The owner came out and gave me a quote - we agreed on the price ($550) -averaging about $29 per window.
The appointment was to be on Friday morning at 8 am.
No one showed up.
I called and the owner explained that they were very busy and there had been a scheduling error - that they would be out shortly after noon.
No one showed up.
I called again, and he apologized and we rescheduled for 8 am on Saturday morning (the next day)
No one showed up.
By 10 am, I was picking up the phone to cancel when they finally arrived.
One guy came to the door. We walked outside to discuss the job. He took one look at the windows and said and quot;uh-ohand quot;.
He was told that the windows were grey. He brought grey caulk.
My windows are white.
He said and quot;no problemand quot; - he would just run to Home Depot and get the correct caulk.
And off he went.
Never to return.
Around 5 pm a different guy showed up, explained that he was the first guy's brother (they had a business together (apparently In and Out subcontracted them) and that he was taking over the job. I asked if he could caulk 19 windows before sundown and he said that it wouldn't be a problem.
At sundown he was 1/3 of the way through.
He said that he would come back first thing in the morning to finish.
Much to my surprise, he actually showed up the next morning and finished the job.
Also to my surprise, he caulked all the windows on my second floor as well.
The following day the owner came by to pick up payment (this time he showed up).
I gave him the agreed upon fee (he asked for cash) and he was on his way.
Shortly after I received an email saying that he was confused by the underpayment - that since they did all of the windows (6 extra) that I owed him an additional $300.
I called him and told him that I didn't ask for him to do the extra work, but in the interest of fairness I would pay him for the additional work not at his new inflated price, but at the same rate we agreed upon for the other windows. He agreed. I mailed him a check and have not been contacted since.
