I did not use him, but not because he did not seem wonderful. He did. And I think his quote was reasonable. He arrived on time and did a complete inspection of the job. He promptly sent a very professional quote. I changed my timeline and scope for the project, and it is still not done. Bald Eagle will be in the bidding for the, now larger project.

It went very well. Kevin came out promptly for an estimate. His was the best of the three contractors I interviewed. He kept me informed at all times of the progress or delays. The installation was done on a timely basis. The end result was what we had hoped for.

Excellent job! They were very good about paying close attention to the details involved in completing a quality job. They really did excellent work. The contract price was good also.
Description of Work: Demolish Concrete Steps and Replace
I left a voicemail for Bald Eagle to request an estimate for concrete repair on the front steps of my home. I did receive a prompt call back, but the person who called informed me Bald Eagle does not do concrete work or repair. This is very confusing because the services described on the Angie's List page says this: "Services Include Concrete work. Masonry. Tuck pointing. Roofing. Gutters. Decks. Siding. Windows. Porches. Driveways. Walkways. Patios. Basement remodeling. Garages. Electrical. Plumbing." There is also a coupon being offered for $150 off of Concrete pouring and repair at the time of this review. Bald Eagle - if you're calling people and telling them that you don't do concrete work or repair you need to remove it from the description in the services you provide. This is misleading and confusing.

Response from Bald Eagle Construction
Angie's List has a category which is called "Concrete Pouring and Repair" The member found us by searching that category. Bald Eagle Construction definitely does concrete work. However, Bald Eagle does not perform repair work on concrete. Bald Eagle performs concrete replacement. The member asked us if we could provide an estimate for repair of her existing concrete. We informed the Member that we do not offer that service and so would not be able to provide an estimate.
They were punctual but upon taking a quick look at the sidewalk determined that the job was too small to bid on. I was told that they generally do not take jobs involving less than 350 square feet. The sidewalk we needed replaced is only about 130 square feet. When we discussed on the phone before setting up the estimate I only explained that I needed a sidewalk along the side of the condo building replaced and did not provide dimensions (nor was I asked for them). When I explained that it would have been helpful to know their policy before taking off work to meet the provider for the estimate, I was told they can only work with the information they are given. I noted that the following appears on their website without mention of a minimum requirement: "Chicago concrete tends to be a ?big? business: big trucks, big jobs, big prices. As a homeowner, your residential concrete project deserves just as much attention as the big industrial and commercial contracts targeted by most concrete companies. As licensed and insured residential concrete contractors in Chicago, Bald Eagle Construction can provide the same level of quality and service as a commercial company, without the industrial grade price tag. Whether you are looking for a small patio or a large driveway, your concrete job is guaranteed to get the respect it deserves." Based on this I made sure to ask about minimum square footage requirements when setting up other estimates and did not run into the same issue elsewhere, so if you're looking for someone to do a small job make sure to ask about this.

We visited this Member on July 17th. I am pleased to say that on August 17th we added a new "small projects" crew which now allows us to bid projects as small as 200 sq. ft. (limited terrritory). Unfortunately we still would not be able to bid this Member's project as it is 130 sq. ft.

This review is a long time coming. We had our roof replaced in October 2012. The beginning was great. Kevin Wood ( the owner) was very prompt and personal with our estimate and time of project completion. He and his crew did a very professional job with our roof as far as completion and clean up. The problems began a few weeks later when it began to rain. We have two vent stacks, one on each side of the roof. Both of them leaked around the stacks into the attic. I called Kevin and in the beginning he was very professional and responsive to our issues. His foreman Remik came out several times (in the end 6 times) to try and repair the leaks around our vent stacks. They did finally repair one of the two stacks so it stopped leaking. The second vent stack was never fixed and I spoke with Mr. Wood regarding the issue for the last time on the phone in September 2013. Yes 1 year later! He was verbally rude with several curse words towards me and told me that this was not a roofing problem. "It is a plumbing problem." Our roof only started leaking after the roof was replaced, but we contacted a plumber anyway. I have it in writing that it is NOT a plumbing problem. That being said I contacted a different roofing company who fixed the leak around the vent stack the first time they came out. Fast forward to winter of 2014, my roof is less than 3 years old. We developed another leak at the corner of the dormer. I did not contact Mr Kevin Wood due to his severe lack of professionalism at our last conversation. We went with the same company that repaired the second vent stack leak. They came out and repaired all four corners of both dormers because on inspection they stated it was shoddy roofing work, usually done when cutting corners. After the other company's repair of Bald Eagle's work, the dormer has not leaked to date. So in 3 years I have paid an additional $1000 to fix his mistakes. I am aware that my roof comes with a guarantee, BUT I will not be taking advantage of the guarantee and will never use Bald Eagle again. I recommend that no one use his service.

