On the main roof, the bids ranged from 7,000.00 to 12,000.00. Steve's bid came in at 8,900.00 (the garage was extra 2,100.00). Steve was very responsive to questions and answered e-mails promptly. He came out three times prior to our accepting his bid, making a separate trip to meet one of the other condo owners. He was very punctual and gave me updates if he was going to be even a few minutes late (even though coming from St. Charles!). He's a very nice guy and knows his roofing cold. He was the only one who brought samples of shingles. He used a satellite technology to map the roof surface and a thermal sensor to detect the full extent of water damage (more than the eye can see!). None of the other bidders did either (we had three other bids). Steve's initial labor warranty was for seven years while a few of the others were for 10 years. He increased it to 10 years without changing the price when I told him that. He required no money up front. Of note, one additional roofer declined to bid saying the house was "too high". His crew arrived on time at 7 am and they had the whole job completed same day by 430 pm (both roofs). They were very tidy and there was little evidence that they had even been into my unit or on my private deck (from which they gained access to the roof). Steve stressed the need for safety for his team and had them "strapped in" for the project given the height of our building. The roof looks really good (I can look down on the garage work). Obviously with a roof, time is a key variable and the best you can get is "no leak". But I couldn't be happier with Steve and his team. Great job from start to finish! He made the whole process pain free and he guided us through it seamlessly. I wholeheartedly recommend Steve for any roof work.

We played a little phone tag, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Steve Case came in with the best quote of the roofers I interviewed. He did the job a few days later, in one day, and did the work beautifully.

Steve Case and Preferred were great to work with. He showed up for the first appointment on time, and spent several hours going over the property and telling us what we needed and didn't need. What impressed me the most was that the first thing he said upon originally seeing the roof was that we didn't need to replace it yet -- it could last another two years or so if we desired. I greatly appreciated the professionalism he showed by not trying to tell me my roof was in need of repair now. Upon his walk through of both the exterior and interior, Steve was also able to point out several non-roof-related issues that we needed to be aware of and keep an eye on. Less than a week after signing the contract, Steve called to set up a time in a few days to the get the job done. Three days later the crew showed up just after 7 a.m., began work, and within a day and a half a great looking roof had been completed. The topper was that Preferred did the entire job for a price that was reasonable and competitive.

The job could not have gone better. The crew showed up on time and began work immediately. The guys on the job were not only professional in their behavior, but seemed to take huge pride in what they were doing. I expected a huge mess, but at the end of the job, the entire crew worked for approx. an hour just cleaning up our site. I was hugely impressed and was even more happy when the invoice came in $400 under his estimate. Highly would recommend using this company.

Steve Case was great to work with and very responsive. He came out on a weekend to give us an estimate (he even went up in the attic to perform an inspection). He quickly adjusted the estimate based on some last minute changes. The work was done all in one day and the crew took extra care to make sure that no debris was left behind.

Had continual problems and repairs with existing roof and decided to get quotes to have roof replaced. Got quotes from several roofing companies rated highly and Angies List including Preferred Roofing and Exteriors. Steve Case met with me at my convenience on a weekend to provide a quote for a new roof and some minor repairs on some wood trim. Steve was punctual and professional and easy to work with. He provided me with a detailed written quote at the end of our meeting and responded promptly to several follow up questions I sent over the next week. Once I awarded the job to Preferred Roofing, Steve provided me with an accurate schedule of when work would be completed. The workers showed up on schedule and completed the work as expected. They were careful to protect windows, A/C units, and carefully cleaned up the area when they were done. I am extremely happy with my experience with Preferred Roofing and Exteriors.

Exceeded expectations from start to finish. Prompt, responsive and professional. Excellent communications. Performed detailed inspection before bid. Bid was timely. Competative bid price among three qualified Angie's List Contractors. Owner dropped off several shingle samples to aid shingle style and color selection. Work started when promised, with considerations for weather. About 16 qualified workers amazingly performed the work safely, with precision team work, in only one day. Care was used not to damage the house, landscaping and driveway. Clean-up was complete, including using a magnet to pick up nails. A rubber-tired dumpster was used to avoid damage to driveway. The foreman was attentive and responsive to all of my requests though out the day, as the work proceeded and as it finished. The crew was respectful and hard working. The owner checked up on work progress in person, and by phone. It's been several weeks since the work was done. The roof looks great and has performed well during the recent storms.

