Lucerne's Fondue and Spirits

This restaurant normally opens at 5PM, however, by appointment for a group they will open earlier.
This was our family's holiday celebration- held early in December to accomodate everyones' schedules.  The restaurant is in an old "victorian style" home with original rooms and woodwork.  It has dimmable lighting.  The rooms were very nicely decorated for the holidays and there was holiday music playing at just the right sound level.  We had a semi-private room.  It was not like being in a restaurant. It was very much like being in our own home with a hired staff to prepare and serve the meal.  The owner, Mark, was very gracious, pleasant, polite and professional.  He was ready for us when we arrived and was attentive to our needs throughout the meal.
We came with gifts to exchange and a "family history ice-breaker game".  We were given a second table to hold the gifts and of course,  because of all of this, we were there a long time.  Some of the family lives in Rockford, but others came from out of town just for the meal/gathering.  We made the most of their hospitality and they did not disappoint us.  We enjoyed a very relaxed meal with lots of good conversation and time to catch up with the 3 generations of us.
They also have a separate, small (maybe 6 stools?) bar area where guests could go to stretch their legs or to have a quiet conversation away from the table.  It seemed to be fairly well stocked from what I saw. The only thing missing was coffee.  If this is a must for you, I would call ahead to see if arrangements could be made for that.
We all had a great time.  We really appreciate Mark and staff for making our family holiday gathering a special event that will be remembered for years to come. And, there is talk among family members that maybe we should do this again next year!
