We had a builder grade furnace around 16 years old with issues and our AC had started to smell up the whole house, like a sweet peach odor. (The AC had been replaced seven years earlier due to a senior family member living here that turned the AC on when it was too cold out - it burned out). We also had an electrostatic air cleaner as we have allergies and a humidifier. NLB had done a neighbors system and they were happy so we called NLB out. Nick provided a through explanation of the various upgrade options and grade furnaces we could go with. We felt no pressure, we were just presented with various choices and the benefits of the higher cost options. He provided multiple estimates for the different choices with a Reme Halo electronic air cleaner system. We did some research and got some prices from others but returned to NLB.
We went with one of the higher estimates which included a Trane variable speed furnace and the Reme Halo air cleaner. The variable speed furnace allows you to control air flow/air cleaning/humidity control without the heat or AC having to be running. This variable speed furnace converts AC to DC to run the furnace motor. We also went with a more exact duct mounted control of humidity rather than the wall mounted humidistat. A thick air filter was sourced to fit into the electrostatic air cleaner housing. (Our electrostatic had no paper filter so it was a constant maintenance to keep it clean and effective).
Nick secured a permit from city of Joliet before performing the work. The old furnace was removed from our property the same day the new furnace was installed. The installers were very nice did a very professional job. I was shown why our AC smelled. The previous installer used too thin of material under the A coil. It had deformed and shifted so the condensation would not drain out thus causing mold to grow. They showed me the material they would use and what steps they take to prevent it from ever shifting. The city inspector commented on the clean install and gave his approval.
After spending over three months with the variable speed Trane and Reme Halo, we are very happy. The house stays cleaner due to the paper filter sitting in place of the electrostatic elements. The air smells clean all the time due to the Reme Halo. Cooking odors disappear quickly. All in all hated to spend the money but no buyer?s remorse afterward. The only downside is the Halo bulb requires replacement after a couple years.
I Called Nick on 6/30 and he was prompt to answer the phone and schedule a meeting on 7/2 for a quote on an new system. Nick did call me back on 7/2 and said he had a big project and needed to reschedule the meeting until 7/7. No problem, so I rescheduled. Nick then calls me back on 7/7 at the time he is supposed to be at my house to tell me he still doing a big project and needs to reschedule the meeting again. At this time I was fed up and canceled our meeting. I thought to myself if I can't get Nick out to purchase a new system, how would he be when you really need him for repairs. He may be a great repair man, unfortunately, he is a poor judgment on time management.
"We are sorry that you felt compelled to write a bad review about our company because we had to reschedule your appointment for a non-emergency Free Estimate. We contacted you promptly before the due time of the appointment, so as not to delay you. If this had been an emergency you would have never been rescheduled. As it is; we put emergency installations, service and repair calls of our regular clientele at the top of our list in priorities. We always welcome new customers, but obviously emergency work for regular customers must take precedents over a Free Estimate for new clientele. I am sure that if you were a regular customer of ours and the shoe was on the other foot, you would also frown upon the idea of us holding off, or rescheduling your emergency installation, so that we could go run a Free Estimate first for a customer we have never done business with. I am very sorry for you, that you felt it necessary to give us this review. It just goes to show you that you can please some of the people some of the time, but no matter how hard we try, and no matter how congenial we are we cannot please all of the people all of the time. I hope that you are 100% satisfied with your new contractor, whomever they might be. I also pray that you have a blessed day in The Lord. God bless you. Sorry that you are unsatisfied with the service that we were never given an opportunity to perform for you."
