Our garage in Chicago is on an alley and because the city repaves alleys by building up the asphalt layers, our garage floor was below the level of the alley. Whenever it rained our garage would flood. Last winter was a particular problem with the freeze-thaw cycles turning our garage into a small skating rink. We decided we wanted to raise the level of our garage floor to avoid this problem in the future. We contacted several firms in May and decided to go with Bald Eagle Construction. The other firms seemed to think that our project was too small for them and suggested all sorts of solutions that were expensive and would have questionable results. Bald eagle's price was very reasonable and they understood what we were looking for. They also warned us that it would be 2 to 3 months before they could get to us, but that worked out okay for us. We were notified late in August of our actual start date the following week. I can't speak highly enough of the crews that did the actual work. The demolition crew was there at the time specified and worked very efficiently to cut out the existing floor. They used a small bobcat to haul the refuse out to the street where they had a dump truck parked. They never blocked the alley or the street to do the work - unlike a lot of contractors who work in our neighborhood. They were also very quiet, which is amazing when you consider that they were using jack hammers to cut out the floor. They put down and leveled a layer of crushed stone and then lay out steel wire to reinforce the concrete. The next day the pouring crew arrived, again at the promised hour and began laying the new floor. They briefly had to block the alley to allow the concrete truck in to complete the pour, but they had the truck in and out in less than 15 minutes. The crew did an excellent job on the new floor. It looks so good that my wife was taking pictures of it. The crews cleaned up the work site completely when they were finished. We are now two months post-completion and are extremely pleased. We have had several heavy rains and have not had any water coming under the door. The slope of the floor even allows for drainage of water dripping off of our car. We highly recommend Bald Eagle Construction for concrete pouring and repairs. They were professional, timely and very skilled in the work they did for us. They even gave us an Angie's List discount AND seniors discount of the quoted price!

I needed a new porch because the corners had begun to crumple at the corners that support the rails. I contacted Kevin at Bald Eagle Construction because he had done work for me before, and I knew them to be excellent. Kevin went to the house (an income property home) and sent me an estimate. We discussed it, came up with a final figure, and agreed he would do the work. He called me a few days before they were going to do the work, and let me know when they would start. I wish I could say all went well, but we had a wrinkle. The mail carrier decided to toss the mail on the porch and put a ding in the new porch. I called Kevin, and he told me that patching cement was tricky, but the guy went out and tried. He did a rather horrible job, so I called Kevin who told me that it would get better over time. I think Kevin didn?t understand how bad it really was, so I sent him a photo. They were out the next day, and it looks much, much better. I mention this to highlight Kevin?s willingness to fix a problem. I don?t think he knew how bad it was when I initially expressed serious concerns. But I think that picture was worth a thousand words. And he responded.

Kevin made an appointment and was very prompt and professional. He talked to me about options for expanding the driveway so it met our garage. He had a proposal to us the next day. My husband was concerned about how it would look as it wasn't a typical requested shape, Kevin drew out a plan so he could see what it would look like. The start date was 5 weeks out, we were pleased when they were able to get us in early. The crew showed up 7AM and went to work removing the old driveway. They finished in the same day. Were very professional. They had to remove quite a bit of old concrete and grade below, so the bobcat left a lot of soil ground into our remaining driveway that was difficult to remove. There was a one day delay because of rain, which was fine with us, they came and completed everything the next day. They came back 3 days later and removed the forms and sealed the driveway. We were pleased with the result and would use them again!

Kevin and his team at Bald Eagle Construction were amazing. They came out to provide an estimate. They went to put a patch on the leaky spot but because the damage was so bad they moved my project to top priority. Kevin and his foreman were in constant communication with me. His crew was really nice and they cleaned up after themselves really well. A roof is not a project anybody wants to do but if it's needed, these guys really make it a great experience.

We are very pleased with the finished product of the porch and sidewalk. We have received several comments from neighbors on how nice it makes the front of the house look. The owner is professional and the work that was completed appears to be quality work. We would use this company again if we have additional needs in the future. With that said, I do want to share a couple comments on a few things that could have went smoother or just share my suggestions to improve the overall experience for customers. My husband was able to contact and schedule the appointment for an estimate with the President, Kevin Woods, fairly quickly. He was very professional and submitted a written estimate within days via email. The price was higher than other estimates we had received and we were just getting ready for a vacation, so we waited a couple months to think about our options. Once we decided that we wanted to move forward, my husband contacted Kevin again to let him know that we wanted to go foward with the work. We were disappointed that Kevin advised that he would have to complete a revised estimate as it had only been a few months (May 12 - Aug 11). Kevin stated that this was due to an increase in the amount of work for that period. His new estimate came in approximately $490 more than the original. We decided to forego the rear patio and just move forward with the porch/sidewalk. Kevin did a good job of communicating a start day; however, he did so via email which we rarely check. We had given him my husband's personal email account so that he could send the estimate, but didn't realize that this would be used to commmunicate all future correspondence. When the contractors showed early one Friday morning, we were completely surprised as we hadn't seen the 2 emails that Kevin had sent earlier in the week advising us that they were coming. This is not a huge deal, but we would have preferred communications to come via phone calls so that we could be alerted more timely. The last comment I have is that after the work was complete, we started to pull out some old plants next to the new porch and found that the contractors had dumped alot of cement debris into our plant bed area. In addition, there was a lot of the debris next to our sidewalk as well. This will require a lot of work to clean up which we are't too happy about. In the end, we still are very happy with the finished product and would definately use Bald Eagle again for our concrete needs.

