We are quite pleased with the outcome.
Overall the quality seems quite high.   My only quibbles are that the employee didn't or did show up when expected but this was only a few times.   He also shouted on his cell phone quite a bit, which bothered me since I work at home.   But the employee was well mannered and worked hard.
I would use Karl again.

Our first impressions of Karl were very positive. He was very friendly and his estimate was reasonable. Several situations arose during the remodel that Karl did respond to promptly and attempt to remedy ( new tile floor was scratched when cabinets were drug across it by his installer, solution did not succeed, but Karl did make an attempt. Bedroom adjacent to bathroom had paint scraped off of ceiling during remodel process; Karl did attempt to remedy and ultimately paid for someone else to repaint ceiling.) However, the tile floor installed in the shower failed. The tile was water logged and was not draining properly. This is clearly a huge issue (mold etc) in a bathroom shower! We notified Karl, and he regrouted the tile floor. This did not fix the problem and we notified Karl again. At this point, he would not respond to us at all. Calls were made, emails sent, and texts sent, none of which Karl responded to. The shower floor needed to be fixed, so we brought in another tile guy. He removed the shower floor and determined that the preslope, which is necessary for a tile shower floor to function properly, had NOT been done. He re-did the shower floor properly. The shower floor has functioned perfectly since then. This re-do cost us over $1,000 in new tile and labor. We notified Karl of this cost. He did finally respond that he had never gotten our previous emails, texts or calls. He did not respond to our request to reimburse us for the money we had spent re-doing the shower tile floor.

Team removed fixtures and existing tile floor in basement bathroom, leveled floor and installed new tile.  This crew is VERY PROFESSIONAL and CLEAN.  During the demolition, there was hardly any dust outside the work area.  They completed the job in less time than estimated with no extra charges or surprises.  All base trim replaced and fixtures caulked when reinstalled.  This crew goes the "extra mile" to make picky customers like me happy.

We chose to work with Karl because we were impressed by his knowledge, network of subcontractors, and the thoroughness of his bid.  We interviewed three contractors and Dynamic Remodel Solutions came in in the middle price-wise.

We bought a 90-year-old house that hadn't been modernized in decades, and Karl worked with us to install ceiling lights, outlets, electrical panel, and to bring electric up to code; demo walls and reconfigure doors, closets and hallways; put in new kitchen, powder room and master bath; and refinish wood floors. This was a major job, with kitchen, bath and old power room stripped to the studs.
Karl helped us find an architect to develop plans and then brought in crews of subcontractors for demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywalling, plastering, countertops, cabinetry, etc.

Here's why we chose Dynamic Remodel Solutions and why I'm so happy with the company and Karl:
  • He clearly knows what he's doing and capably handled every aspect of the job.
  • Karl has a vast network of subcontractors, so he can bring in teams to perform specialized services at great prices.
  • He managed schedules and kept us apprised of timetable
  • His bid for the job was extremely detailed with line-by-line breakdowns for every aspect of the project.
  • He provided us with a realistic timeframe and stuck relatively close to it for the duration of the project.
  • He checked in with me in person almost every day to discuss what had taken place, how it went, what steps were coming next, and what he needed from me and when (buying a sink, picking out cabinets, delivery of appliances, buying tile).
  • When he purchased items for the job that were included in his bid, like shower door glass, doors and doorknobs, trim, etc., it was consistently high quality materials, not the cheap stuff.
  • His bid included granite countertops, which we selected, that are gorgeous, high quality slabs that would have cost me at least two or three times as much if I had gone and bought it myself
  • When we called or texted Karl with questions, he was consistently responsive, getting back to us that same day.
  • He oversaw city permits and inspections
  • Bottom line: great quality of work, outstanding communication, great value = very happy.

-- Update --

Karl warned us that the glass door had a chance of becoming uneven with the frame as it settled, and to call him if we had any issues.  After about 6 months our door started to rub against the frame and we gave him a call.  He immediately responded to our call and worked around our schedule to come out and check out the door.  On the date of our appointment he showed up on time and was able to fix our door at no additional charge.  We still highly recommend using Dynamic Remodel Solutions; the work done was great and the support we have received after the fact has also been great.

