The plywood roof decking was damaged, the ice and
water shield (State of Illinois law) is missing or improperly
installed, the nails and the shingles were also NOT installed as specified in our
contract, the manufacturer?s work instructions, or by the Village Codes, resulting
in the job failing The Village?s final inspection' approval. There are numerous defects with the
installation of the entire roofing system.
Some of the defects:
4x8 Plywood Decking: The decking was damaged during removal
of the old roofing or from too heavy of a load at
the seams (dropped shingle bundles). The plywood decking is now buckled
and/or lifted up, and Bradley Enterprises roofed right over the damaged plywood, failing to
comply with our contract, and also the Village?s Building Code.
Ice and Water Shield (Weather Lock) is either
missing or not installed correctly on most of the roof.
Nailing: Many nails were not inserted into the shingle?s nailing strip correctly. Therefore
leaving exposed nails. Most nails were driven too deep (over penetration) and/or
angled causing damage to the shingles.
Drip Edge: They said they could re-use our old Drip
Edge but in the process damaged it. The drip edges
are now bent up causing the gable ends (rakes) to curl up exposing my gable ends, and
decking to wind driven rain, snow, and sleet.
Left Over Shingles: We asked to keep 2 of the
leftover (8 or 9) shingle bundles, the crew left the two
bundles outside, and then the salesman called back the next day and demanded
them back. Bradley would not allow us to keep any of the leftover shingles.
There are also many other instances of substandard poor workmanship.
Bradley Enterprises Inc has refused to correctly
repair the underlying damaged plywood decking, which would require the removal of
the whole poorly installed roofing system.
