I can't say enough good things about Steve Case and Preferred Roofing & Exteriors! We thought we needed some roof work and asked Steve to come out to give us an estimate. He was very thorough and extremely professional, not to mention a super nice guy. He provided the estimate, but also let us know we had a few more years with our existing roof! I have a great deal of respect for him and I'd contact him for any home work I had and would recommend him to anyone. Thanks, Preferred Roofing!!

I don't like asking, paying or trusting someone else to do work for me. I've had a few pretty disappointing experiences with "handman" types in the past -- hired to do work and just in gathering estimates for work. So when I found we need a new roof, I looked up the 5 top-rated roofers in my area, then narrowed down to 3 based on reading almost ALL their reviews. When I called Preferred they took my information and said they'd get back to me. Very soon after I got a call from Steve himself. Good first impression. Steve arrived a little early the day of the estimate and got up on the roof to inspect right away. Seemed pretty thorough. Back in his truck, he had a printed estimate fully detailing every step of the job as well as method of payment within a few minutes. Steve is extremely friendly, very professional, enthusiastic and very straight-forward. I got the impression that he valued my time as well -- he didn't try to over-sell, didn't pull any b.s. high-pressure sales, and didn't waste time trying to impress me or win me over. I consider that very respectful, especially for a guy who needs to sell his service to put food on the table. I told him we'd be getting a few quotes and he said he understood entirely, assuring me they may not be the cheapest price but would deliver the best quality & service. I'll spare you all the details of my other calls other than to say I did get one quote for cheaper and didn't get a third quote because one company didn't call me back(?!). Price isn't everything -- Steve's professionalism (and the MANY positive reviews on Angie's List) sold me on Preferred so I called him back to sign up for the work. November's probably busy for last-minute roofing jobs, but Steve said he could probably get it done a few days before Thanksgiving -- I got the quote on the 17th! It would've been nice, but I took too long to call him back and missed the window... The week after Thanksgiving the crew showed up first thing in the morning one day and by the time I got home from work I had a new roof. Awesome. I looked around & was very happy with what I saw. While I was out there, Steve came by to check on the job and to pickup the final payment and noticed I'd picked up a few nails in the yard. Now I didn't complain about this to him-- in fact, I just assumed I'd find a couple nails and/or some pieces of trash after a big job like that. I wasn't even going to show them to him and I told him it was no big deal, but he actually took a picture of the nails with his phone & sent it to his crew (right then and there) and promised me he'd have them come back out and clean up again -- which they did! Awesome. I've been up on a ladder to install Xmas lights -- no problems found. I've been up in the attic a few times -- no problems. Its now April -- we made it thru Winter and a few Spring storms already and I have absolutely no complaints at all! The roof has held up great, looks amazing still and Steve just called me the other day to follow up and make sure all is going well! Yeah, man. Its ALL good! I honestly couldn't recommend Preferred more highly!

Steve from Preferred Roofing & Exteriors came out to do an estimate within 2 days of calling them. He was the most well prepared contractor of the 6 I interviewed for the job. Steve came went on the roof measured, photographed used a infrared thermometer to show some problem areas, showed me samples talked about materials and how the job would progress and the time frame it would be completed in, filled out the estimate in short order and left me with a folder full of information. Steve and his crews professionalism continued throughout the whole job. Our new roof looks GREAT !!! We just had two days of rain and we are dry & warm. I would recommend them with the utmost confidence. Thanks Steve (Preferred Roofing & Exteriors) !!! Al, from Lombard Il.

We obtained three estimates, two from top AL contractors and one from a friend's reference. All three bids were incredibly similar in price and recommendation. All three contractors suggested that, as the home inspector had suggested, the roof was at the very end of its useful life. All three also suggested removing the power fan and either adding mushroom vents or replacing them with ridge vents. Preferred roofing accommodated our busy scheduled with a weekend estimate. The owner made the sales call and patiently answered my many questions in person and in follow up e-mails. I selected preferred over a contractor I had successfully used before because of their reputation and willingness to adjust the contract to make sure that all of the details were covered and clear. The work was started quickly, as soon as the weather cleared, after we'd signed the contract and it was done in a day. I worked from home that day and while it was incredibly noisy (it sounded like someone was hammering on the roof all day--go figure), I was able to observe that the crew worked very hard all day and new what they were doing. The new roof looks great and the worksite was cleaned up as well as could be expected. Very nice. Preferred was great even with follow ups after the job was completed. My only complaint is that the workers showed up a little earlier than planned and I had to open the door in my pajamas. Oh well.
Description of Work: Tore off a three-level split-level home roof (two layers) and a backyard shed and replaced with a high-quality architectural shingle. Removed and boarded over existing mushroom vents, a non-functioning power fan, and an extraneous interior vent. Installed ridge vents. Cut and placed three new vents and connected to bath fans, and installed a new a kitchen vent.

