"I performed an on site assessment of Ms. McGown's (Resendes) residence in September 2018. Ms. McGown declined the offer of a written report at that time. She indicated she was very pleased with our services and sent this email: "Thanks for coming out last week! I am now sleeping better and not thinking every little issue is my house falling down! Please let me know how much I owe you and how to pay." There was also no request for a written report in that correspondence. On October 5, 2018 Ms McGown was emailed an invoice for $467.50 which included travel time as is our policy, (as has been stated on our Angie's list profile). Ms. McGown did not pay her bill, and so a reminder was sent in March 2019. When she questioned the charge for travel time, I politely explained why it would not be possible for any engineer to spend nearly two hours of travel time for a 50 minute appointment, and bill only for the appointment. My response was: "[Member Name Removed] – Thanks for your reply. The invoice also included my time for travel to and from the job site, as I stated on the invoice. I bill for travel separately rather than have a set price for a house call because my travel time varies so much – from a 5 minute local trip in Oak Park, to more than an hour to places like Joliet. Travel times obviously vary by time of day and are generally longer at the time of day when you scheduled your appointment. I recorded 50 minutes travel to the site, 50 minutes on site, 55 minutes return, and 10 minutes reviewing and responding to your email query. " In order to finally obtain payment, I spent an additional hour preparing a written summary of my observations (which was declined at the time of my visit and thus not included on the invoice), in exchange for which she agreed to pay the original invoice. The summary was sent July 2019. Receiving such a negative review a year later, after having made such good faith effort to resolve the issue, may speak more to the reviewer's character than mine."
