Specializing in basement finishing and remodeling, we are a family owned and operated business located in Riverwoods IL with convenient access to the Northshore. Our primary focus is on basement finishing and remodeling with the ability to handle other projects throughout the house. As a homeowner and father I understand Rules of the house and the hectic schedules that families are under. That's why we make it a point to discuss schedules, hours of business and procedures within the house. We work with the homeowner to design and layout the basement around the family's' needs and budget, GCM Construction is a basement finishing and remodeling company. Our field crew handles the complete job from demolition to the final coat of paint and everything in between. We have licensed electricians and plumbers as part of our team. Excellent! Guy and his team are true professionals who take pride in their work. From start to completion, Guy was very organized, communicated regularly with us about the schedule, the deliverables, and the decisions we needed to make to ensure the project met our expectations and was completed on time. After the demolition phase, we encountered some structural engineering issues in the basement. Guy quickly put us in touch with structural engineers, he bid out the project, and we were able to solve the problem and stay on track. In addition to his technical know-how, Guy and his team partnered with us in designing a basement that met all of our needs — a fun and stylish space for our teens to hang out in, while providing functional design and modernizing the space with updated electrical, gas fireplace, and LED lighting. In addition to the amazing finished product, we appreciated Guy’s work ethic. He and his team were always on time, and made sure the work progressed every day so we avoided any down days. Guy was a wonderful partner in this project, and we highly recommend him!

Working with GCM was an absolute pleasure. Every person was kind and nice to be around. It felt like family coming in and out of your house all day instead of strangers. As far as the work goes, they did an amazing job. Guy worked with our needs and wants and built us a place where we want to actually spend time. If the work wasn’t absolutely perfect, they would do it again. We have never done a home project before and Guy gave us the direction and guidance we needed. I’d hire GCM to do any project in my home.

Guy was everything we were looking for in a contractor. He does everything by the book and doesn't cut corners. He is: 1) Extremely organized, the entire project was laid out step-by-step 2) Communicates every step of the way 3) Him (and those he works with) are generally very neat, leaving the rest of the house clean while the work is being done 4) Friendly with kids and pets Guy worked with us to make sure all of our oddball requests were included in the final project (including changes made after the project began).

I couldn't be any happier with the work that Guy and his crew did on our basement. Based on previous reviews I thought that his bid would be out of our budget, lucky for us it fell right inline with what we wanted to spend. Guys digital design software took the guesswork out and was very helpful in making some changes prior to the start of work. Another plus, Guy was willing to make changes along the way and helped talk us through some design challenges. His crew was respectful and very clean. Most of all, we have a finished basement that our family and friends can enjoy.

The project ran on schedule and within the agreed budget. Workers arrived on schedule and Guy Hincker kept us apprised of the daily schedule and made us aware of what we should expect along the way for the entire project. We had a partial basement that needed to be completely remodeled. GCM was great in working with us to layout the basement and communicating pretty much on a daily basis on progress and plan as work progressed. The basement turned out great and we are enjoying the added family room/office. There were couple of minor details that needed adjusting but Guy was great in getting them completed. We would definitely hire GCM again and wish they did more than basements.

Amazing results by GCM construction!!!! This is the second project Guy has done for us and he has honestly been the best we have ever worked with by far. The first project we worked on with Guy was our basement about 18 months ago. Since completing that project we have had zero issues and continue to get tremendous compliments about the quality of work that was done. When it was time to gut our kitchen, GCM was the only company we trusted to do the work. Guy and all his sub contractors are professional, diligent and experienced so everything is done the 'right' way with outstanding quality. In addition to the quality of work done, what i really appreciated is Guy kept his team moving so the project was done on schedule and there was consistent communication so I always know who would be coming to my house and when. His ability to organize and execute a complicated kitchen remodel with many moving parts was simply amazing.

We had been thinking about finishing our basement for a while. We did a great deal of research and received three different quotes which were all pretty similar in price. We had never done any type of home renovation before, and Guy made us feel very comfortable. The project moved along pretty seamlessly. Guy communicated with us very well along the way, and he brought unique and great ideas to add to the basic ones that we had. Guy was there frequently to supervise the subcontractors, and the space was cleaned each day. It was a very large job, but Guy made the whole process pretty painless. Guy even offered to accompany us to cabinet, granite, and tile appointments to share his perspective which was much appreciated. We ended up with a beautiful basement for us and our kids complete with TV area, bar/kitchen, gym, dance studio and plenty of space for games. There were no surprises with costs which we had been warned about by friends who have used contractors in the past. We would not hesitate to use Guy again or recommend him to others.

