely dedicated to this job. We had an extremely good experience with Midwest Roofers and will definitely use them again and will definitely recommend them.

Job went great all though I was concerned the crew would have a problem with the excessive heat we had the day of the tear off and new roof installation. The crew was very capable and knew what they were doing I could not be more pleased. They continued to clean up as the day progressed so we had no nails or garbage to deal with...GREAT JOB.... Description of Work: It was the hottest day of the year the crew arrives right on time tears off the old roof and installs the new roof. Perfect job and I'm hard to please. I would recommend Midwest Roofers to anyone. Mike from Midwest Roofing Supervisor stopped in mid day to check the job and was proffessional and courteous as was he's crew. The job was completed in 1 full day.

Steve Case and his crew are a class act. Steve was very prompt on setting up an appointment and keeping to the time. He provided samples and houses with that type of roof so we could see what that roof look like. As Steve said you have one shot at picking a color for your roof and you want to make the best choice. My roof was done in one day and the crew performed their services professionally and on time. My gutters were installed the next day by once again skilled craftsman. I was very pleased that I chose Midwest Roofers in performing the work. I would highly recommend Midwest Roofers to anyone in need of roof repairs or any other type of work needed around the house

The roofs in both the garage and sun room developed major leaks after minor repairs by the previous homeowners failed. Midwest Roofers conducted a thorough inspection of the property and supplied a detailed estimate. Steve Case patiently answered all our questions regarding materials to be used (I asked a lot of questions because 1) I'm a journalist and that's what I do, and 2) I wanted to understand why their estimate was significantly higher than another estimate we obtained). The crew arrived according to schedule and completed the work within three days as promised. The work was neat and effective (i.e., no more leaks!). They cleaned the site thoroughly afterward. The crew exceeded our expectations by moving large items in the garage that we couldn't move.
Description of Work: Midwest Roofers installed microlams to every other ceiling joist in our 2.5-car garage (total of 11 microlams) to shore up cracked joists and alleviate sagging in the ceiling/roof; the original ceiling joists spanned more than 24 feet, so they did not meet current code. Midwest Roofers also removed the existing roof on the garage and attached sun room plus shinges on the valley of the main roof; made necessary repairs; installed black membrane roofing material (EPDM) on the garage and sun room (both have flat roofs), plus ice and water shields in the existing valleys, plus new shingles in areas where shingles were removed. Finally, they removed all debris from the property.

Storm chasers were making their way around my neighborhood checking out houses that may have had roofing damage. They stopped by and assessed the roof and claimed we had damage. I called my insurance company to send someone out to assess the damage if their was any and sure enough there was. I had asked the insurance company for a recommendation and they referred me to Midwest Roofers. Steve was very prompt about setting up an appointment and was very prompt in keeping to the time. He went over the adjusters measurements and told us everything that was going to be replaced. The shingle samples he provided were great and I was able to pick a color to offset the brick on the house. My roof was completed in one day and the crew was superb. My gutters were installed the next day by once again very professional and highly skilled workers. I couldn't have been more pleased with the job.
Description of Work: I was lucky enough to get Midwest Roofers as a recommendation. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to deal with Steve Case. His crew was on the mark with everything and clean-up was also done on any debris that hit my neighbors as well. He would leave the decision making to us but would give us his input when asked. It is truly hard these days to find an honest contractor but we hit pay dirt with him and his company. This roofing job will lead to other jobs I need done and it's because of his honesty, integrity and quality of service and materials he's provided.

Midwest Roofer personnel performed their services professionally and on time. Additionally they made certain that the yard and home was maintained neatly, despite bad weather days. They were courteous and responsive to our needs and questions throught the process. The fact that Mr. Case took the time to negotiate the damages with our adjuster and keep us informed of the sourcing of selected materials was huge to my wife and I. He turned a bad storm with costly damages into a pleasant experience. I solidly recommend their services to anyone trying to maintain a quality home.
Description of Work: Mr. Case provided the emergency closure of the roof following severe weather which brought down two large trees on our home. His diligence and perserverance with the insurance adjuster allowed us to replace and upgrade the roofing materials including replacement of the copper valleys. Additionally he acted as the general contractor to ensure that all of the sub-contractors (stone masons & gutter specialists) met or exceeded our expectations and timelines. Midwest Roofers employees worked tirelessly during some difficult weather conditions to make sure that our home was protected at all times. The finished work has provided us with a beautiful roof, new chimney and gutter system-much better than before the storm.