---

We had gotten bids from a few other contractors, and Karl was able to come into a price that was in the middle that I was comfortable with.  I felt he was very clear at explaining the work he would do during the estimate process, which is why I ultimately decided to go with his company.
While we had issues sometimes connecting with Karl at first, he was able to fit our job quickly in between his other scheduled jobs, and while he was working on our bathroom he was completely responsive when we contacted him.
When I didn't think I'd be able to pick up the tile in the suburbs in time before the job was scheduled to start, Karl was nice enough to go for us to get it and even drop off a sample for us to check.
As a new home owner, this is the first contractor I have hired that wasn't referred to me and I was completely impressed with their punctuality.  They always showed up right on time, and they finished the work right in the estimated number of days.
We're very happy with our nice new completed shower, and we would definitely hire Karl in the future.

We chose three Angie?s list contractors to offer bids.

Karl did a fine job in the initial consultation.  He listened attentively, discussed problem areas, and offered alternative design ideas that we hadn?t originally considered.  We chose Karl and Dynamic Remodeling Solutions based on the combination of pricing and overall knowledge level.  His price wasn?t the lowest, but it wasn?t materially different from the cheapest and his initial consultation gave us more of a comfort level.  The two projects were priced separately and the downstairs project was to be completed first.

After making some last minute changes towards the scope of the work and the wording of the contract we were set to start.  The first project went off without a hitch.  Within a week we had a new powder room and hardwood flooring throughout the foyer.  The work was top notch and everything was completed to specifications.  If there was a problem area it was the amount of dust created from the removal of the old ceramic tile.  DRS did its best to contain it, but ceramic dust can find a way around most any protection.

The second project came several weeks later since we were indecisive over choosing the design elements and finishes.  Karl was understanding and waited patiently.  Prior to starting we discussed the demolition and dust containment issues.  I was quite pleased to see the set-up this time.  Doors were taped shut, the carpets and all walk areas were covered, and a special plastic-encased area was built for tool storage.

Again, the finished product was very well done, quite stylish and modern.  There was a mishap during demolition causing water to leak through to the kitchen, but this was remedied to our satisfaction.   In summary, I would definitely hire Karl again and I believe he deserves your consideration for a remodeling project.  I can?t say my experience was completely ideal, but Karl gets it.  He understands a contented client is good for business and he puts in very effort to make things right.

Karl carefully and accurately explained his quote and his work process, including potential issues that would remain unknown until actual teardown began (since our home is 104 years old.....). He remained in contact with us the entire project, and made sure both his crew and my wife and I knew the daily schedules. He also worked around minor work stoppages when we found that extensive plumbing work was required before he could continue with remodeling.
His crew was extremely polite and they took care to seal off the construction area from the rest of the house. At the end of each day, the area was cleaned with no debris or tools laying around.
At the end of the poject, he performed all painting, trim and repair work to the extent that there was no touch-up or minor fixes required at all.

A few days after the end of the project, we thought there was a problem with the tub, and Karl came out and was ready to back us up if the plumbing company tried to push back and claim no fault with plumbing. He watched the plumber check the pipes, and it turned out to be just a rodding job to fix the problem.

This company has several good things goping for it. Karl is organized, responsive, easy to talk to, and never blows his cool. His crew is very skilled and each seems to have a different spcialty, so they can handle a wide variety of tasks. They can put in the little extras, such as recessed alcoves in the shower tiling for shampoo and soap, and conveniently locate outlets where we need them. However, they are also professional and will not cut corners, nor attempt to do things against code.

They started the project by putting up barriers to protect the rest of the house from dust and dirt.  They were very clean, courteous and professional in their day to day activities.  A few weeks after the project was complete they called to make sure everything was working to our satisfaction.

Overall, this was a colossal waste of my time. Karl (the company owner) was recommended by Daltile. He came to look over the job fairly quickly, measured everything and promised an estimate which didn't come and didn't come. After many unreturned calls from me, he eventually answered and said he'd been busy; thereafter he did provide a written estimate. It was quite high - $1,500 for labor. I asked him how much it would be if I eliminated certain steps. Never heard back. I didn't feel like chasing him down again so I hired someone else who did a great job at half the cost. As a side note, I did finally hear from Karl - five weeks after my request for a revised estimate.