Guy was the best contractor we ever dealt with. He was also punctual, and we were never blindsided about inevitable delays when happening with working with this number of sub-contractors. He was clean, professional, and always checked in nearly every morning and evening. He addressed all concerns in a timely manner, and we were beyond happy with the finished product. We would use Guy again in a heartbeat.

We worked with GCM based on recommendations from a friend who used their services. Guy Hinker is very professional and knows what he is doing when it comes to basements. That is his expertise. He designed our basement remodel and made suggestions to us that we had not thought of. We were very happy to work with him and was always available when we needed him. We were very picky when it came to choosing the right contractor to work with. We met with 5 contractors before we chose him. He is honest and trustworthy and sticks to his words. He and his team were all very professional and always on time. We didn't have any issues and they met all of our timelines. Guy would show up at 7:00 am sharp to start the job- he became part of the family for the last few months and he will be missed. We love our basement and everyone who has visited us has been blown away by the remodel.

I contacted Guy to get a quote to finish our entire basement. We had a few ideas of what we wanted in our basement but he was able to give us more ideas of how to best use the space. After receiving a few more bids, Guy's bid was considerably less and he was going to be able to finish by the holidays. His quote was also done in a professional manner....computer drawings, timeline and a list of what we would need to supply. Throughout the work, Guy was timely, checked in on the subs in the morning then checked in with us at night. He kept us updated and made sure the subs were getting their work done and cleaning up after themselves. We have worked with a number of contractors throughout the years. Guy is the only one that responds in a timely manner which makes the working relationship so much easier! We'd gladly have him back and have already recommended him to our friends.

When we were looking to do a basement remodel, we were looking for not only someone to do a great job, but someone who was responsive. We had already seen a basement finished by Guy and it was top quality. It was obvious when we started working with Guy that he is not like most other contractors. He is very professional, was available to discuss the project each night and address our concerns quickly. He was a pleasure to have in our home and always respectful of our family. We had an extremely labor intensive job which had a large team led by Guy Hincker. We had not known Guy previously, but through working with him on this job, we now consider him a family friend. Our basement is relatively small with some awkward mechanicals and some unusual sets of problems that required some serious problem solving skills. Guy's team of subcontractors were largely punctual, always tidy and respectful and did excellent quality work. We were especially enamored with Miguel Rodriguez's tile work. But kudos goes to Guy who had to manage a large team of plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, painting, structural engineering, & glasswork. With all the details of such a big job, not everything went perfect (electrician forgot to install TV cable), but the important thing was that communication lines were always open so that we could talk to Guy, and he would respond in a timely fashion EVERY time. The bottom line is Guy is a truly decent human being that we grew to trust. Our twin toddlers will miss seeing his smiling face and we'll miss their screams of "Guy, Guy, Guy!" when his truck pulls up.

This project exceeded my family's expectations in every way possible. Over the past 12 years we have lived in our current home we have done several projects and worked with a number of different contractors and builders. I can honestly say Guy and GCM construction is by far the best we have ever worked with. First, Guy's expertise on basement remodels is second to none. While we had ideas on what we wanted to do, Guy's experience and attention to detail ensured we were able to make effective use of our space in ways we never would have thought off. Also because of his attention to detail there were absolutely no 'surprises' along the way that could have blown our budget or caused significant delays. Second, Guy is by far the most organized contractor I've ever worked with. He ensured the project moved from day one with no 'down' time. His communication was tremendous. He always ensured we knew who was going to be working each day and he was very hands on in meeting his sub contractors at the house each day to ensure they were clear on what needed to get done. Also he definitely holds his team accountable to make sure everything is done with exceptional quality. Not only that but it was clear Guy has worked with his sub contractors on many projects which gave us confidence that everything was being done with quality every step of the way. I really cannot say enough about how happy we are to have hired Guy to take on our basement project. We had very high expectations for the quality of work we expect to be done on our house and so the bar was set high for this project. Guy has given us a basement that our family will enjoy for many years to come and our entire experience with GCM exceeded every expectation we had. Thank you GCM Construction!!!