They were wonderful to work with. They very much kept me in the decision-making process and they definitely kept me informed. They were timely and personable. They cleaned up after themselves very well. I was very pleased in just about every way. The manager, Mike, was terrific. He's just a special guy. The owner of Midwest Roofing also owns two other companies, and we're talking to him about re-doing the exterior of our home and windows. It was a pretty big job, and I thought the price was very fair.

Steve has done a few roofs for me in the past but there had not much construction going the past year. When I contacted Steve I was glad to see he had survived the great recession in the construction industry. I contacted Steve and left a message. My phone call was returned in about 20 minutes and had a meeting scheduled the next day. Steve measured my roof and had a written quote on my e-mail the following day. We had gotten two price quotes and Steve was in the middle but real close to the cheaper number. The work was scheduled the following week and was completed in two days. The site ws kept clean and the work was professional.

I'm a condominium owner. Approximately 2 years ago, I notified my association property management of water coming into my condo unit. They submitted numerous work orders to contractors over the two year course to identify and fix the water leak. The leak was never fixed. I was always kept out of the loop and never updated on status until after a heavy rain fall I had to call and report water still coming into my unit. In November 2009 my condo association contacted MidWest Roofers to survey the leak. They were extremely professional and took fast action to identify the source of the leak. Once it was identified they kept the communication with me clear, open, and honest. In approximately two months (would have been a lot shorter of a time period if an association board was not involved delaying work pending board approval of funding) they completed the repair of the roof and gutter system. I'm happy to report a completely dry condo unit after last weeks temperature rise melted all the remaining snow on the roof. I'm very happy to put this two year nightmare behind me and can not thank MidWest Roofers enough for their expertise in addressing the water leak. I only wish they were the first contractor contacted when the leak was first identified two years ago. This would have saved my unit and the units below me from extensive repair needed to now repair the drywall and sub-flooring as a result of the two year water damage. THANK YOU MidWest Roofers!!! in the future I will always consider you guys as my first mode of contact when future home problems/issues arise.
Description of Work: MidWest Roofers identified and repaired a leak in my Condominium's mansard roof. They also replaced the gutter system to prevent the leak from reoccurring.

I needed to have our roof replaced and wanted it done quickly. Years ago I was a contractor myself, but got out of the business long ago and no longer have any personal contacts. After learning from a friend how pleased they were with the service received by Midwest Roofers, I gave them a call. They promptly came to our home and evaluated the project and gave us a bid. They explained the process and showed us material samples and color choices. Little did they know I used to be a contractor... I did not tell them of my experience because I wanted to see what they had to say, and make sure they were being honest about everything. They proved themselves to be very honest and provided a clear explanation of the roof replacement process. They explained the warranty on the shingles and offered us top quality materials as part of their bid... so I didn't have to worry about having substandard materials used on my home. I was impressed with their knowledge and they were the only contractor that understood the importance of proper attic ventilation and how to determine proper airflow. I had obtained several bids for the project and theirs was very competitive. I asked many questions I'm sure they do not get from most homeowners (because of my construction experience), and they convinced me I would get the quality materials and workmanship I desired. I hired them immediately and scheduled the project. The materials were delivered a couple days later and the crew showed up the following morning right on time. They worked efficiently and and were very courteous. I went on the roof to inspect the quality of the installation and found everything to be as perfect as if I had done the work myself. They performed a very thorough cleanup of our yard and everything looks great. Other than having a new roof, we would never know they had been to our home. I always have very high expectations when I'm paying for a service, but usually wind up feeling disapointed in most companies. Midwest Roofers did not let me down; they did everything that was promised, provided a quality installation of my new roof, and exceeded my high expectations. I would certainly recomend Midwest Roofers to anyone in need of a roof, and I would call them again for any of the other services they offer the next time I need a contractor.

Called Midwest Roofers about a roof leak by my chimney. They made a appointment for the next day. They were prompt, professional and courteous. They gave me a reasonable quote and told me they could start the next day because of the threat of rain in the forecast in the coming days They arrived first thing in the morning, corrected the problem, thoroughly cleaned up the debris and stated the leak had been identified and repaired. For once the weather service was correct and there were no leaks. Since the repair it has rained and snowed and the leak has been fixed. I can't say enough good things about Midwest Roofers, I would most certainly recommend this company for any roofing needs.

