First, Connie asked me to choose my cabinets from an online catalog. She made a point of mentioning that because this line was so low priced, they didn't have literature or samples. She finally found a similar cabinet door, but couldn't show me what my cabinets would really look like so I had to make a decision based on a low-resolution catalog that she found online. There was no small sample of the wood that I could carry with me to pick out floor tiles, paint, countertops or anything. She didn't spend any time with me and seemed frustrated to have to deal with me.
I came back another time to ask for a bid on granite. When I mentioned what Home Depot had bid, Pete refused my business. Again, he seemed irritated to have to deal with me.
When it came to my bathroom, Connie only bid on the cultured marble countertops--which meant that I was charged an extra $650 later for the bathroom vanities. She claimed it wasn't her fault. Of course, Hamptons got my business based on that underbid.
Later, I realized that Connie had added nearly 14and quot; to an inner wall in my kitchen to accommodate cabinets. I was livid. I only found this out because my electrician mentioned that the measurements didn't seem right and when I had someone else bid on the cabinets, they found this out. Adding to the length of an inner wall would have run a countertop so close to the front door that I would have had to close the front door to walk into the kitchen--not to mention that a beam would have had to have been moved and wall added which is money out of my pocket. I asked Hamptons to substitute an 18and quot; cabinet for another and this fixed things, but I was shocked that they did this. I can't believe that an inexperienced homeowner had to educate a professional kitchen and bathroom specialist on how to fit cabinets.
Last, whenever I called Hamptons and talked to either Connie or Pete, I felt rushed and disregarded. I'm sure they have higher paying clients, but I found it demeaning to be treated so disrespectfully. Every other one of my contractor's workers and subcontractors has treated me very well.
I had high hopes when I first walked into Hamptons. My contractor uses them because they underbid others, but I ended up paying as much as I would have with another vendor and had to catch a huge error they made. Very disappointing.
