Poorly. Tony contacted me very quicly and asked for photos, which I provided within 10 minutes. We discussed on phone and he said he would have my quote back to me. It has about a week and a half and haven't received anything from Tony. I sent a follow-up text but he didn't respond.

I have been very pleased with them and I would highly recommend them.  The job went very well when they came out to install it.  The guys name is Tony, my neighbor referred him to me and that neighbor mentioned two other neighbors that had used him, so I called them, they all were very, very pleased and gave me a high recommendations for him.  I checked prices with other companies, there were a couple lower, there were a couple that was higher, and his price was in the ballpark area.  He and his crew did an excellent job, they did it in less time than what they said they would do it in, and he took care of all that needed to be done in terms of permits and everything, so it was done and it was fine.

Tony Abbate the owner of Northshore Electric arrived on time and was very professional.  He provided me with all the options and costs associated with a natural gas generator.  Unfortunately the cost for installing a Kohler 16K unit was too expensive for my home.  He provided a detailed estimate and did not bug me to sign or get this installed when I decided I was out of my budget.  I would recommend him for anyone who wants a turn key generator system.

I found them online. His name is Tony Amate. As far as the installation was concerned, first of all he did not follow code. There is a code in Mt. Prospect that says the entire generator needs to be at least five feet from any opening. He put it in, but he didn’t follow that code. I had to have it moved. He came back out and he moved the generator for free. I will say that was a good thing, because he did say that if there was an issue with where he put it previously, then he would come out and move it for free. Although he acted as if he was doing me a favor by saying that. I don’t know if it was coincidence. I don’t necessarily believe in coincidences; I work in the IT industry and I do things like change management. I know that whenever we make a change to an environment, if something breaks, it's not usually a coincidence. It was soon after he moved the generator that the generator starting failing its normal weekly cycles. The generator does a self-test every week and that started failing. I got in touch with him, and had multiple emails going back and forth to try and get him to come out and troubleshoot the generator. He came out, ran some tests on it and never found anything wrong. I finally decided that it was no longer worth pursuing him to do the work and went with somebody else. I was sorely disappointed by them as well, although they at least replaced the part. The generator started running normally, but now has been failing its tests again. Tony from North Shore Power Electric Co. was totally unwilling to work with me. He didn’t want to come out and troubleshoot the issue. He just wasn’t interested in pursuing the problem at all. Over the course of time, I have lost my parts and labor warranty. It is now just a parts warranty. Nobody can tell me with any certainty what the real problem is. We live in Mt. Prospect not even 15 miles northwest of Chicago. We are in a very densely populated area with a lot of trees. Due to storms that move through the area, we lose power on a frequent basis. There were some issues in the area where we were losing power frequently. That's why my neighbor, me and a neighbor across the street all bought generators. My generator is the only one that fails its tests on a regular basis. My other issue with the whole thing is that nobody can tell me with any certainty what the real problem is. Just not troubleshooting the problem is the real issue. The price was about on. He was here when he was supposed to come and put in the generator. He was here when he was supposed to move the generator. I would not use them again in the future.

"Unfortunately people are people, and they will always be 1. biased 2. selfish. 3 self seeking. 4. And sometime will lie. Let me explain. [member name removed] wanted a CHEAP generator, so I gave him what he wanted, I’m just doing what the customer wants. Customers are always right even when there wrong. Yes I put the generator were he asked me to put it because he did not wanted to look at the generator kind of in the middle of the yard, and I understand that. With that been said Yes I made the mistake of trying to please the customer, dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t you just can’t win with these type of individuals unfortunately it come with the territory. And yes I did [member name removed] a favor by moving it for free, since it was his desire not to put it as far out from the building 5 feet Unfortunately this is a very cheap generator, it’s the cheapest on the market to be exact. I cant help people that want the best, and can’t afford it. When I first talked to him I was straight forward and asked what he wanted to spend, I suggested a different brand that is much more reliable but he did not want to spend the money, unfortunately America wants cheap, and good. That does not exist, this is why almost all the generators are made in China, and yes they are cheap. I’m only selling people what they want, I don’t make anyone sign anything that they don’t want. [member name removed] also mentioned that he got other people to come out and see what was the issue, but they couldn’t find any problems. That says a lot about this individuals. [member name removed] mentioned that he was disappointed with all the others as well that came out. What that really means is that he’s disappointed in himself for been cheap, and just wants to blame others for his mistake in the choice of the generator he purchased and just wants to vent out and blame everyone else. Unfortunately [member name removed] selectively forgot to mention how many other times I was out at no charge to check the generator for him even when he did not ask me to, I just did it voluntarily out of kindness, and look how he turned on me wow, very sad individual. If anyone would like further information I’m always available to talk (847) 308-3030"