We contacted Karl about remodeling all three of our bathrooms in the home by phone during mid-September. He asked me to email him a date for an estimate, and told us he would send us some good tile places to begin looking. I emailed him a good time for us to have come by for an estimate, and he never responded. He did show up that evening, although I assumed he wasn't coming because I never heard from him. We spent about an hour with Karl, as he measured and discussed ideas with us. Although we weren't pleased that he never contacted us about the appointment or the tile places, he seemed knowledgeable, friendly and thorough, and we were still willing to use him if his quote was ok. He finished up by telling us he would get us a quote "late this week or next week". Well, it's been a month, and we never did hear from Karl. We are looking to spend alot of time and money rebuilding our master bath, with a custom shower, tile work, and new cabinet. All we can think is that Karl doesn't really want the job for some reason, either because he's too busy, or just doesn't need it.
Response from Dynamic Remodel Solutions Inc

"i have met with the customer as she stated above. but had a lot of personal problems happen all at once. some people could relate to that. that being said the estimate was not sent out in a timely fashion as i strive to do. i have contacted the customer after a month and explained to her what has happend. i know i have disappointed my customer and my company. i strive to do my best and i just felt short that month. but im back on track and i wont let that happen ever again."

They did a really good job with the remodeling. The guy they subcontracted to had come out to sand down the tub he just did not seal the bathroom tight enough so the dust escaped into the living room and all over the upstairs. The tub looked nice, there was just a ton of dust to clean up.

- Excellent overall experience and final results - Karl Markowski (owner) performed the initial consultation and estimation - Price was very competitive with the 2 other estimates I obtained, and Karl accepted my $250 Angie's list coupon - Karl provided (without being asked) a CD with possible tile patterns, tile distributors, recommendations on designs, and references - Karl was on time (early actually) to both the estimate meeting and for each of the working days - Karl was on-site for the start of the work and for any critical work phases - Karl was great at explaining and showing me what he found (from previous builder) and what he was doing to try to prevent same problems from recurring) - Job site setup/prep was excellent - they covered my hardwoods and the rest of the bathroom to ensure no collateral damage - Resulting product was as expected/desired. Workmanship is very good. 1-year warranty on work so I'll keep my fingers crossed that my problem is solved. - Will absolutely use them again if needed

The shower in our master bathroom was leaking, and damaging the ceiling of the guest bedroom below it. We called a plumber out to investigate and he determined it to be a leaking shower pan, not anything with the pipes or fixtures. Because the shower was custom marble construction, rather than a drop-in, this required rebuilding the whole floor - a process that involves laying pan liner, waterproofing, and then pouring new concrete and laying the marble tiling. When I called Karl, he came out to the house the next day and provided a reasonable quote, some good ideas, and a lot of references. He explained that we needed to provide the tile and they'd take care of the rest. Work began on a Monday and took most the whole week, probably 4-6hrs a day on average. The guys were very punctual and did good work without making too much of a mess or even a lot of noise. They were also efficient with the time, patching the drywall while waiting for concrete to set, etc. Overall the project went smooth and we've been very happy with the results.

Considering the work described by other reviewers, I think I was overcharged, and overall the work that was performed I found disappointing. Initially it was difficult to get a quote from Karl, then it was unclear as to what he was charging me for. The pluses were that Karl was punctual (although the first day of work they showed up at 6:30am instead of the promised 7am) and did get back to me quickly, and the tile work (after it had to be fixed) in one of the bathrooms does look nice if you ignore the fact that they didn't space the detailed rosettes symmetrically. But overall there were too many mistakes and errors made, including screws in a dryer vent they installed. I ended up tearing it out myself and replacing it with the proper materials that wouldn't pose a fire hazard. I had to monitor (requiring me taking time off from work) the tile installation on one of the bathrooms as so many mistakes were being made I didn't trust that it would be done correctly when I wasn't there. They failed to seal the tile/grout on that bathroom, and the grout (white) has dirt and other particles in it resulting in a relatively dirty look overall. I have spent considerable time trying to fix their mistakes, and am not confident that they even did the work properly (the shower pan they poured doesn't appear to have the right pitch..., not sure how well it is sealed, etc...) They left a lot of the waste from the job there, including two large buckets filled with liquid waste which I will have to carry down three flights of stairs. The floor and walls are not level, even though they were installed on top of the studs (Karl said it was because I had "old" walls and floors, but the studs and joists are in perfect condition). I could go on and on with my complaints, but won't. I was so disappointed and demoralized with this experience, and am still very sad with the overall quality of the work, considering how much I paid him (and this was not even the total amount of the quote, as it was very clear he had charged me for work that he had not performed, such as demolition, installation of vanities and toilets, which I did myself). I don't know what happened on this job, it is clear Karl makes other customers very happy, but I am disappointed with much of the work and the amount of money that I paid him. In addition, when they installed the dryer vent and started working on the second bathroom, they clearly walked on top of the conduit for the fixtures in my downstairs neighbor, knocking wires loose and resulting in several of their lights not working. Karl's response was to tell me it wasn't his responsibility nor his fault, even though the problem started at the exact time they started working. It was only due to Tom, one of his workers, trying to just fix it that it was solved. That spoke a lot about Karl's integrity. According to Karl, I should have had to hire an electrician to come out and fix the problem they had caused.
Response from Dynamic Remodel Solutions Inc

