I hired Bob Kelch Flooring to restore my upstairs hardwood floors and staircase. The flooring was in rough shape. It has patches of linoleum stuck to areas of the flooring. Bob Kelch's crew came in and gave my pine flooring a new life. Both carpenters each had 30 years of experience! The men were professional and educated me on each step of the process. I would definitely hire them again.

Beautiful results! They are real experts that know all of the potential issues and success factors associated with refinishing hardwood floors, especially the removal of pet stains through sanding and piecemeal patching to replace boards for which the stains could not be removed through sanding. Their finish carpenter was excellent in replacing such boards and with accommodating special requirements for doorway thresholds, fireplace trim and floor register covers. Price was very competitive with two other competitive bids that I obtained.

They were on time and efficient. Several old return heat registers had been covered with plywood before carpet had been installed over existing hardwood. They replaced with oak and you can not tell where the old registers were. Great! Work! Great! People!

When the carpet was pulled up the floor was in terrible shape. So we had them put down 2 1/2" red oak flooring, sanded and finished. They said they could start the following Monday. I told them we would need help getting 4 rooms of furniture moved to the garage and other items put upstairs. They also provided help moving the furniture back in and the items brought back down from upstairs. They provided the help we needed which we paid extra for. We were moving stuff back in the house the following Monday. They even bought felt pads to go under the furniture which we paid them for. They also refinish the orginal threshold into the house it now matches the floor very well. They were wonderful to work with and very helpful. The final price was very close to estimate. If you are thinkinbg of having a floor done make sure you give them a call. Becky was very helpful from start to finish.

Two of these questions need clarification. Quality. The quality of the product was fine. The quality of the installation was abysmal. When I looked at the installed flooring, a bamboo floating floor type installation, and realized that the subfloor had never been leveled as evidenced by the fact that some boards, when stepped upon, sank almost 1/4 inch compared to the one beside it, I immediately said I was not happy because of the poor installation. Mrs. Kelch's first words were, "You are just saying that because you don't want to pay for the job!" When I pointed out the amount of give from board to board she said, "Well, when you get some furniture on it, that will stabilize it." When someone came in to install cabinets and pointed out that the flooring installation instructions said very specifically "DO NOT INSTALL CABINETS OVER THIS FLOOR" her reply was that I had DEMANDED the flooring be put down first. What nonsense! Kelches, not I, had the installation instructions and I was never told that cabinets could not be installed over flooring. I don't believe the installer (Mr. and Mrs. Kelches son) had ever bothered to read the instructions. I had, by this time hired a certified hardwood flooring inspector who had spent three hours going over every bit of the flooring installation and found far more faults than I could have imagined including one spot in the utility room where the flooring had been shimmed up with a piece of a cardboard box. ( I had paid a $6000,00 deposit with a credit card and had by this time requested a charge back. I had Kelches remove the flooring and take it back. Because it was a floating floor which is not nailed down, most of the wood was intact and could be resold. ) The next tactic from this company was to impune the character of the floor inspector by saying that he , of course, wrote the report to favor whomever had paid him. Finally, after 6 or 7 months of this, the credit card company ruled in my favor and the entire $6000.00 was returned to me. I am over 75 and must simply have seemed a good target. The Kelch family has been in business in this area laying flooring for 100 years. I have dealt only with this one member of it. This report refers ONLY to Bob Kelch Flooring which is affiliated with Columbia Carpet Co.
Response from Bob Kelch Floors
"Bob Kelch Floors had a representative from the flooring company come out and inspect the floor and said the installation was correct. We did what we had to do to try to make the customer happy but nothing we offered was acceptable to her."

We received excellent service on every level. Our floors look amazing and people were shocked to learn they are the original floors and not new floors. We couldn't be more pleased.
