I've had water leaking into the furnace circuit board three times. Each time cost me ~ $1000. I've repeatedly tried to find the source of this including having patching done to the roof. Greg was the first HVAC repair person to tell me the leak was likely coming from the furnace exhaust to the chimney which did not have a cap on it. So, the problem could be solved by a simple chimney cap. He is very experienced, knowledgeable, and thoughtful about the problem and the repair.

We chose Sutor over other bidders because of the uniformly good reviews of other local customers and the recommendation of Unico itself. Greg Sutor designed the system with a suspended attic air handler and some ingenious paths for the in-wall ducts and outlets on both floors of our two-story brick home. We opted to include an upgraded DC-drive fan motor and high efficiency media filter, with which we're very pleased. His workers were very professional, personable and competent, and finished the job on time, with no damage to our coved ceilings or plaster walls. We have had them back to inspect the system and change the filter annually since the installation, and continue to be pleased that we chose them in the first place. We recommend Sutor Heating and Cooling very highly.

After soliciting several bids, at least one of which had a lower cost estimate, we chose Sutor based on the recommendations of both several local customers and the Unico Corp. itself. We were very pleased with the installation, which provided creative solutions to finding workable between-the-walls tubular duct-work to hard to reach locations and included a couple of upgrades to a DC drive air handler and high efficiency media air cleaner. The installation went smoothly with very pleasant and professional installers. We have had the system for a couple of years now, are still very satisfied, and routinely have them back at the beginning of each cooling season to change filters and check the system performance.

Angie's List asked me to write a review for Sutor Heating so I'm writing one. Greg Sutor was recommended to us by our next door neighbor. We had him over the house to do an estimate to reroute and repair some heating pipe that was left behind by the previous owner that had long ago burst, so that we could restore heat to two rooms that didn't have it when we bought the house. Greg spent about 30 minutes here talking through the job, showed attentiveness and knowledge, gave a verbal estimate, and said he looked forward to beginning work in the coming weeks. Then I never heard from him again. Of the three contractors I met with I actually liked him the best, so I waited an extra few weeks and tried calling the office a couple of times. Never so much as a call back. I don't know why he decided he didn't want the job, but a simple response would have been nice. I would guess the job wasn't "big enough" for him. Overall, dealing with Sutor Heating was a big waste of my time. I suggest you look elsewhere to companies that respect their customers.

I talked to Greg Sutor about an estimate to install a Mitsubishi mini split AC system in our SFH. Sutor is a Diamond installer for Mitsubishi. I had a good conversation and we set up an appointment for a quote. The appointment was for April 24. A 1/2 hour before the scheduled appointment, I received a voice-mail message that Greg needed to cancel due to a "family emergency." I called back later and reschedule for May 4. I called on the morning of May 4 to confirm the appointment and received a call back confirming. The appointment was scheduled for 1:30pm. At 2pm, when Greg had not appeared, I called again to inquire if he was running late. I did not reach anyone live, but had to leave a voice-mail message. I called again around 2:30pm, but reached no one. In fact, no one from Sutor ever came or bothered to call back, that day or since. I know that Sutor is a well-regarded HVAC company and has many positive reviews on Angie's List. However, my experience was obviously not positive. I am writing this review to convey my displeasure and to inform other Angie's List members.

When we found a huge hole in the side of our chimney while coordinating our roof replacement, we started calling masonry companies for help.  They said we'd spend less money in the long run by replacing our appliances with direct vent options over attempting to repair the masonry and replace the failed chimney liner.
Greg came over and gave me an estimate for the replacement of the 25-year-old boiler and 6-year-old water heater that were currently venting through the chimney.   Greg carefully explained to me about different options available and agreed with the assessment by the masonry companies.  Greg went above and beyond to talk about the current problems we were having with our boiler and to explain the reasons behind them.
Greg's quote was very comprehensive and easily beat competitors.
When our roofers moved up their date to replace our roof and remove our chimney, I called Greg, absolutely frantic to get our HVAC project underway.  If we didn't get the HVAC project complete, we'd be living without heat or hot water as soon as the roofers removed our chimney!
Greg was very responsive and got his team here immediately. They worked two full days getting the new systems installed and were thoughtful about ensuring that the house was livable.  We didn't spend a night without heat or a morning without hot water. His team is great - very tidy, courteous, and considerate.
Our new system works great.  Could not have been easier to do business with.  I highly recommend Greg and his team.