We had a great experience with Preferred Roofing & Exteriors. Steve came out to give me an estimate the same day I called, and got the job started the very next week. He stopped in personally the morning they started, and updated me shortly after to let me know they were going to need to replace more plywood than expected, and did a final check with me to walk around the job area and make sure I had no questions or concerns. Even though ours was a relatively small job for them, I felt valued and the service was excellent. The crew working on the roof was professional and polite, and did a great job cleaning up. I did not have nearly as nice an experience with a different company when we replaced the roof on our house a year and a half ago and the contrast was much appreciated! I will not hesitate to call him for anything else we may need in the future.

aSteve was very professional, quick to respond and excellent to communicate with. I am picky about getting good customer service, and the whole process was easy. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: We had a leak appear during a rain storm that caused paint bubbling on an internal wall of our home. I contacted 4 roofing companies and received estimates from 3. Steve's estimate was reasonable and his diagnosis of the problem seemed correct. After agreeing to the estimate, someone came out the next day to perform the repair, did a great job quickly and cleaned up after himself too. Overall great process!
A tree fell on the roof and caused a lot of damage - there was even a tree limb sicking through the upstairs closet ceiling! We removed the wood and tarped it up right away. The insurance adjuster came out on a Tuesday to estimate the repairs, I talked to Steve Case of PRxE on Wednesday and he came out on Thursday morning. Steve said he could complete the repairs for the amount of the insurance estimate and by the next day - Friday - it was all done. The new roof, gutters and vents look great! The crew was very professional and the clean up was excellent - not a single nail to be found. Not only was the roofing work done fast, and done right, but Steve noticed a drainage problem near the front door and he fixed that for us too - as a bonus!

After a 6-week drought, when it finally did rain, it rained right into my living room. I went on Angie's List searching for a roofing contractor. After reading several reviews, I called Preferred Roofing first. I had planned to get 3-4 estimates before signing a contract. Mike Creuziger promptly contacted me and came out to inspect my roof and give me an estimate. He took a video of the condition of the roof and explained his findings as I viewed the video. He gave me an estimate and told me exactly what to expect in terms of the materials that would be used and how the work would be done and supervised. After talking to him I felt so confident that he would make sure that everything he promised me would be delivered, I signed the contract and gave him a 50% down payment, without getting any other estimates. The only problem was that it would be about 3 weeks before they could do my roof. Mike had already put his ladder back on his vehicle, but he went back up on my roof and caulked several spots that he thought might be the source of my leak. It rained that night. Mike called the next morning to see if the caulking had stopped the leak. It didn't. He came back to my house within a half hour and went up into my hot attic (tight squeeze) on a 100 degree day. He then went up on my roof again and nailed two tarps in place, with 2x4s to keep them from blowing off. It rained again after that, but the tarps were secure and kept the rain out. Mike C. arrived promptly on the 8th of August and got the crew immediately engaged in tearing off the old shingles. They moved plants, patio furniture, and anything else that might be damaged away from the house, and put tarps down to catch the debris from the old roof. The crew worked from 7 a.m. until the job was done. I had to leave at 6:15 p.m. and they were still there. Mike had to leave earlier to do another estimate, so I had to find someone in the crew who could understand English to make sure they locked the gate to the backyard when they left. The next day Mike and the gutter crew arrived. Mike did an inspection of my driveway and yard and found several roofing nails that the roofing crew had overlooked. He was not happy. He made a phone call and told me that they (the roofers) would be back that day to go over the lawn and driveway with a magnet to search for stray nails. The gutter crew (different from the roofing crew) worked efficiently in a light rain and got the job done before the sky really opened up later that afternoon. A couple of guys from the roofing crew did come back late in the afternoon (in the rain) and did another sweep of my yard looking for nails. This was after the gutter crew and Mike had completed the job and left for the day. Again, the language barrier gave me some concern and I'm not entirely sure that the young man I spoke to understood that I wanted him to also check my neighbor's drive (which closely abuts my lawn) for nails. I have yet to take a look myself to see if they got them all, but I will. Added comment: While mowing the lawn a couple days later, two more roofing nails were found and a stainless steel hammer with a very long handle. The crew that was sent back to look for nails had missed these on their follow-up visit. Nails are small and it isn't out of the realm of possibility that one or two might be missed, even with the magnet sweeper that they use ----- but a huge HAMMER? How thorough could that 2nd sweep in the rain have been? I called and reported the finding of the hammer and the additional nails. I still have the hammer. Added note on the gutter crew: One of the guys noticed that the downspout on the garage had become separated from the gutter above it. The garage was not part of our deal. He asked if I minded if he reconnected that downspout. Are you kidding me! How many people today ask if they can do MORE than is expected?