Steve came out to give an estimate and took the time to write up the estimate right then and there, plus go over his plan on what he suggested and why. My roof was about 17 years old and had two layers of shingles. I also had problems in my attic because it was discovered that it did not have proper air flow and the plywood got ruined. I felt that out of all the roofers that had come out Steve was the most attentive to detail and actually wanted to make sure that my roof was made right. He stayed and made sure we understood the estimate and we did not feel rushed or pressure in any way. None of the, this deal is only good today type of thing. The other roofers that had come really didn't take the same time and said they would email my estimate in a few days. Steve planned on it taking two days but was able to complete the entire job in one day. During the tear off they discovered that there were no holes cut in my soffits, even though my aluminum siding had pieces that were louvered to allow air flow into the attic. Steve's plan was since he had the roof open that he would make the proper holes in the soffits and add an attic fan to ensure that my attic is properly vented. Steve was professional, always took the time to ensure that my concerns or questions were taken care of whenever i called. He was punctual and never had to wait around for him. I would not hesitate to recommend Preferred Roofing to anyone knowing that he will treat them right.

Rick Cooper called me back within 24 hours of requesting a quote even though it was not a big job. Some other vendors did not respond since I indicated that the roof roof was only 8x12 feet in my email messages. Rick came out and inspected the roof and made some suggestions on how to eliminate any possible future problems with standing water on the flat roof. The original roof had been installed in-properly by the former owner of my home and had leaked when the winter snow melted off and again during the heavy flooding rain storm in April. His team removed the old roof, installed a new rubber roof, and enlarged the opening for water to flow off the roof. HIs approach was not to try to provide the most inexpensive option, but rather to provide the best long term solution so I don't have to worry about standing water or a clogged drain.

The job site manager came out promptly and had the job measured out quickly. The crew did a good job considering the amount of sheathing that had to be replaced. Another thing that made the job difficult was working on the alley. Cleanup was good. Already the product survived bad weather well.

Tim Conway and his team were extremely responsive to our needs. We had purchased an older home and the roof was leaking everywhere... We called him and within a week they were able to come out to repair and replace the damage (before the next major rain fall which made us happy). They arrived on-time and were able to finish the project in one day. They were clean, professional and accommodating. I would highly recommend this company and will be contacting them again for any future projects that I have going.

From start to finish, Steve and his team were professional, hard working and trust worthy. Steve was our second estimate on our roof. Not only did he come in a few thousand cheaper, but when we asked about the roof on our garage, Steve informed us that it didn't need to be replaced. This was a shock to us since the last estimate told us that we needed that replaced. Steve in general did not push us on anything that we did not need. He suggested clearing out the gutters instead of replacing them. In addition, he spent a lot of time checking out our crawl space to make sure we had no prior damage that he would have to deal with. The other guy estimating never entered the house or asked to see this space. Steve was thoughtful and conscientious (boots off at the door). The work was done in a very professional manner. The guys cleaned up well and put everything back in place. Our yard and bushes were actually cleaner after they finished than before they started. In addition to everything else, Steve spent some time talking through other projects we may do in the future. Our home is very old and there is a lot of work we want to do in the next 3-5 years and Steve talked through some planning and ideas. It was refreshing to have someone to bounce ideas off without pressuring you to sign a contract. We look forward to working with Steve and his crew in the future on other projects.

The job was very satisfactory and a major improvement over the original. The carpenters and masons were professional and very efficient. They showed up when promised, were very professional and left a clean job site. Steve Case is responsive and easy to work with.

Very happy with Steve Case and Preferred Roofing. If we still have a leak after the rain, he has guaranteed his work on the proposal and will come back out to fix it. However, I don't think we will have anymore water in our bedroom!

I have previously submitted a review for this provider based solely on the estimate process for my roof, simply because I felt that good about PRX before they even performed services. Now that I have my new roof and gutters installed, I wanted to submit another review because I am that pleased with the work and overall experience with PRX. I worked with Steve on the re-estimation of my roof from the estimate I had one year ago and throughout the entire process of the roof and gutter installation. Although I was not home when the roof was being installed, Steve continually updated me throughout the day on the progress and any issues that they found (11 sheets of plywood had been rotted through and required replacement). He also followed up with me after the entire job had been completed to ensure I was happy. The turnaround time from when he first came out to when the whole job was completed was less than 1 week! And the gutters I selected were even a special order, non-stock color! I couldn't be happier and would definitely recommend PRX as well as use them again in the future!

Everything went as promised and expected. There were no unpleasant surprises. The work was done in the thorough and professional manner I expected.