I found them very easly to work with, they understood what I wanted to accomplish and they were very efficient and timely on their quotes. They perfromed their work as scheduled and completed it on a very timely basis. My only issue was communication, which was not all attributable to them. My spouse contradicted some of the request I made not knowing I had talked to them earlier. When work was completed I wanted a few things changed and they responded within four days to complete all the minor items on my checklist. The work area was cleaned and they were very receptive to working with my schedule to meet and discuss the project, after work or early in the morning. I would suggest you discuss and reviewing in detail what materials you want them to use before they start their work. I was unhappy with one of the product choices they made, but then I didn't review this one material before they used it like I did with all the other materials, so again I was partly responsible.
Description of Work: They completely reroofed my house and resided my entire house due to hail and wind damage from a summer storm. I also have them preform some outside carpentry such as installing a screen door and replacing bad wood corners and window trim.

There was some leaking around the chimney. Some of the wood had to be replaced. The experience was terrible. I only went with them because they had a good rating on Angie?s List. They did not show up when they were supposed to the first time when they came to give the estimate. Then I had to call the owner. He finally came out and he brought down the price. I inspected the work when they were doing it. They did not expect the client to climb up on the roof. There was a whole section of rotted wood under the shingles that they were just going to leave. I told them that they had to fix that too. The flashing was wrong. It was a bad experience. I had to follow up with them, check the work and direct them to fix the problem. It went great but I would never use them again and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Response from Preferred Roofing & Exteriors
Very conflicting report. Homeowner mentions it went great but was a bad experience.. Not really sure how it can be both. Fortunately for the homeowner we installed the flashing correctly and not the way he wanted or else he would still have water leaking in his house. Punctuality is very important to Midwest which is why we give 2 hour windows to be on site and we were within the window. We encourage ALL customers to walk the roof with us so again this is a misleading statement. The homeowner expressed concerns and we explained to him because plywood is brown does not mean it is rotted, such as the case here but always trying to make everyone happy we replaced a section of plywood and then reduced his price. We strive for perfection and based on being on the Angie's honor roll and number of A reports we feel we did all we could for this homeowner. We wish him the best and will continue to service all work regardless of the report.

Midwest started with an excellant presentation and estimate. It included some things I never thought of and also offered options. The crew showed up at the day and hour that was promised. Flower pots etc. were moved away from the house and care was taken not to harm any bushes and the like. A dumpster was placed where we agreed for the old shingles. I had to leave for awhile, and when I came home the whole thing was done. Nothing of mine was damaged and the whole area was spotless. The dumpster was picked up later at the time designated. I had not had my roof replaced for 30 years and was dreading the whole project. This company did an outstanding job. After seeing their work and talking to me, my neighbor hired Midwest to do her house and garage, and she too was very happy with the job........
Description of Work: Midwest tore off existing shingles on house and replaced with new 3-tab shingles.

Fast and prompt estimating service. Scheduled the work within a week of contract acceptance. Arrived on the appointed day, although 1.5 hours late with no call. Estimator and job foreman are one and the same; a great idea I think. Mike Kanabay, my estimator and job foreman was very easy to work with and very responsive. I found an additional hole before they started work and notified Mike about it but they still missed it on the work day. Mike came back the next day after I called and they and repaired that hole as well. My only complaint (and this seems to be a problem with contractors in general) they left the gate open when they left. I have two big dogs, one of whom is at risk of biting. I didn't notice until the next day. They also dropped nails from the roof and I found an entire coil, point side up in the yard where my dogs have access.
Description of Work: Numerous repairs to the roof in several places to fix raccoon damage. Replace and reseal an inappropriate sink vent. Repair chronically leaking garage roof.

Cupola had leaked for 4-5 years. Midwest Roofers came in, removed the cupola, repaired the roof damage and reshingled the area in just a few hours. The only problem I had was the clean-up. They missed LOTS of nails (we found 70-80) and they had to come back and redo the magnetic rake to pick up any other missed nails/materials. Other than that, they were great. I will say that they responded VERY quickly and professionally when I complained and were back at my house for further cleanup within an hour. Great job!
Description of Work: Remove cupola from roof, repair roof and any water damage and reshingle cupola and repaired roof area

They were very nice. They went above and beyond to meet our desires, because we wanted to have a green roof done. They were able to research everything and work with us on all of the pricing so that we could afford the work. I plan to use them again in the future.
