That was a rather major event. It stretched out for a while until everything was done.
Bufalo representative Sean Asprooth inspected our aging shingled, sloped roof area late last fall and provided an estimate for tearing off four layers of old shingles, replacing any damaged roof decking if needed, installing new felt and architectural grade shingles, and reinstalling the drip edge and gutters so that the water runoff properly flowed into the gutters rather than down the wall as had previously been occurring. We approved the work too late to begin in 2013 due to the early winter and we waited for spring. The Bufalo crew did the work on 4/16/2014 when the weather finally warmed up some and the work was completed before 10am the same day. The crew took extra care in clean up. All debris and excess material were removed.
Bufalo included a 5% Angie's List discount off the cost for this job. We were fully satisfied with the work and I later contracted with Bufalo again personally for a roof replacement on my own home in Rockford (that review also just submitted).
Bufalo Contracting representative Sean Asprooth reviewed the initial repair estimate provided earlier by our Hanover Insurance adjuster. Sean identified a couple areas including ice and water shield coverage which would not have met local code requirements and agreed to negotiate with the insurance company for the required additions and then complete the repairs at the adjusted total negotiated with Hanover. Our net out of pocket would be limited to our $500 insurance deductible. Sean helped us pick out architectural grade shingles in a color and style that would complement the appearance of our house. We asked about and Sean recommended replacing our individual metal roof vents with continuous ridge vents and agreed to do so without additional cost to us or the insurance company. We agreed and contracted with them to complete the work. Material for the repair was dropped off at the designated location beside our garage a few days before the work was scheduled. The roofing crew arrived about 7am May 28th and gave us time to get our cars out of the garage for our convenience and then backed a trailer up under the garage roof overhang to catch the debris. They also placed tarps all around the house to catch falling debris and protect our shrubs and flowers. The crew tossed most of the debris directly into the trailer but what missed or fell off the roof was caught on the tarps. At the peak they had 5 to 6 guys working at one time on the roof plus one on the ground picking up debris. The tear off was completed by 10am. The total work including replacing roof decking where the old roof vents had been, cutting back the ridge for the continuous roof vents, laying the ice & water shield and roof felt and installing the new shingles plus full cleanup was completed before 4pm all the same day. Sean picked up some left over material a few days later.
We are completely satisfied and pleased with the roofing work Bufalo did for us and with our interactions with Sean Asprooth as well as the Bufalo roofing crew.
Bufalo has also been amazingly patient waiting for payments to come through our mortgage servicer, Loan Care, plus the final insurance payment from Hanover. Just to clarify, we had received an initial check from Hanover for the roof repairs less our deductible and a recoverable depreciation hold back the day the adjuster inspected our roof damage. That check had to be signed over and mailed to our mortgage servicer Loan Care. Loan Care then required additional claim forms to be submitted by Fax twice and then they took their own sweet time to issue a check to Bufalo for the first half on June 18th fully 3 weeks after Bufalo completed the work. Loan Care held the remaining half until their own inspector checked the work. Their final check wasn't issued until July 24th. We've just received the final check from Hanover for the depreciation hold back including the negotiated add-ons as of today, Sept 22 2014.
Bufalo is a general contractor, and as such, hires subcontractors to do the work. I can only speak to the crews that performed our work, but I was generally satisfied. I would recommend them to at least bid on another project.