We're thrilled with the finished product, and it was done right and on budget. It really doesn't look like a basement, but just another living area in our house. When Guy said something was going to get done, it got done. His communication with us was exceptional. I never once had to try to track him down or anything like that, which I've experienced before. He would actually call me to update us each day. The quote was a little higher than some others we got (although not the highest), but we were clear on the scope of work, and Guy didn't try to nickel and dime us. We added some work during the project (such as replacing a bunch of our 60-year-old galvanized plumbing while the ceiling was open). That work was also done quickly and at the price we agreed, which was totally fair. We highly recommend Guy.

Pleasantly shocked at how perfect it turned out and ahead of schedule. Guy was trustworthy every step of the way. He inspired confidence from our very first meeting and presented options. He advised on whatever we needed help picking out, even meeting us at Home Depot to go shopping for fixtures, etc. Most impressive, Guy was there every day to make sure the contractors were doing everything to spec, and he called me every night to make sure I was happy with the work that day, answer any questions, and to tell me who would be coming the next to day to do what, and when. This is my 3rd project with GCM and once again a very happy experience! I now have my vision of a flexible finished garage space that I can use for multiple events, parties, club meetings, and teenage hangout space. Teens really love this space! Had to first address structural issues to ensure safety of building. Really appreciated Guy giving me design options that saved me money and his timely responses whenever I had questions. Also the subcontractors he uses are all very good. Guy is constantly on site to make sure key deliveries of equipment and installation is correct. Also he is regularly onsite to ensure any unforeseen "gotchas" get handled with minimal impacts (cost, time, quality) at all remodeling stages of work. Thanks Guy for another successful project! I would definitely use his services again!

GCM Construction completed basement remodels for us in 2015 and 2017 (two different homes). We originally found GCM via an online search and read through the reviews, just as you are doing now. We appreciated the fact that GCM’s primary focus is basements - there are a lot of contractors out there that do basements, but few that have made it their primary area of expertise. After living through two basement remodels in two years (can we get a frequent basement finisher rewards card?!), we are happy to share our experiences. Guy Hincker, the owner, was involved from beginning to end. He was on the job site every single day (I know, because I was here, too!). He was typically the first person to arrive in the morning, checked in and got his crew started. He was available all day on an as-needed basis and called every evening to debrief, address any questions/concerns and discuss the plan for the next day. Excellent communication. In terms of the crew, Guy has a great group of sub-contractors working with him. Framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, millwork, HVAC, painters - we saw them all and were thoroughly impressed. Punctual, hard working, detail-oriented, friendly and respectful of the home (bonus points with three young children around the house!). We were always aware of their schedules - when they would be arriving/leaving - and the job site was clean at the end of each day. Guy was flexible with us as we tweaked things to the original proposal along the way. No short cuts and no surprises - he ensured things were done right. Both remodels were on time and on budget. Guy handled all of the permitting for both projects and provided a notarized final waiver of lien at the end (without being asked to do so). Professional from start to finish. We love our current basement (and the one we no longer own - ha!) and highly recommend GCM Construction.

Guy Hinker & G.C.M are fantastic. Due to a sump pump error our finished basement had flooded. We looked into just fixing what was damaged and saving a few bucks, but we’re glad we listened to Guy and gutted the whole thing. We were never truly happy with our previous basement so it was a good direction for us to go. We changed the footprint of the basement, opened up the stairway and added a powder room & kitchenette. All work was professionally done to the highest standards. Guy takes great pride in his projects and is very conscientious. He was in constant contact with us to make sure we were happy with how things were going, if we had any concerns or needed to change anything as the project went on which I might add was finished in a timely manner. He made us feel our project was a priority and made sure visiting contractors respected our home. Thank you Guy for making our basement a place we actually want to spend time in.

Guy Hinker is a great guy and he has vast experience in basement remodeling.  Very nice guy.  Very detailed which is important when it comes to cost and labor.  Very professional.  He even takes the time to sit and talk with you non-work related, to see how you are; compassionate contractor.  You can tell he loves what he does.  He also meets you at every appointment:  from tile work, carpet, home depot if you have to he will be there.
