Andy arrived quickly and promised estimates for our remodel: master bath and replacement windows, doors, and siding. He asked for and received payment for bath design work by an outside designer. Four designs were submitted: none meet our needs, much less followed the criteria provided. After a wait of several weeks, I called Andy to ask why no bath redesign had been submitted ... and when he planned to get us the estimates for the rest. He explained we were "overbudget" on bath design. He went on to say that after our problems with first two sets of designs, he had asked the designer to make an appointment to see our bath and go over the details with us; she reported back that we had refused to do so. Not at all the case. Now for the kicker. What about the promised estimates on the doors, windows, and siding? "That's going to take a lot of work on my part," Andy explained. "So would you be willing to pay me for it?" I could hardly believe my ears. Managing to stay calm, I explained that, we certainly don't pay contractors for their marketing or sales costs. Andy didn't see it that way. He didn't miss a beat when I noted that several other contractors ? all on Angie's List with excellent ratings ? had submitted no-cost bids ... including no-cost bath designs. "I'm still busy with jobs," was Andy's comeback. "Maybe those other guys have the time because the of quality of their work." I wasn't going to waste my breath pointing out that, when he met with us, Andy readily agreed to provide estimates. Never did he broach the looney notion of getting paid for that. Had he done so, the only door under discussion would be the one I was shown. Immediately. Perhaps it had slipped Andy's mind that he last told us his current major project was a redo of a large North Shore home. This was the fourth for the same client. One who buys distressed properties and "flips" them. Not the market any of the other contractors we met with were serving. Truth to tell, I didn't find Andy on my own. He was strongly recommended by an Angie's List Award Winner (security category), who quoted on upgrades/replacements we also needed in conjunction with door/window replacements. This security contractor's reco of Andy was based on work done on "my mother's house." He went on to extoll Andy as a master carpenter and a builder of fine homes. It was this same Angie's List Award Winner contractor who contacted Andy and had him get in touch with us. Came to think that "mom's house" was just a dodge. When Andy was asked to recommend security contractors, he mentioned that all such work by his company was done solely by the contractor who given me the reco. As for the AG Nelson website: It's not available. Andy claimed it was under construction when we first met him. Over two months later and still nothing. He also doesn't answer email. Why then did Andy hand me his private AOL email?
Description of Work: Inappropriate bath designs were submitted by his selected subcontractor. Nothing else was done ... or could be.