Two-Flat: His 2015 work is in progress. He has been creative with great ideas, eager to help and is always willing to look at all options. He is very smart, thinks things thru, always looking ahead and proud of engineering energy efficient HVAC systems.
Townhouse: In 2002 my realtor recommend two long-established, highly rated Oak Park HVAC contractors for air-conditioning my just purchased 1903 townhouse. I wanted a SpacePak / Unico cooling system as the house is heated by radiators. One contractor refused to bid saying that they really could not install such a system and have it work properly. The other was willing to do the work, but said they would have to drop down the ceiling in my 2nd floor hallway. An ugly idea that would ruin the hallway. He was willing to do it, but said I might not be happy with the things they would have to do to get it in. The flat roof and shallow attic left insufficient room for installation.
Then I called Sutor for a quote on a different kind of system. Greg Sutor visited the townhouse and said we would be better off with a SpacePac or Unico system. (Huh? Two experts say it isn?t possible.) Sutor said it would be tight, and that they would  undoubtedly make a few openings in walls and ceilings that would have to be patched (working blind inside walls, etc., fishing tubes from the attic past the second floor to the 1st floor.). I really could not believe what he was saying -- that this was difficult but the kind of thing they do all the time. Still skeptical, I had him come out again to take another look to confirm his initial view.
A few weeks later the system was installed. The air exchanger hangs from the roof's rafters so that vibration is transmitted away from living areas. The system was sized to permit the coiling of the air delivery tubes in the attic to absorb sound. There were no extra holes anywhere. Nothing to be patched.
Thirteen years later the system is quiet and works great. Had I listened to the other contractors, I would have either a lousy system, ugly and expensive changes to the house or window air conditioners.
The high efficiency boiler works great and saves a lot of money on heating bills. I would recommend Sutor without reservation for any HVAC project.

Greg and his team did an amazing job getting a 400 lb unit installed on top of a 4 story building. They showed up when they said they would and installed everything flawlessly. I appreciated the owner being onsite and involved to make sure the tricky install went smoothly. Their prices were in range with other estimates, but their labor warranty was much better.
I highly recommend this company for any AC/heating needs!

I had three price quotes and Sutor Heating and Cooling offered us the best deal; a combination of price, expertise and quality of material. Greg was punctual and kept me informed of any schedule changes. His electricians were very polite and clean. They covered all our furnishing. When they were finished you couldn't tell that any work had been performed. I will truly use them again in the near future. It's refreshing to work with a company that keeps its word and stands behind their work.

I would like to recommend   Sutor Heating and Cooling. We had the last of many emergency furnace repairs a few weeks back and had always used the local guys, Riverside Heating & Cooling.  We asked them for a quote for a new furnace and it was $7,100.  It seemed high, and boy was it ever!   A friend of ours that lives in Roscoe Village recommended Greg Sutor, saying that everyone on their block uses him.  Well now we know why!
The Sutor quote was $4,675 for furnace parts & labor (Both quotes included 2 stage fan motor, Sutor's was 95% efficient w/a free wifi thermostat; the Local quote was 90% efficient, no extras)  Wow!    A savings of over $2,400!
And I have not even mentioned his (and his techs) professionalism.  They were clean, timely, efficient, and excellent communicators.  I never felt like I did not know what was going on.  He reinstalled our humidifier running the drip line into our utility sink (instead of outside where it was freezing) for no charge.  He cleaned the filters and showed me how to do it in the future, no charge, of course, because he is just that awesome!
We are happier with Greg's service than we have been with any other project we have done in our home.

The men were on time and worked hard all day.  They explained what they were doing when we wanted to know.  They finished the job in one day, working far past 8 hours.  They were courteous and knowledgeable.  The owner came and was professional and friendly.  He was quick to respond to a problem a couple weeks later. They cleaned up everything after they were done and disposed of all trash.  Really have nothing negative to say.

