We were extremely disappointed in not only the lack of professionalism in Ms. Kay Shelander but her business ethics as well. When we had interviewed her as a possibility to host the estate sale for our deceased parents estate she went over the terms and told us that she would be giving us receipts for all items sold at the two day sale. We showed her every room in the house and she said it would not be a problem. (Please understand my parents were married 65 years and had 5 children, they collected tons of stuff. They weren't hoarders, the home was clean just all the bedrooms that were no longer used had all kinds of decor, clothing, small furniture, etc. , my mother liked to decorate and my father appeased her). The garage was also full of boxed Christmas decor amongst other furniture pieces. She came in with her crew and told us we had to give her a key because she didn't want us in the house after she started...her reasoning was that it was a sentimental difficulty for the family. Well, we lived a block away and of course would check on the property regularly anyway because it was vacant. At times we witnessed her crew taking items to the van she came in and putting things into large black trash bags and taking them out, we cannot say that they were stealing because we were not given receipts as to what was sold so we have no way of knowing if they were paid for or not.. New items and some antiques we never saw again. When asked about items she sold (where were the receipts) she said I'm not giving you any receipts. What were we to think. Then she listed the sale in a very derogatory way saying it was a hoarders delight. Very insulting to people that your doing business for and that are already grieving over the loss of parents, Not professional at all. She finally came and said there was too much stuff so she would have to do another weekend sale as well at an additional cost of $1000.00 (why was this not said in the first place when you knew what you were getting into?) The items in the house were very poorly displayed and she was just marking items any random price...two of the same items would have grossly different pricing. For a woman that has supposedly been in this business for 30+ years she was extremely rude, very unprofessional, unethical and I shudder to think what else went on behind closed doors. Never again! I will never recommend her to anyone! By the way..... we held our very own Estate Sale at a later date and all that came in said how nicely it was clean and displayed and some even asked for our business card...imagine we're not even in the business. Many regulars of estate sales said what a poor estate sale rep Kay Shelander was, they told me to steer away from her...so no good words at all for Ms. Kay Shelander.