In my 15 years of ownership of Bald Eagle (and 30 yrs in the business) I have never used a profane word to any customer, crew member, office worker or anyone at Bald Eagle Construction or anyone related to the everyday operations at my company. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to keep someone from posting misstatements, inaccuracies or untruths. Our foreman took pictures of the water standing in the vent stacks (multiple times) to demonstrate to the Member that this was a plumbing problem. As to the dormer issue, as the Member accurately details, Bald Eagle never received a call from the Member to go check it out in order to remedy it. My reading of this review is the first mention we have received of it. It seems this Member would like to have it both ways. The assertion is made that Bald Eagle does not stand behind our work. It is pretty difficult to stand behind your work when we are not informed of a problem and thus the chance to remedy the situation. My name is Kevin Wood. I am the owner of Bald Eagle Construction and we have always stood behind our warranty. We literally have installed over 1000 roofs in the Chicago land area and in any given year we will receive 15-20 calls from our previous customers for warranty work. We answer everyone of those calls and remedy anything that might be even remotely related to the work that we performed. In fact, our foreman are instructed to go overboard, even if it is not a problem we created or could have prevented. Warranty service work is part of our package and has probably earned us more business through referrals than any amount of $ we have ever spent on advertising.

This is my second time working with Kevin from Bald Eagle Construction. The first time I used Kevin I also had 3 other estimates and his was the best pricing and service. Last year his team did an awesome job replacing my roof, so I decided to use him again. I contacted Kevin again this year to do my masonry work. He was quick to stop by to provide me with an estimate. He walked around my property with me showing me the areas that needed work. He provided me with an estimate with options to do all the work at once or in 2-stages to work within my budget. His pricing and discounts were so reasonable I decided to do complete project in one stage. He and his team are always professional, on time and go above and beyond to make sure I'm satisfied with the result. I highly recommend his team and would work with him again for projects in the future.

Went very well. Kevin was able to provide a quote quickly, which was important as we had noticed water damage in a bedroom due to the state of the old chimney. Bald Eagle's quote was very competitive and was the only one that both the chimney rebuild and the flashing. (I received two other quotes.) The work was able to be scheduled in a couple of weeks and was completed in one day. The finished product looks excellent.

The work was very efficient. The work foreman was very professional. They cleaned up everything that needed to be done. My husband and I were very pleased. My only complaint was once the contract was signed we were not informed about when the work might start and if they were having trouble getting the permit. We did eventually hear when the work was to begin and was keep up to date on the different phase of the work. We will use Bald Eagle construction again.

I spoke with Kevin on Friday afternoon. We're in the middle of a house purchase and the inspection noted significant issues. We're under serious time pressure and Kevin agreed to come to the property Monday morning to give us an estimate for roof and masonry repairs. He told me (despite his web site saying estimates are free) that I needed to send him a confirmation email that I accepted a $75 charge for the estimate. Fine. I'm under time pressure. I told him I needed to put together an email that would list all the issues I wanted him to look at (I had to go through the 200+ page inspection report to find them all). I sent the email to him on Saturday afternoon before 5pm. Then, Monday (this) morning at 6:14am, Kevin emailed to say that because he didn't receive the email on Saturday before *noon*, he won't be coming out and asked if I wanted to reschedule for the middle of the following week. SERIOUSLY? There's no good reason for him not to come out other than this guy's grumpiness or perhaps he's not interested in the project. I'm now in a lurch and have to find someone new VERY quickly. By the time Kevin can "fit" me into his schedule, I'll need to have made a final decision about this house. No thanks. Not telling me about the Saturday noon deadline in advance and then telling me at the last minute he won't be at the house in 3 hours is unprofessional.

Response from Bald Eagle Construction
Bald Eagle Construction provides estimates free of charge to homeowners. We explained to the Member that there was a charge associated for the estimate if they are not the owner of the property (that has been our policy for 15 years). We also explained to the Member that if eventually purchased the home, and hired us, Bald Eagle would credit the credit back to the Member the charge for the estimate. The member agreed. As is also our policy, (when we are performing an estimate on a property for someone who is not the owner of the property) Bald Eagle requires that we receive an email acknowledging that we are doing an estimate for someone who is not the owner of the property, and explaining their relationship/affiliation/interest in the property. The member agreed. The member waited to respond for more than 24 hours after our conversation and 4 hours past our posted closing time (Noon) for Saturdays. When our office closed on Saturday and we had not received confirmation from the Member, it becomes our foreman's responsibility to make sure that our resources (people / equipment / vehicles ) are used efficiently and effectively for the next business day, which in this case was Monday. Our foreman did exactly what he is charged to do and scheduled accordingly for Monday. I came into the office on Monday morning at 6:00 am and immediately started checking emails. When I discovered the Member's email from Saturday (after we had closed). I immediately contacted our foreman to see if there was any way to re-shuffle to accommodate the Member's late confirmation request. Our foreman explained it was not possible and I emailed the Member by 6:14 am to notify them. Because of this negative experience, we are seriously considering changing our estimating services policy so that it will limited to owners of the property only.
Kevin showed an incredible amount of patience with my requirements and adapted the project to the oddities of my front stairs. His diligence managing my expectations and, most importantly, helping me navigate my village contorted, to say the least, building requirements deserve mention in this review. The crew came on a Saturday and worked fast without missing a bit. They managed to save my wife's slow growth plants which were directly under the stairs. (Thank you from my wife!!!) My stairs have a very old (probably 80 years old) railing to which the stairs needed to be attached. If you see the job, you think they removed the railing and put it back on after the stairs were finished (impossible since it's been attached to concrete from inception), simply remarkable. Just mention one detail of how everything went, when I mentioned Lucas (the foreman) that we were not planning on painting the steps and that one of the boards had a very ugly mark which would be there for years, he did not even hesitate, pulled the board out immediately, and turned it around. That's customer service, it cost 5 mins of his time but we will be thankful for months.