The windows were delivered to the house on Friday, April 19th at 0730am. Our house was built in the early 70?s, back when there weren?t many of newest digital tools available for contractors to use in construction. Needless to say, the crew who came to the house to perform the work found a challenge at nearly every opening. The crew, John and Robert, arrived on Saturday to begin the work. They introduced themselves and verified they were with Preferred Roofing and began their work. It took a short time to make the tool set-up they use and once completed, they began removing and replacing one window at a time. They methodically removed the outside trim around each window and carefully unseated the window panes from their frames. They then repeated the task on the inside, finally, removing the frame from the wall. They began the preparation for installation by checking the rough opening for square and measuring the frame and the new window. Since each window was different, there was extra time taken to be sure the correct window was placed in the correct location. At the end of the day, they made a thorough sweep and clean of both the outside area and the inside area. All the debris was either placed in their truck or the trash can. They let me know they were leaving and asked what time they could be back on Sunday morning. The crew returned on Sunday morning on-time and began their work as they did on Saturday. This was repeated on Monday and Tuesday morning as well. The final clean-up and overall check was made on Tuesday. Everything was completed to my satisfaction and the crew left the site for their next job. John and Robert were friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and very professional while on the job. They let me when each window was being worked on and answered all of my questions along the way. If they saw something they felt I should know about or see, they did so in a professional manner. At one point, they needed to break away for a quick repair on another job within a few miles from here. They let me know what was going on and returned shortly to continue. I chose this company because of their outstanding reputation on Angie?s List. I thoroughly checked their website and their credentials prior to asking them to bid on my job. In my opinion, there is no equal to Preferred Roofing & Exteriors. I used them for my new roof and gutters and I will continue to use them for other work around the house. Once you meet Mr. Steve Case, the owner, I am confident you will choose his company for your work as well.

HUGE expense. Fast forward to today, after the powerful rainstorms that left the Chicagoland area flooded and new roof leaks for me. I called Preferred Roofing, who responded immediately. Steve was meticulous in going through my attic and inspecting my roof. I appreciate that he and his staff are quick to respond, careful to solve the problem correctly, respectful of my time and fair with their prices.

In Feb of 2012, We had this company come and redo one portion of our roof, which was a decent sized / priced job. They were very responsive & reasonably priced. The job was done and we were very satisfied. When we moved to our new house, we called to have repair work done. A very small job as compared to our previous one. When I first called, they sent out a new project manager to give us our quote. After a week or so, he contacted us and told us he was not with the company anymore and if we wanted to go with him independently for a cheaper price. At this point I still felt partial to the company since they did a great job with our previous roof. I did call the company and told them about the scenerio of their previous employee and I thought it was unprofessional on his part. I asked if I could have the original project leader (that we worked with before) call me. When he did & he reviewed the quote and considered it good. We agreed to it and went on to scheule the work. For 2 months our job got bumped / rescheduled for "weather", "other jobs", "crews short handed", "managers out of town" excuses. It finally came down that the project manager stopped calling to re-schedule our job all together. Obviously, we went with a different company but I will never use or recomment this company again.

He returned my first call within a half hour, scheduled an appointment within two days and my house and garage roof was completed in one day about two weeks after my original call. It has been a privilege and a pleasure dealing with him and I would trust him to complete any work I need done in the future

Mr. Steve case, the owner, came out to meet with us to examine the roof and provide a quote. During his inspection, he pointed out our attic insulation was very low and not able to help us save on heating and cooling. I asked Steve if he new someone who provided insulation and he gave me the name and number of someone he had used many times. Upon our acceptance of the quote, Steve came out again and showed us several shingle choices and fully explained the differences between the various types of shingles. We also spoke with Steve about some other carpentry issues and Steve again provided a name and number of a trusted associate. About 2 weeks after the order was placed, the roofers came to the house and within about 5 hours, they were packing up to leave. We thoroughly inspected the surrounding area, especially the driveway, for debris (nails in particular). We found the crew had done an excellent job cleaning the grounds. A minor glitch occurred during the next rainfall; our bathroom fan began "leaking" water. We called Steve right away, and within a few hours had the problem corrected. The fan vent flap, on the roof, became stuck on the screen that prevent birds from entering and thus the rain came into the house. We were very impressed with Steve and his company. The professionalism and expertise were something others need to try to emulate. We would recommend Preferred Roofing & Exteriors to anyone; and we will be using them again soon for replacement of our windows and doors. A wind storm damaged the flat roof over my garage, rolling it back like a rug and exposing the very bottom layer. The storm also knocked many of the spindles off the decorative railing that goes around the roof's perimeter. Steve Case got back to me very quickly when I left him a message and sent someone to my house to temporarily tack down the rolled back section of the roof. (There was more rain in the forecast, so it was imperative that this be done quickly.) The next day, Steve came out to assess the damage. He took pictures with his iPad to show me exactly where the problems were. He scheduled the work promptly to avoid further rain damage. This required getting a special permit from the city, allowing his team to work on the weekend. I was out of town when the work was done, but the lion's share of it was complete when I returned. Two spindles were missing from the railing, which were replaced within a few days. The job was professionally done from start to finish.

The whole experience was great from beginning to the end of the job. Everyone was so courteous & they were done with the roofing in one day. Everything was cleaned up & you couldn't tell that they had been here expect for the beautiful new roof! I got 3 bids and got the best deal with the best materials from this company. I highly recommend Preferred Roofing!!