The whole-house air conditioning unit in our 85-year-old bungalow was approximately 30 years old, and despite regular maintenance had failed; it had been too small for the house from the start, and poorly installed.  Corrosion and general compressor failure, coupled with its being undersized, led to the decision to replace the entire system.
We solicited quotes from several vendors, including Sutor on recommendation from our sister- and brother-in-laws, who were highly complementary.  They were not wrong.
Greg came out to survey our home.  He clearly enjoyed his work, was quite knowledgeable, thorough in his inspection and once he found that I was interested in discussing technical details, quite willing to discuss options, issues, and costs.  Particularly as the previous owner hadn't allowed much room for the in-house coil/exchanger, it was a challenge to both boost the unit capacity and to fit in the limited space, but Greg not only found a unit but was able to shoehorn it in with a maintainable and professional installation.
His field technicians were prompt, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable in their fields.  The work was carried out quickly with a minimum of disruption and mess, and they cleaned up neatly afterward.
Finally, he's available not only for any followup questions and problems, but just to discuss HVAC-related questions and ideas.  And when my BiL's furnace failed to start during the frigid weather in Chicago in January, 2013, while he was out of town--and I was watching his house for him--Greg himself answered the 800 emergency call on Sunday night.  (Incidentally, it wasn't a problem with the furnace he'd installed--the gas company had somehow let air get into the lines.  We were able to walk through a purge and restart over the phone.)
Greg's price wasn't the cheapest offered, but frankly, the others were unreasonably--unbelievably--low, while his corresponded with what I could find about the costs of the unit and materiel.  His company will most assuredly be the one I turn to when it's time to replace our 30+ year-old furnace.  It's a true pleasure to encounter someone who's enthusiastic, intelligent, knowledgeable, and committed to their work, and has employees who embody the same attributes.

I  had trouble with my Unico attic unit, and I had spent hundreds of dollars with another company on Angie's List, and they could not solve the problem.    They told me I needed an entirely new unit.  I sensed that the other company was incompetent, so I called the manufacturer's rep and asked them for someone knowledgeable about Unico, and the rep recommended Greg Sutor.  He came out, looked at the problem, adjusted the drainage pan, and the unit has worked flawlessly since.

Greg Sutor is very knowledgeable about heating and cooling.  I have an engineering degree, and I know enough about the science behind the systems to know that he wasn't lying/exaggerating about the unites he proposed.  He didn't try to 'up-sell' us into more efficient but far more expensive air conditioners that could never save enough to pay for the extra cost.  They were reasonably priced, and they included a 5 year labor warranty.

I have used Sutor Heating and Cooling for many years and have always been pleased with their service.  This time they exceeded my expectations as I called them back on a Sunday a couple weeks after my initial service call when the AC unit again was not working.  I left a message on their emergency pager number, and I heard back from the owner, Greg Sutor, on a Sunday morning.  Within one hour he came to my condo.  When he came out, he found out that a fuse was blown so the circuit breaker needed to be turned back on. He checked the recently replaced filter (two weeks prior) and shockingly it was in need of changing it again.  Due to my condo renovation there was more in the air than usual and this caused the unit to shut down.  The owner came on a Sunday at no charge since I had paid for a recent service call.  I won't ever use another Heating and Cooling Company as long as Sutor Heating and Cooling in Oak Park are in business!  They are true professionals!

Our furnace died and it was extremely cold out.We had used Sutor before a couple times in the past for minor furnace repair, so we gave them a call.Greg Sutor came out and assessed the situation and we needed to get a replacement ASAP.He brought out a couple space heaters for us, and we scheduled them to replace our furnace the day after our first meeting.

Greg is very professional and did a solid job of explaining our options.

His guys showed up on time and were able to replace the furnace within 4-5 hours.

He also came back a month later to make sure everything was fine tuned with the variable fan, and take care of a small issue with the thermostat.

Great overall experience - I would recommend these guys to anyone.

Greg Sutor came to my house, looked at my old system, gave his recommendations, was highly professional, sent me his quote with which I was very pleased but have since decided not to replace the system. If I do, I will be calling Greg and giving him my business.