The job was started on 6-10-15. On the day of the job and just before starting the actual roof "tear-off" one of the crew, Piotr, alerted me to the fact that the roofing material was stuck to the plywood and that all the plywood had to be replaced, this was not the plan originally. (At a later date I questioned Kevin Wood, the owner, as to why this wasn't deduced at the time of the original quote by his foreman, he did not respond.) This was an additional $2,000 expense. I approved the change because I wanted an "A" job on the roof. The workers "finished" the entire job at about 2:30 in the afternoon. I went out to look at the job just after they left and was astonished to find that the fascia was very wavy throughout and the corner joints were improperly connected with large gaps at the corners (filled with caulk). The vertical joints did not line up with each other from one piece of horizontal aluminum to the other. A few days prior to the start of the job I spoke with Kevin Wood's foreman, Remick and showed him how I was expecting the fascia to come out because on a recent house addition another contractor executed it to near perfection. Upon further inspection I found that the wrong colored nails had been used to attach the aluminum. When I questioned the foreman, Remick, he asked the crew member who said " I got the closest color because they didn't have the musket brown color that went with the aluminum". I then went inside the garage to find that the plywood in at least two places was not nailed to the rafters thus the nails were simply popping thru the bottom of the plywood. They did come out and correct one occurrence of this but just recently I found more places where this was also poorly nailed. I hope this poorly nailed plywood does not cause the roof to fail prematurely. The garage lights were NEVER re-attached so I had to re-attach them myself. In general the work area was NOT left clean and I had to take out my Shop Vac to vacuum the area because they left shards of aluminum throughout and I was afraid my 11 month old Yellow Lab puppy would ingest them. Other remnants of their work included chipping the paint of my garage door and globs of caulk on my garbage cans was evident. By the way, I have photographs of all of this and it is too bad, given today's technology, that Angie's List does not have a system in place to allow for the upload of photos. I expected an "A" job from Bald Eagle Construction but I did not get one. Remick, the foreman, kept on telling me that they would do the fascia over again but on the last day they came (6-24-15) out to paint the roof surface he changed his mind and said "Mr. Kevin will credit you for the fascia, he will talk with you". There was no negotiation involved, Kevin Wood sent a "Final Invoice" but I had some questions about how he arrived at the calculations for the un-quoted plywood. Obviously I was perturbed by the quality of the job because I paid for an "A" job and did not receive an "A" job. Kevin Wood came out to speak with me personally about the "Final Invoice" and he was not a pleasant man, suffice it to say that I just wanted to be done with him and his construction company. I got the impression that Bald Eagle construction is not out to please it's customers but out to make as much money as fast as possible, going from one job to the next. I should have read the reviews more thoroughly because some of them do hint as to the personality traits of this man. Suffice it to say that I would never hire this company to do any work on my Oak Park home again.

What the homeowner and our foreman did not know prior to the actual start of the project, was that the existing roofing material had been glued to the decking (plywood). The only way to discover this was by removing the roofing material at the start of the project. Once we discovered this (the 1st 30 minutes of the project) we immediately called the homeowner and it was explained to the homeowner that it would not be possible to separate the old roofing material from the decking underneath. It was explained to the member that it would be necessary to tear off all the original decking and install new plywood. The homeowner agreed and said to proceed with the project and approved the additional charges. The replacement cost per sq. ft. was quoted on the contract which we provided to the homeowner. Not only did the contract state in plain terms what the replacement cost would be, but prior to signing the contract, the Member emailed us to ask if his math on computing replacement cost for the plywood was correct. We confirmed that it was and the Member signed the contract. Clearly no one likes it when costs in a project reveal themselves after the start of the project and the project becomes more expensive than originally anticipated. As a final consideration, what the member does not mention here is that none of the other estimates (provided by our competitors) detected that the roofing membrane had been glued to the wood. The unhappiness here should be directed at the contractor who installed his garage roof years ago. Rather than debate with the homeowner about the aesthetics of the trim coil we installed, we gave him a 100% credit back on the price of the trim coil. Bald Eagle installed a good roof for the member and we are sorry the price ended up being higher than anyone anticipated or could have predicted.