We are happy to communicate with our customers either by phone or email. Until the reading of this Angie's List report, it was never communicated to Bald Eagle that the preferred method of communication was phone. In fact, our initial communication was to send the proposal via email (to the email address to the Member) as provided to us by the Member. We then followed up by email with the 3 day Right of Recission form also via email.

Overall the workmen did a great job. Their work was neat and they left my yard clean, with everything put away at the end if the work day. The only complaint is that the work crew showed up 45 minutes later than expected, but the work was still completed on time. It seems like they are a very busy company, and although you do have to leave messages, Kevin always called/emailed me back in a reasonable time frame.

s It went really well. Everything was great starting with our first encounter with Kevin Wood, the owner. He came out and told us exactly what he proposed to do. He sent us a written quote telling us exactly what the plan was, he lead us through the process of getting permits, architectural drawings, etc. We set a date and the crew arrived on time as promised and had the two story porch dismantled in about 4 hours. The porch took about a week all together to put up - we had some rain-out days, and turned out great. We had a problem with the materials and looks of an enclosure on the ground level and Kevin came out and told us what he could do to improve it. The crew came back today and finished the work. The porches look great and the roof really adds to the entire usefullness and looks of the porches. The job was done professionally; Daniel and his crew were easy to work with. Everything was built on-site, no ready made pieces were used. The workmanship was really exceptional. We love our new porches and would recommend this company to anyone.

This was a pretty thorough company. I did not go with them due to the city Morton Grove laying concrete down for the sidewalks. By them doing this, Bald Eagle could not guarantee that they wouldn?t crack the driveway. A negative part about this experience was that I never heard a response with after I told them I would not need their services

I manage a 6 unit condo building in Wrigleyville. We had an old. cracked walkway along the side of the building as well as a small patio area. Much of the old concrete had cracked and shifted and was no longer even. We wanted to widen the existing 2' walkways to 3' to accommodate for ADA and current codes, as well as increase the size of the small patio area so that it would be more usable. In addition, we discovered a potentially dangerous situation-- one of the cracks/openings revealed a hollow area underneath the cracked sidewalk, about 12" deep, which we determined was due to washout from a cracked pipe that connected the building's downspout to the catch basin. Price wise, I felt that the bid was a fair and reasonable. Not the lowest priced bid, but knowing that we had the existing downspout issue, I believe that we were better off with a general contractor than someone who was a "concrete only" vendor. From the time the contract was signed and a deposit placed with the vendor, to the time the work was completed, took just over 6 weeks. We waited approximately a month until the contractor could schedule the work for us-- a combination of the weather and fitting us in with the rest of their jobs. Once the job started and the existing concrete was demo'd, the contractor determined that the cracked pipe was a larger issue than they could repair, so we had to stop the project for about a week wile I brought in a licensed plumber to complete the necessary repairs. Once that was completed, they returned to pour the new concrete within a matter of days. The workers were professional, cleaned up all debris and left the work area clean after the demo. Once the concrete was set they came back and removed the forms and the new walkways and patio look great! Kevin was nice to work with and kept open lines of communication at all times. I would DEFINITELY use them for concrete work again, and look forward to using them for other construction as well.

When the company finally called me back this morning, the person that called me was very rude. He asked me my name, phone number, address, etc. Then I was asked to explain the reason for my call. My husband and I need a completely new roof (tear off) siding and a new porch built. I was trying to explain all that when I was told "Would you please be quiet and let me talk" or something to that effect. The last thing I said was "let's please end this call, we're obviously not a good fit for each other". Don't call Bald Eagle, you'll be sorry. I only gave them an opportunity to give me an estimate based on Angie's List reviews. I'm sorry I waited for them to return my call. I should have moved on this morning before attempting one more time to reach out to them.