We dealt with Steve for my roofing work done and he was everything that you would hope for in a contractor. He was responsive when contacted, was on time for his appointments, and handled the job very thoroughly. The price charged was better than I had hoped for and he provided pictures after the job was done. I would definitely call on Preferred again in the future.

We had wind damage from a storm. We contacted the insurance and waited. We contacted Steve Case and he came right out and walked us through the steps. He talked about the insurance questions we had. He handled all the details. They had to reside the whole house because our siding could not be matched. His team came and went in 2 days. Very efficient and all the debris was cleared away. The house looks brand new! They were a wonderful company to deal with and we're going to use them for other projects at our house.

First I have to say that I was very impressed with the representative that was sent to my home. Mike Creuziger is very knowledgable and personable. He has factory training in the products from the manufacture that played a part in the work I had done. Ex. I wanted a ridge vent installed and also thought I should replace a 24 year old attic fan. Mike explained that I should use only one type of exhaust system on the roof. He then explained the logic and means behind venting theories. While I was in the process of getting other estimates I did some independent research and found support (look at RAVC) for Mike's explanations. As a result, I had the ridge vent installed and had them remove the old vent fan and close up and roof over the opening. One less hole in the roof to worry about. He also looked over the insulation and suggested someone who would ensure I have enough venting at the soffits. That person cam out, confirmed all was ok, and didn't charge me for his time. I tried to pay him but he wouldn't take anything. The work was performed in two days as scheduled and clean up was great. Mike was accessible before and after the work and on scene during the work. Very pleased with the whole experience.

Mike came out to give an estimate to replace my roof. He went up on the roof and did a video, which was a nice touch. Of the several companies I had called for an estimate, he was the only one to actually calculate the quote on the spot, and then proceeded to give me a very detailed explanation of the work they would do and the product options. He inspired a lot of confidence. However, his price was the highest of all the quotes I received, and $1000 higher than the one I eventually chose. Otherwise, I would have gone with Preferred, as they were the most professional and thorough in the bidding process.

Moved into our house just over three years ago and were told at that time that we only had about five years left on the roof. Well, five years turned into three years and we used Angie's list to shop for a reputable company to replace it. At the top of the list was Preferred Roofing and Exteriors so we gave them a call and they did not disappoint. Rick the salesman was prompt in getting back to me and in coming out to give an estimate. I was also impressed by his professionalism and honesty as he turned away some business instead of being deceptive and taking the job. You see we also wanted an estimate for a barn roof which had been leaking badly but he immediately told us that we needed a sheet metal roof to replace the existing one as the pitch was too shallow to have a regular roof on it in the first place, and therefore should use a different company. As for the house he completed the estimate and got it back to us in quick fashion and set up the job after we provided the down payment. When the crew arrived they were also very polite and completed the job in just over a day and a half and left the yard spic and span. Though we will hopefully not need their services again I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of repair or replacement of a roof.