Kevin Wood from Bald Eagle gave me a thorough estimate with lots of references. He's done quite a few homes in the Oak Park and River Forest areas. He answered my questions promptly. Ours is a fairly big job, and his crew finished everything in 3 days. They showed up every day around 7am. At the end of the job, they did a good job cleaning up. For masonry we contacted Bald Eagle Construction. I know he is close by as he came right by after work one day. He took a look around and this wasn't something that he normally did. He did masonry and construction work but the way our house is, this is an old brick bungalow, and it is masonry, plus the cement and depending on how everything has been figured you have to possibly do things underneath the stairs and all that. He said that he wasn't equipped to do all of that things and wasn't really familiar with it at that point. I appreciated the honesty. Some people won't tell you the truth that they have never done something like that. It was for basic masonry but we needed tuck pointing and something like that. For this maybe you have to be aware of leaking, you don't want any leaking going into the basement and that kind of stuff. He walked around and went underneath the basement and showed me all the little things that go into that and he has never done anything quite that way. He noted that it was a lot more into it than just taking down old brick and putting up new. He wasn't comfortable doing it that way because that way you do have to be aware of possibility of leakage. He was very nice. He sent out his cement guy to take a look at it and they said that they would not be able to do it because they have never done something like that. He was very upfront and he said that he hadn't done anything like this before. He wanted to look around and see what needed to be done but he knew that it was going to be a job for someone who was really experienced in this and it had to be done right. The stairs had to be right and the brick had to be a certain way just to prevent any leakage into the basement. The responsiveness was very good. I talked to him and the same day he came right out. He seems to be close by in the Park area. I talked to him one day and he came right out to look around. He was very straight and upfront about everything. He looked at the job and told me what he thought needed to be done. He said that his construction company didn't do things exactly like that. It was more of straight forward construction and tuck pointing and that sort of thing and not rebuilding things. His punctuality was very good. He came the same day. I called him and he came that evening after work and that was very nice.

I received a quote via email as expected about three or four days after Kevin came out to our home to look at the situation. He included in his email the quote for service, a list of references, the companies license and so on. I was very impressed. I called about two weeks after I received the quote to schedule the job. Kevin told me that he would have to squeeze me in because the calendar was booked up through the end of June. He told me he wasn't going to really be able to give me an advanced notice and I said okay. He called me on a Friday, May 1st to tell me that the crew would be out on Saturday, May 2 between 8:00A.M. and 9:00A.M. I waited until about 9:30 and then I called Kevin because no one had showed up. He stated that the company vehicle had broken down and he apologized and told me he would get back to me. I received a call/email on Tuesday May 5th informing me that the crew would be out around lunch time to complete the job (it was a half day worth of work). They arrived as promised and did an excellent job!I am very pleased.

The job was done very quickly and professionally. The decking was in much better shape than expected so we saved a little bit of money from the estimate. It was discovered that the roof had a layer of slate which was a ton more work. Several tons in fact but Bald Eagle stuck to their bid for the job and hauled it all away. Remy our foreman was amazing. Very good communication both voice calls and texting pictures and updates. He was on top of the weather and quickly made adjustments so that the job could start as soon as possible. He was very professional and was very interested in making sure that we were fully informed of all the developments as they came. I highly recommend him and his entire team. Everything went really well. The crews arrived on time to perform all of the work. They were professional and courteous and at the end of each day made sure that the entire area was cleaned up. They even went as far as to rake the grass to remove any debris. We have had rain a couple of times since the driveway was poured and the pitch is correct and there are no low spots or puddling. The finished Driveway looks Great! I highly recommend bald Eagle for any concrete jobs.
Description of Work: Removed old Driveway and widened and re-poured a New Concrete Driveway.

Bald Eagle did a great job. Once we signed the contract and paid the deposit, we were fairly quickly put on the schedule. Our scheduled start date was pushed back one day due to rain but they completed the bulk of the work in a single day the next day and returned for a short time to finish up around the chimney. They explained what would be done, they provided feedback and photos of the work/areas of concern they found as the work progressed. When I returned home the first night I was so pleased to find the roof done except for the finishing touches and there was virtually no sign (other than a new roof) that any work had taken place. I have never seen the area around a home that was re-roofed so neat. I found only a single plastic tear strip from a shingle and a single roofing nail hidden on the deck - nothing else left behind. My plants around the house were protected as well - no damage. I think the roof looks great.
