#2) Front brakes were done on our Toyota Highlander in August 2014. We had to return in March 2015 due to continued brake issues. We were told that adjustments were needed on the original brake work, but that there would be no additional charges. We picked up the car, and the first time we used the brakes to stop while going over 40-mph, the steering wheel shook violently in our hands and continued to do so with every stop. We brought the vehicle back and we were told that there was a problem with the rotors and they needed to be reworked. Did Arlington Toyota even test drive our car after the brakes were reworked the first time!! Based on our experience, the only test drive was likely from the shop to the parking lot.
Arlington Toyota is a beautiful facility but my main concern is reliable and honest service. After these two incidents, I will look elsewhere for service.
In 2012 I stopped in without an appointment because my warning light came on. Ted Davis, a service rep (I've liked all the service reps here) listened to me describe the problem, immediately accurately diagnosed it and immediately had it fixed before it went into his shop for service without charging me or costing me additional time! I highly recommend Arlington Toyota for service! I intend to purchase my next new car here when the time comes. I love the way this dealership rolls!
But the real problem occurred for my husband. He had purchased two vehicles from this dealer; he currently drives a 1997 Camry. Part of the sales agreement was lifetime free oil changes. Arlington Toyota had just built a new site quite near our home, so instead of going to his beloved Schaumburg Toyota, he went here.
He needed only the oil change, so when he picked up the car, he commented that he was entitled to free oil changes. The staff person said no. He asked nicely for them to look up his record; they had no record of his history with the company. (I think--and isn't the fallback on all poor customer service--they claimed the "new computer software" didn't pick it up.)
Frankly, that was an expensive mistake. Not only did they lose a service customer, they lost his future purchases as well as his much-requested recommendations to friends and colleagues.
Before that, he had some minor body work done. The work was mediocre, but he didn't complain. AND he gave them a second chance. Go to Schaumburg Toyota.
After arriving, we met our sales person, who proceeded to asked if we wanted to test drive another car of similar make and model, because "they all drive the same." He also asked if we wanted to check out their other inventory. We said "no," because we had already done the research on the dealership's inventory, and we were there for one specific car. After much fumbling about misplaced keys, our sales guy states that the specific car we were looking for was sold the night before... This is despite the fact that we called prior to driving to the dealership, twice, and we were assured both times that the car was available. Next, our sales guy calls over another sales guy who cordially pumps our hands and confirms that the car was already sold, but they "have other cars" we can purchase.
Basically, these guys lied to get us into the dealership. Needless to say, we didn't buy a car from them and NEVER will.
UPDATE: We checked the dealership's website 3 days later on whether they'd updated their online inventory to accurately reflect their car inventory, and sadly, the specific car we were looking for, the one that was already sold, is still on their website as being available.
Drove it to work Wednesday just fine, but when ready to go home, all of the warning lights came on--owner's manual said that the car should be towed, not driven, to the nearest dealer because it had no brakes. Also, car would not start. Seemed odd given it had just been given a tune up.
I was in Des Plaines, so called a local Toyota dealer which was much closer, but would not agree to comp repairs if the problem was caused by Arlington Toyota. Called the Arlington Toyotaand asked if they would cover costs if they had caused the problem . They said yes. Had car towed to Arlington Toyota and asked for a loaner. Turns out they don't have loaners, but we could rent a car from Hertz which has an office in the building--but oops, they closed at 6 pm.
Got frantic calls from Service on Thursday: You car's spare tire/hybrid battery compartment is full of filthy water! All the connections are terribly corroded! It was in a flood! It has a terrible body leak! The hybrid battery is ruined! This voids the warranty! They refused to give me an estimate for repairs, saying that they could not even estimate how much time it would take to find all the problems so they could give me an estimate. I asked where the leak was from, and they said the only way to find it was to run it through a car wash a bunch of times. I asked why car had no moisture or moldy smell in any visible areas, they said floods were like that. I told them to do what they could in the 1-hour diagnostic time I had agreed to when I brought it in. Service said that would not work--but they would be happy to negotiate directly with our insurance company to take care of everything. I said no. Things were smelling very fishy.
They "aired the car out" and got it to start. Went to pick it up Friday. Service said they worked on it at least 6 hours, but they would do me a favor and charge for only 2. I said no, I agreed to pay for one hour, and that was that. They reduced the charge. The Service person said they took all kinds of pictures, and showed me some pictures of dirt in the wheel wells of a car, but nothing to prove it was my car. Could not/would not provide pictures of the "flooded" compartment inside the car. So I opened up the compartment when I got home, and there is no corrosion, no indication of submersion, no indication of water, not even any dampness in the carpet. I believe they were trying to generate a big bill that would go to my insurance company, and that there was never any water at all--just some shenanigans at the end of the tune-up to be sure I'd bring the car back in.
I can sum up my thoughts in two words: Never. Again.