I found Preferred Roofing and two other highly rated roofing companies on Angie's List and decided to give them a call to obtain estimates for a roof tear off. Preferred responded immediately to my email on a Sunday afternoon and an appointment was made on the spot. Steve Case arrived at the appointed time and enthusiastically went about sizing up the amount of work needed and pointing out certain aspects of my roof that would need special attention. After receiving estimates from the other two companies, I was pleased to see that Preferred's estimate was in the ball park even considering this work. I also learned that Preferred Roofing was a "Preferred Contractor" with the shingle manufacturer. This fact makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the guarantee offered by the manufacturer - without this, the shingle and workmanship guarantee is 10 years; with this, the shingle and workmanship guarantee is 50 years. (Note to anyone needing a new roof - all shingle manufacturers have a "Preferred Contractor" program, so, never go with an installer who is not in this program!) It was, therefore, a no-brainer to go with Preferred, so, I signed the agreement and work was scheduled for the following week. Charlie Hershey and his crew arrived bright and early on the appointed morning and proceeded to get to work. Since it was going to be a 2 day job, I was pleased with the care that Charlie and his team took on ensuring that all openings were sufficiently covered before he left at the end of the 1st day. The work was expertly completed the following day and, as noted in other reviews, all of the debris was cleaned up and the "magnet on rollers" took care of all of the stray nails. (Another note - I was stunned at how many nails and bits of metal this device picked up and cannot imagine hiring an installer who doesn't have one. I'm certain that it saved me from some flat tires.) In summary, an excellent job at a very good price and I would highly recommend Preferred to anyone needing a new roof.

After a bad storm in our area this July, we experienced water leaking in our family room. We wanted to fix the source of the problem, not just the interior damage. After a not great experience with another roofer that was knocking on doors in the neighborhood, we did some research on Angie's List and called Steve at Preferred Roofing and Exteriors. He responded immediately and set up an appointment to assess the problem the same day. He explained exactly what needed to be done and why. We appreciated that he focused on the problem area and didn't suggest replacing the entire roof. He had a team at our house to make the repairs the next day. The price was reasonable and the work guaranteed. Steve also took it upon himself to fix our shutters which were loose from the same storm. That was truly appreciated since I didn't want my husband or myself up on the roof trying to fix the second story shutters.

Steve and his crew were wonderful to work with. Steve showed up exactly when he said he would, he explained everything to me - we discussed optional work that I wanted done (decided to do some of it and not other parts). The bid was absolutely competitive ( I had 3 bids done). The crew was terrific - the whole roof done in one day and you could not even find a nail on the ground after they left. I had a sky light put in the same time as the roof was done and that was done all the same day. I am very happy with the work - the whole experience of dealing with Steve and his company. I would hire them for any type of contracting work I had available.

It was sad that I wasted 7 weeks waiting on another contractor to do his job. I wish I would have worked with Steve right from the start. Steve is very knowledgeable about the "practices" of other contractors and follows up on what he promises. His crews did a good job removing the old roof and getting the new one installed. My roof is very steep so it took them 3 days to get the whole job done. This fell over a weekend so the crew did a good job tarping the roof on Sunday. They even stopped by to check everything while it was raining. The gutters were replaced over a weekend when we were out of town and quite honestly, I couldn't even tell a work crew was at the house that weekend. Everything was cleaned up perfectly. There were a couple issues when the metal guys finished the flashing and fascia, but Charlie got everything straightened out quickly and there was never an issue with it meeting my standards.
Description of Work: After the April hail storm our neighborhood was deluged with roofing contractors. After getting involved with a contractor that pushed me off for 7 weeks, I contacted Steve at Preferred Roofing. Steve came out to the house and we were back on track right away. The company removed the old roof, and installed new shingles, gutters, and fascia metal.

Sales call from Mike at Preferred Roofing was very professional. He explained the materials and process thoroughly. We had three quotes and preferred was the highest but also had the best workmanship warranty. Roof crew worked diligently and got the job complete in about a day and a half. Once work was completed they did a good job cleaning up. When the salesman returned after the work was done he answered my questions. He even attached a loose downspout that I had not gotten too. All in all a good experience.

Very positive overall experience. Steve came out and gave us the estimate. He took time explaining the process and everything involved. He was very upfront about what we needed and didn't need done. Upon our acceptance of the proposal, they had us scheduled in a very timely manner. Work was completed and the roof looks great! Skylights were to have blinds but they did not have them. They are coming back this week to complete the job and we have been very happy with everything.