"When I showed up for work the first day I was told by this customer that she is an early riser and she gets up at 6am. So I told her I should be there around 6.30 so I could get a head start on bringing up the tools since she lives on the 3rd floor. everything I did with her bathrooms I asked her and explained how the process is going to be. With the rosettes not being symmetrical is that at the last minute she asked me to do a boarder around the bathroom with two different tiles, and I didn't charge her any extra for that work. With the dryer vent, was just ridiculous she emailed me that I have no knowledge of dryer vents and putting two little screws in the vents will build up the vent with lint and then cause a fire, when she purchased a multi-opening vent cover on the out side which will be the area that all the vent lint is going to trap itself. When we started she wanted to have this done as cheaply as possible, so I told her and we agreed that she would do the demo work and the garbage will be taken out by her. Well demo work wasn't done on time my workers finished her demo work for her and for the garbage I asked her multiple times if she wants us to carry them out for her at no charge, but she refused it. All the tile work has been done professionally and I don't know what she is talking about the pitch in the shower pan. All my pans have very small pitches due to slipping in the shower, and the dirty tiles that she has a problem with is the fact that she demoed the tile that was in the kitchen. As a result of that she left the floor boards dirty with probably 40 year old adhesive and even though I tried to cover the floor and explain this to her she still didn't understand that walking on the boards and then on new white tiles will leave a dirty residue even though the tiles and grout are sealed. I tried to explain to her that I put in a lot of hours in to her project but every time I told her what needs to be done she just told me to do it on or under the budget. I asked her if she wanted the walls straightened out but she told me not to touch them because she likes the look and character of the plaster. The electrical problem was the old panel. The fuse went out and due to the fact that she freaked out my worker tried to fix the problem from the neighbors because the plumbers that she hired before me clogged the neighbors tub. When I showed up I went down stairs and fixed the fuse. At the time I tried to explain to her that this is not our problem because when my worker checked the wiring in the neighbors everything was fine. At that point I tried to explain to her is that it might be something that we haven't touched. Every day I asked her if everything is fine and fixed everything promptly. My final thought is that she is a good person and liked working for her but at the end she came to me and said I charged her too much and she is not going to pay the last payment. (even though she signed the contract and agreed) This customer is very DIY and lives by the things she reads on the internet. My only rule in this business is never leave a customer unsatisfied with my work and in this case it wasn't a problem until the last payment."

I first contacted Karl about doing a complete kitchen and bathroom remodel (some re-framing, drywall, tile, cabinets, etc.). I was really impressed upon meeting him, but it took a while to get a quote for that job. I assumed he didn't want the job and went with another contractor. That contractor turned out to be horrible, so I called Karl to complete the job and install the cabinets, which he graciously accepted. Because of my experience with the other contractor, Karl let me come look at another job he was working on. The job turned out great! My floors were extremely uneven, so it was a lot of work to make the cabinets level. He also had to plane one of the cabinets to fit tightly (again it was uneven) into the fridge alcove. The installer was very friendly and professional. He brought a mat to protect my floors and was very careful with moving the oven so as not to scratch them. There were a few minor issues. When touching up the nail holes in the crown molding, he got Sharpie marker on my freshly painted ceiling. He also drilled one of the holes for the hardware in the wrong spot, which had to filled with wood putty. Karl agreed to replace the door, but luckily it turned out that door happened to be the one with a defect that the cabinet maker is replacing. I will be using Karl to redo by bathroom tile, which was installed wrong by the previous contractor.

Overall, I would rate my experience with Karl and his crew as one of the best I have come across. I knew I was in for a professional job when Karl showed up on time for the estimate, took detailed notes, provided a realistic contract with the work broken down and most importantly showed up 15 minutes early for the first day on the job. Karl and his crew were very flexible and easy to work with. They explained what they were doing each day, asked questions when they needed to, and went above and beyond to finish before we had company visiting from out of town. Each day Karl and his crew arrived on time, and had all of the tools and materials necessary to do a good job. Overall, our bathroom came out fantastic and we couldn't have been happier.
