I was referred to DLS & had to leave 3 messages before I even got a call back.  Hard to reach - he must not listen to voicemails as you can leave him a messages.  Took Dave over a month to get me quote.  Not really happy with quality of bushes - I had to have him replace at about 5 bushes during the job as they looked dead - not sure why he would choose to plant those.  Then he put the wrong color mulch down.  Limestone steppers were sinking and though he said he lifted one, it didn't look like it.  Doesn't warrant bushes but I negotiated a warranty - thank god as he had to come back & replace about 8 bushes less than a year later.  His guys did not show up for work the Friday before Labor Day - they were supposed to - oddly DLS's office was closed that day but Dave told me he had no idea why the guys didn't show - they just blew off the day.  I don't believe him - I think he just didn't want to tell me he gave them the day off.

They were out through all Summer.  The last time they were out was in mid November.  I think they charged me like $28 each time.

They might have sub-contracted the concrete front porch. There were a lot of projects.

He had the utilities marked, trenched and put down gravel and sand, installed wall blocks starting at one end and worked his way around the house (more than 160 feet.) The wall is level and looks great.
Removed 15 small shubs and several cubic yards of lava rock. Replaced by evergreens and mulch. Looks fantastic.

We were very happy with Dave. We went with him because he had the best ideas for drainage improvement. He helped us manage our costs and still get the desired results. For example, he suggested a more cost effective plant when our initial idea was to use boxwoods. We were pleased with drainage work - he also gave some advice on gutter downspout reconfiguration which helped us solve our problem. While it took longer than we wanted we were very pleased with the results. Thanks Dave and team.

Landscape company -  DLS contacted us and will be completing the work.  All is well now.

Spring 2013 was a very, very wet spring, and work wasn't able to be started until it stopped raining so much.  Therefore most everyone's jobs were delayed (no fault of the contractor) and ours kept getting pushed back in time.  Our job was difficult because they had to remove all the sod, deal with old tree roots and railroad ties, and contend with the rainy weather.
I did not rate the provider prior to now because we wanted to give the grading job a year long opportunity to be sure that the grading actually worked.  It DID!  We had no ice on our patio all winter long because water no longer pooled there.  We didn't have a trickle into the basement because the water now flows away from the house.
The cherry tree lived through last year's dry summer and terribly frigid winter and bloomed this spring.  We have grass, although it could use a lot of help.  THE day the grass seed was sown last summer was the first day of the summer drought.  
Overall I was very satisfied with the job. The only thing I would have liked to have been different was the level of communication.  I've learned that the level of responsiveness I expect may be asking more than most providers are willing to give. (Note -- I have found good communication in the providers I used recently, and it means a lot to me to be kept informed.)

I would use them again if needed to.

Dave provided a professional and thorough inspection of my yard drainage issues and provided the most effective solution when compared with other bids for the job. They did the work on schedule and the crew was respectful and neat. Dave showed up on site several times to ensure everything was going as expected and communicated with me throughout the project. Dave made certain that I was happy with how my sump pumps were flowing and made changes along the way to ensure that proper drainage was achieved.  I would definitely recommend DLS Landscaping for any yard drainage concerns.

I was quite happy with their work.  Dave Swanson came out to give me an estimate, I told him what I wanted, he gave me a quote, and pointed out some other things that needed done as well.  They came out and did all the work, and  they did a superb job of cleaning up.

I chose DLS Landscaping because their presentation was professional and the response was quick. There were certainly not the lowest bid.
The work is beautiful and the men who labored to make it that way are professionals.  The project changed on the fly and they were always open to suggestions even if it resulted in making the job smaller thus less expensive. Right after the work was completed we had a very wet day with much more rain than usual for this time of year. Not a single puddle formed on or next to the new patio.

The crew worked long hours, were very efficient, and polite. The owner went beyond what was necessary to make the patio beautiful. They used their engineering skills to add a drainage pipe under the patio.

It went great. The pavers on our front patio were coming up because of water erosion over time. Dave's crew took up the pavers and redid underneath with sand and they look great! Also, a plant bed next to the pavers needed some attention, so they cleaned that up by removing existing white rocks and putting down a weed tarp and mulch. Looks great!

it went great. i needed my front beds replaced. dave came and gave me some great suggestions on what to do. i needed it done before my fourth of july party and dave came through for me. the bed looks great and i got lots of compliments on it. dave is the best!

Very professional and prompt service at a good price point.  Everything went as expected from the initial on site consultation to the completion of the work.  The employees conducting the work did an outstanding job even though they had several challenges with the weather (rain).  They even stayed late into the evening to make sure that all the work was completed correctly.  They even alerted us when our two dogs escaped from the back yard.  Without their action we may not have found them.

We were having drainage problems in our yard.  Our sump pump line and downspouts, along with our neighbor's downspouts, were pooling in areas and making our yard pretty swampy in places.  Dave originally recommended a rain garden, but upon speaking with the village engineer, decided that a French drain connecting to the storm sewer would be preferable.  Dave's crew worked hard and efficiently each day, taking care to not leave our yard any more of a mess than was necessary.  They were also very good about fixing lines from the irrigation system that they cut (which we knew was bound to happen).  The true test came with this spring's heavy rains, and the new French drain system worked great.  No more extreme swampiness.  The only disappointment (if I can even call it that) was that Dave was sometimes slow to respond.  However, I understand that running your own business is a lot of work, especially when you're as hands-on as Dave.