After going 5 days without power during the summer I decided to stop waiting for ComEd to upgrade the grid and purchase a backup generator. After getting several estimates, I decided to go with North Shore Power Electric. Tony was extremely knowledgable, and is a registered dealer for several of the major brands. I asked for his honest opinion in regards to the size and brand, and he gave it to me straight. His advice was pretty much what I read on the internet. Some of the other companies only sold one brand, and were clearly trying to upsell to more generator than I really wanted. The installation took half a day, and Tony was there to make sure everything went perfectly. He tested the generator, and made sure I understood everything before leaving. They left the work area spotless. The power has gone out a few times since installation, and it has worked flawlessly. Tony also came back this fall and did the annual maintenance at a reasonable cost. I would consider doing the maintenance myself, but not being a very handy guy, I'd rather just pay the pro to take care of it. I've never had to use their 24 hour emergency service, but every time I call, Tony answers the phone, so I'm sure they'll be there if I need them. Overall, I've had an excellent experience with this company, and would recommend them to anyone needing a backup generator.

I was very impressed with their service. He came right out and he had the fan installed in about a half an hour. Right after the work was finished he was gone. They are expensive, but they are all union workers who are licensed and know what they are doing. I have been very satisfied with all of the work that they have done for me. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

On Sept 11th 2008, Martin from Northshore, leveled the unit with stones and left many pebbles spread around near the unit. I called the same day and spoke to Abbate about another gas leak. On Sept 12th 2008 at around 5:30 am I heard noise from my bedroom window, I was going to call the police then I saw a flashlight moving around near the unit and went to investigate. The Northshore employee was trying to replace a gas line. When I went outside to see what he was doing and why I wasn't informed of his coming to my home, in the dark at 5:30 in the morning. He said they are busy and this was the only available time. The Northshore employee spread stones around the base of the unit so it would appear that they were also under the generator. The stones were also spread around my yard and I picked them up so as not to damage the lawn mowers and the possibility of damage to my windows by stones being thrown by the lawn mowers. I asked Martin to call Abbate, he called, and I tried to discuss the situation with him and said I didn't understand his employee and he hung up on me. His employee pulled and tugged the generator to get the gas lines to fit. This, of course, created another gas leak. This is unacceptable and it s dangerous for me and my family. On the 25th of October 2008, Chad Brown, an employee of Steiner Power Systems came to my home and repaired the Kohler generator that was installed by Northshore Electric Co. Chad also found another gas leak and repaired it. I wrote to the Kohler Company by email and was called the next day by the Steiner Company. Kevin McGowan came to my home on Saturday, October 4th 2008. He inspected the installation and agreed the generator needed a better foundation than the few pebbles that Abbate's employee put around the unit, not under, were they were supposed to be. He told me that he would call Abbate on Monday Oct. 6th and tell him of his findings. On Monday Oct. 6th Kevin called me and said Abbate would email the next day. I have never heard from Abbate. At this time I no longer trust the professionalism of the Northshore Company or it's employees. I received a quote of $1100.00 to reinstall the generator properly with a base that would stabilize the unit and install a gas shutoff in the gas line after the Nicor shutoff in case of future leaks. I am requesting a refund of $145.00 for the less than one hour service that was allegedly done on Sept 9th 2008. $250.00 is excessive for the service that was rendered I want a $200.00 referral fee for referring a friend, as promised by Abbate but somehow slipped his mind. The $1100.00 for re-installation of my Kohler generator. Total: $1345.00 plus legal fees.
Response from Northshore Power Electric, Co.

"Unfortunately Member has what is called (selective memory syndrome) about 90% of what he wrote on this report is inaccurate, we have a copy of the signed contract that specifically said that a permit is necessary, and that he refused to take out a permits and signed the waiver. this contract is available for anyone that would like to see it by calling me @ (847) 308-3030 1. the signed contract clearly states the terms that he refused to apply for a permit. 2. The contract does not say anything about a concrete pad, the manufacture does not require one and they recommend just gravel. A concrete pad is installed only at an additional cost. 3. after we went to court Member lied under oath and this was obvious because the judge told him to basically (answer the question) 4. After the other contract repositioned his generator Member gave them problem also. Final comment: there's always more then two side to the story, just check the court records, Member didn't lied to the judge/court and got nothing in return, the judge simply did not believe him."

It was impossible for them to know for sure what the problem is/was. However, they described everything to me in detail and explained what the possible options might be. They exchanged circuit boxes so we could possibly diagnose if it was a bad circuit breaker or if there is a wiring problem. At least I felt informed and that they were proactive in trying to figure out the problem - and for a lot less than the other company charged for a 5 minute visit to switch out the circuit (which I could have done myself).

I cannot express how happy I was to work with them. They show good old fashion customer service and they are just excellent to work with. They will ask questions and explain in laymen s terms what work is going to be done. I love them.