Response from Bald Eagle Construction
The member left a voice-mail for us to give her a call while we were closed. Bald Eagle Construction was closed from Thursday August 28th thru Monday (Labor Day). We close every year at this time for a vacation. I (Kevin Wood/Owner) personally returned the call (while on vacation) and left a message on her voice mail. The member called again and left a message, which was again returned by me (while on vacation) and I left a message. When we opened again on Tuesday morning, we received an exasperated message from the member stating that she should not have to call us back. I was able to return the call within minutes to the member. I asked the member for address, name etc. Throughout this exchange the member was clearly agitated, short and terse. I went through the same series of questions we cover on every potential estimate call. Once I received the basic information I then attempted ask some general questions regarding her specific project. It seemed the member had multiple potential projects. I needed to determine the scope of the projects to determine whether each project was something we could estimate for the member. I was not allowed to complete even the 1st question to the member as I was interrupted 5 or 6 times. I finally had to talk over the member and ask, "Would you please extend the courtesy of allowing me to complete my sentence?" It is my opinion that the member was clearly frustrated before our conversation even started, and as such, carried that attitude into our conversation. Bald Eagle Construction appreciates all calls we receive from Angie's List members, but please understand we are going to ask questions which relate to their specific project before we schedule a site visit.

Mr. Mackowiak got to my home about 1:15 pm. I showed him the ceiling in the bedroom closet. By this time, there are three stains and water dripped on the floor. Not having gone on the roof yet, his attitude was that this was not a roofing issue. Mr. Mackowiak, myself and my adult son went outside. We showed him large pieces of roofing shingles in my neighbor's yard. He went to his vehicle and got a small fold up ladder and leaned it against my building. He had me walk with him to the street where he pointed out to me the section of my roof that shingles were missing from. Mr. Mackowiak never went on top of the roof ! He said he didn't have a tall enough ladder. He told me to call Kevin Wood around 4pm that evening for an estimate of what repairs to my roof would be because this was a weather event. He also suggested that I call my insurance company. By the way, it was state farm that paid for this roof in 2011. I called Mr. Wood and I left a message concerning a possible cost to me. He returned my call around 4:30 pm that day. He told me that the issue with my roof was due to a weather event and that I would have to bare the cost of repairs. . He emailed me an estimate that evening for $3330.00. Monday, 08/25/2014, another roofing company came to my home and they inspected my roof. They checked the inside of my home and they went on the roof. They brought down large pieces of roofing shingles. They showed me where the nail gun that Bald Eagle used, push the nails all the way through the shingles, therefore compromising the shingles. They also said that this could have occurred due to a weather event. However he said it was clear to him that it was more so due to poor workmanship. They said that about 5ft by 3ft of shingles were missing. They charged me $375.00 to repair my roof. The roof was repaired the on 08/25/2014. I feel that the way Bald Eagle Construction, Inc. responded to my roofing issue was totally rude and unprofessional! Now I am left hoping the interior of my home is not compromised as far as mold or electrical work. The leak went all the way into the basement, all because of poor work.
Description of Work: On Monday, 08/04/2014 at 2:07 pm, I spoke with Kevin Wood of Bald Eagle Construction concerning a possible roof leak. This company installed my roof in august of the year 2011. They did a complete tear off and they repaired my chimney. The entire cost for this was about $7300. The reason I phoned Mr. Wood on 08/04/2014 was because I suspected a stain on the ceiling of a bedroom closet to be a water stain and there were roofing shingles in my neighbor's yard that were completely adjacent to where the damage was to my roof. Mr. Wood was very insensitive and rude to my concern. He told me very rudely that if they came out and it wasn't a roofing issue, he was going to charge me. He suggested that I keep an eye on the suspected water stain and if anything else occurred for me to give him a call. Well something else did occur. On 08/21/2014, the roof leaked all the way to basement. I gave him a call. He never returned my call. The next morning, a Mr. Mackowiak of Bald Eagle Construction called my home and said he was from the company and that he would be out to my home that afternoon to inspect the roof. I called Mr. Wood to get verification of who Mr. Mackowiak was. I left a message requesting this information from Mr. Wood. He never called me back. Mr. Mackowiak called me about the message I left, therefore , I knew he was with the company.

This is my second time using Bald Eagle Construction. They replaced my garage roof last summer, and when I discovered they also did concrete work, I immediately called Kevin, without even seeking another estimate. Bald Eagle is one of the most professional and responsive contractors I have ever dealt with. The concrete work was finished much more quickly than I anticipated. The work is flawless. The prices may seem a bit high, but with the Angie's List and senior discounts, they are very competitive. It's hard to imagine that anyone would be disappointed using Bald Eagle for any type of work.

I had hired Bald Eagle a couple years ago to do my roof. They had done a great job and I have had no issues with it. When I was looking for someone to do my front stairs and siding on my garage I saw that they also do this. Since they had done such a good job on my roof I requested them to quote these jobs as well. They were competitive in their quotes, and knowing the quality of their work I hired them. I was not dissappointed. Kevin is very professional and easy to work with. He readily answers questions and is honest in his responses. Once the job is started his guys continue to work on it until it is completed. The quality of their work is excellent. I would not hesitate to hire them again or recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: Garage siding/gutter and side door & new front stairs and masonry repair.
