Pat and his brother Paul were easy to work with. We often saw both of them out there with their large crew of workers, not just supervising, but giving them a hand. Everyone that worked for G and O had high praise for both Pat and Paul. Even during a down economy, in a town with an exceptionally high unemployment rate, they found ways to keep their staff employed.
Their first step was to install a brick sidewalk along the side of the garage leading to the deck. They took up an old, broken attempt at a sidewalk, then used the same bricks to intall a beautiful walkway. This led them to an overgrown set of stairs built using old railroad ties. They used very large landscaping stones intermingled with two curved landings using the save pavers as the patio. My daugher-in-law remarked, and quot;Oh! You have a yellow brick road!and quot;
G and O then removed all the old flower beds and installed tiered beds of stone. Another success! Their greatest challenge was removing 100 yards of concrete, dispose of it and build a river wall. They brought in a very large front end loader to remove the concrete. This was especially difficult since they had a very narrow area to negotiate between the creek and the house. The equipment fit between these two areas with only a foot to spare on each side! Pat suggested that instead of transporting the concrete off the property, we dig a borrow pit at the back of the property. This saved us a large chunck of money. They dug the pit, buried the concrete, then covered and leveled the area. You would never know there was a giant hole there!
Pat and Paul used a crew of 10 - 15 men to build the wall. Pat worked with his crew, in the water, measuring and leveling stones. I was amazed that they were able to finish the wall in less than a week. There are no words to describe the diference in the appearance!
The final piece was the patio on our lower level, just in front of the creek. They used brick pavers that blend perfectly with the brick on the house. They added a lighted seating wall and a sidewalk leading from the stairs to the patio. (Thus, the Yellow Brick Road!)
I can't believe how great the finished product looks! Pat will be assisting me in the near future in the process of choosing and planting new shrubs and plants. He will also be installing some decorative lighting to highlight our beautiful oak trees. Again, his idea. The only problem was the time it took to get the large piece of heavy equipment used to remove the concrete pieces. The entire project probably took twice as long as expected because of this difficulty.
Overall, I would use G and O Landscaping in a hearbeat for any other outdoor projects. Pat and Paul are personable and easy going; but know how to get the job done. Their staff is friendly and industrious. They cleaned up each day after they finished working.
Thank you to everyone at G and O for a truly fabulous job! I can't wait to use our new space!
