I asked what caused it to be empty. he said he had no idea. I had to press him into investigating the cause. He spent two hours using a gas dniffer to check approximately six feet of copper tube and associated joints for leaks, finding none. He then put a uv dye into the system and said he would have to return in a week to use a blacklight to search again. I asked for a best guess at repair costs once the leak was found, he told me $150 if he just had to solder a joint but he was guessing that the entire five year old system would need replacing but he wasn't sure because it had been years since he had worked on residential systems. Needless to say I didn't have them back.

Very responsive to get to us quickly. Explained everything. Assured us they had worked with our complicated system before. Made us believe it could be made to work well for us. I am happier than ever with their service, personal and expertise.

It went well.  I got bids from other reputable companies, but I have a modest house in a modest neighborhood, and I got great value for my money with Miller Engineering/Comfort Zone.

My furnace went out entirely in early November and I needed a
replacement fast.  I called Miller and they were very prompt but the
installer they sent did not seem like a professional.  He made a huge
mess in my basement during the installation and although he swept when he was finished, he still left a lot of debris.  Some of the new duct work that was
installed was shabbily constructed and some changes to duct work that I had requested
were never made.  Over all, the installer seemed like he was in a big
hurry to finish and became very agitated when he dropped the thermostat
wire into the wall.  The following fall when I had the unit tuned up before turning it on, I found out that the high efficiency
furnace I purchased had not been installed properly so was not delivering the efficiency I had paid for.  It required
additional parts and a different fan speed setting as well as an increase in the size of the return duct in order to work well.  Miller quickly answered my call for an emergency furnace installation, but the quality of the installation was poor.

They arrived on time, and got straight to work. He cleaned the ancient boiler, checked for any potential problems (luckily none were found this year), checked the pressure gauges, and did standard annual maintenance.

Axberg was the HVAC company that installed our replacement furnace in 1995. Our Carrier furance was initially problematic because of faulty computer boards. Over two years Axberg was hopelessly incapable of fixing it under warrenty. After the warrenty expired, Axberg wanted serious money to repair the furnance's continuing problems. My husband got Carrier involved, and Carrier service techs fixed the problems in one call AND extended our warrenty at no charge for three more years. We were very dissatisified with the service of Axberg. Sadly, in Rockford IL, HVAC companies only fix the units that they install. We were stuck with Axberg. Axberg was turtle slow to respond to service calls in the last 14 years and required additional calls to fix minor problems. We had to change HVAC service companies. When our central air conditioner failed to run 7/27/09, I found Comfort Zone Heating & Cooling, which services Carrier, in the Yellow Pages. My husband explained to the person who set up the service call that we were dissatisfied with our current HVAC company and would like to try a different service. She set an appointment for mid afternoon that day. The technician called to give us a 20 minute heads' up and arrived within the scheduled time frame. He was professional and did not waste time. His equipment was neatly organized, and he did not make a mess. All repair parts were on his truck. He gave us excellent advice with regard to maintenance and operation of our HVAC equipment. The cost seemed a bit high, but Comfort Zone is a union shop (division of a commercial HVAC company). A union shop's labor is generally higher than a non-union independent. Our A/C works better than it did last season. We would use Comfort Zone again and would recommend their services.

About 4 weeks after having them perform the annual maintenance on my ancient boiler, I started hearing a high-pitched noise coming from the motor (it turned out to be metal on metal). They came right out and their service man spent about an hour trying to repair/rebuild the motor, but we decided given the age of the motor it would be best to replace it. The new motor didn't quite fit into the casing perfectly, so he carefully retrofitted my existing casing, saving me the cost of a new one. The boiler worked perfectly throughout the bitterly cold winter. Best of all-the bill was about $100 lower than the original estimate! (Probably because they'd just serviced the boiler a few weeks earlier.)
