"Hi, R U sure you reviewed the right company? I have never did any work for you,at list I don't have anything on files."
The house hadn't had an exterior dryvit/stucco inspection in some time, so we called Peter Pawlek based on the very positive reviews here. He came over on a weekend, which was a big plus, and did a very quick walk around. Most of the dryvit was fine, however there were some areas that required exterior painting and caulking. He quoted a lead time of "a couple of weeks"
A full month later after much prodding, his worker showed up (2 hours late) and largely unprepared to work. Stayed for only a few hours, and then said "I'll come back tomorrow". The next day he never showed, and no phone call. After another call, the worker showed back up for another 3 hour day of work 2 days later. The painting was fine, but the worker left behind a mess.
Total bill for 6 hours of work? $3000! Most high priced attorneys don't charge $500 an hour, let alone simple painting and caulking. When confronted with the price, Peter was rigid. In fact, insulting. A quote: "I only took this small unworthy by nobody job, as you know to help you, It's a very busy season for me."
Needless to say, I was very unhappy that this vendor was so dismissive of my job, while not having an issue with his exorbitant fees. I should have known - when he showed up for the inspection he was driving a new Audi A5 ($50K car) - should've expected to get gouged!
Steer Clear!
"Dear Client, You have hired me to paint exterior wooden front porch and back bay window with caulking.(not to do Inspection of Dryvit/Stucco because I am not an Inspector) I have not done any stucco/dryvit work for you. You took my consideration and we agreed on contract price which you were very happy to sign - Quote "Peter, I asssume the quote includes as well the chimney re-caulk/sealing that you pointed out yesterday? And the service for the front and back door areas includes re-caulking as well? If so, please amend the contract to include these items and I'll sign be happy to sign so we can get started. Best, [removed member name]" 2nd day that you have mentioned about my employee not showing up it was because of rain. You know very well that we do not paint during rain.(It's really very easy even right now to check what was the weather that day in Chicago land). Employee did came prepared and went to Home Depot for additional supplies, you were very happy with the work completed. Quote "Peter, Thanks for clarifying. Can you please send me a final bill? I figure with 6 hours of work total between Friday and Today, even with supplies, we'll be well below the $3000 initial estimate. I'm very happy with the work! Best, [removed member name] " What kind of mess did he leave behind exactly? Since I did not give you a discount for work completed and we did have a contract, how nice of you to write such a review. I was not hired per hour, but to complete job which you agreed to and said you were happy to sign. Per your entire feedback, it truly shows that it hurts you what you have paid for my work. I just wish you have raised your objection up front and not when the job was completed. Again, it clearly shows that you are happy with final project but not the fees. btw, I drive Audi A6, not A5 and the price ticket is $53k -)"
His price was very competitive, but more importantly, his reputation for craftsmanship
is excellent. The job was pretty comprehensive - tearing off old "stuccato" boards and
old cross boards on an English Tudor. Then applying new ply-wood, new Tyvek, meshing,
scratch-coat, base-coat, primer, and custom colored finish texture. Peter was on site
daily. His crew did a fabulous job. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Aspire Construction, Inc. !!!
