The short version: This ended up being the single worst experience dealing with a contractor our family has ever had. I would not recommend them under any circumstances for any restoration or repair work. They did not show up when they had commitments to, the work was sloppy, they didn't stay on their timeline and didn't give adequate notice for extending, and their customer service is one of the worst I've ever experienced. That said, the actual water mitigation work was satisfactory.
Here are the highlights (or rather, the low points):
The Project Manager assured us that he or the owner would be the only ones who knew the key code to access our home while we were out of town during the refinishing of our floors. Contrary to what we were told, the flooring contractor was coming and going at odd hours (8pm / 11pm) on his own. No one from the company was letting him in/out of our home.
Our planned timeline was that the work would begin on a Thursday and be finished on the following Tuesday. After checking in on Monday, we were told they need more time to finish (?mother nature? / humidity / drying issues). Fine ? we extended our trip for a day and my husband and I both took another day off of work. As we are driving back (8 hrs into a 9 hr car trip with three very young children), we receive a call from our project manager who apparently has not been at the site until then and reports to us that we cannot come back into our home, that the job is not finished and that there are issues with the floor refinishing. They have now put a family with three young children into a situation where we need to find a place to stay with an hour?s notice.
The issues with the wood floors were: Contractor used both oil-based and water-based poly coating. We were assured it was going to be water based, as we requested, and very low VOCs - not the case. Note that he and the owners denied it, yet we found both cans in our garbage container in our garage. And, clearly there were two finishes on the floor. Also, the coating was applied very sloppy: uneven application on the floors, ?bumps? on the floors, a footprint in one of the first layers of poly, and sloshing up on our custom baseboard woodwork. The Contractor also spilled polyurethane on our driveway creating a stain and then it is denied later. When the contractor was confronted with questions about the work that was performed and things that needed to be corrected, he got flustered and walked off the job.
Contractor appeared to have unplugged our freezer in our garage resulting in a total loss of 2 months worth of homemade baby food, and steaks/chops, prepared meals.
So ? this situation left us with having to move into a hotel for another week (with three very young children) find a new contractor since theirs walked away from the job and start ALL over and re-sand the floors and re-do the refinishing.
Every time I called their office, I was spoken to in a very rude manner (and this was by one of their owners). Customer Service = F. There were other issues, but I think this is more than enough to give you a picture of what to expect in working with this company.
