Value Discount Flooring was recommended by my Realtor, stating Tony was a family friend. My realtor was fantastic, and his other recommendations panned out wonderfully, so I gave Tony a call (I also had one other company come in for estimates).
Upon meeting Tony in my new condo I really liked him. He was personable, friendly, and gave me a sense of trust. His estimate came in nearly 25% higher than the other company, but with what I was paying I wanted to go with somebody that made me feel taken care of, so I decided to pay the extra $$ and signed up with Tony and the Value Discount Flooring team. As soon as I gave him the call that I accepted his offer, everything immediately changed.
I explained that I needed Proof of Insurance for my condo association. He said no problem, I'd have it the next day. Three days later, 3 emails, and 2 phone calls I finally got it (the day before they were to start, which was later than my condo association was supposed to accept it). I had to call three other times to correct the invoice, because after they sent it 4 different times it was incorrect. All this headache before they even started the work!
Tony told me the unit could be done in one day. I was moving in on a Tuesday, and told him the entire week before my move the unit was open and empty. He decided since it was a one day job they would come on Friday.
When the kids arrived to do the work, there was an immediate break-down in expectations. I had to tell them THREE TIMES that they were to move my washer/dryer to stain under those (my estimate included moving all appliances, but they kept questioning it). When I spoke with Tony I explained the color I wanted, and even had a picture of exactly what I wanted. He said that when the workers got there they would show me several colors on the floor so I could decide which one. Well, another breakdown in the process. The kid that was there told me that he was notified that I wanted clear coat...NOPE! So I had to wait 30 minutes while they went down to the van to get some color options. They brought up 3, and that was it. So I'm paying all this $$, and I get three color choices? None of them were exactly what I wanted, but I wasn't given much other choice (one wasn't far from what I wanted, and yes, I should have stopped the process right then, but I was moving all of my stuff in a matter of days and had to get the floors done...so it was pick one of three choices that I was 'okay' with or not get floors done at all).
When the I left, the kids told me this would be a two day job. I explained that Tony said one day. When I left I called Tony and asked him about the length of work. He assured me it would be done Friday...maybe Saturday, but probably Friday. Because of that, I called my condo associate to warn them the work would go through Saturday (my building has to give 24 hour notice to residents when refinishing work is being done). Friday night I got a call from Tony that it would be completed on Saturday.
Saturday afternoon I get a call from somebody at the company (NOT Tony which was s*****) saying that it would be going until Monday, and I needed to stay off the floor until it was completely dry. I explained that I already paid movers for Tuesday morning and it had to be done. They offered no apologies. Because of the third day of work, I was fined by my condo for not proving enough notice.
The work did get complete, but nobody called me to let me know. Nobody called to follow-up on the work and my satisfaction. I was assured when I gave my deposit that they did not keep the credit card number and I would have to give the number again to pay the balance (I was told this three different times and have it in an email). Well, you guessed it, I was magically charged without giving my card again, and without anybody calling to make sure I was okay with the results.
The good part is, the floors themsevles looked nice (I was still just 'okay' with the color, but the work was good). The bad part was that my walls were scuffed up, and they claimed to have used dustless sanding...but there is no way that is the case. Additionally, although the kids did move the washer/dryer, they didn't actually hook it back up; I had to ask a friend to come over to help pull it out (I'm a single woman and couldn't get it out myself) so I could re-hook it up. They charged me for a service and didn't compelte the work (yes, that is a minor thing, and if it was the only mishap in the process I wouldn't think twice about it...but it was just the icing on the cake.
Hopefully I've provided you some thoughts to seriously reconsider going with this flooring firm.
My experience was much different than other surveys on the internet. It was a very positive experience amd I defitely would recommend them to others.
