Bald Eagle Construction

This is the third time I've used Bald Eagle Construction. Kevin was recommended by a neighbor and I have recommended him to others. Kevin replaced my house roof and later repaired some damage to it caused by squirrels. Kevin and his people are punctual, professional and do excellent work.

Kevin Wood, president, submitted the most comprehensive and professional bid of the several I received. He is very knowledgeable about concrete work and was very agreeable to discussing my questions and comments. He uses only a few select crews to do his work. My crew was highly skilled; they worked carefully and fast; they did absolutely no damage as they removed the old concrete; they coordinated well with the several mixer-truckloads of cement, poured and finished it off beautifully, It has no puddles. Their clean-up on completion was prompt and complete; they did no damage to my lawn. I was very satisfied with their price and workmanship.

I hired Bald Eagle Construction to work on my roof that was in dire need of repair. Basically, I needed them to tear off the old shingles, install new ones and perform any necessary tuck pointing of the chimney. Kevin, the owner, told me it would take 2 days to complete the job, but it got stretched out to 5 days. It wasn't a big deal because it didn't interrupt us much and I understand that sometimes things occur outside of their control. My only real issue was communication. When I accepted Kevin's quote, he told me that we would meet on the first day to discuss the scope of work before his team began working on my roof. That didn't happen. When I reached out to him to find out what was going on via text and voice mail, I didn't get a response for two days. That was after I received a text informing me that the final payment was due. I came to find out later that it was an apparent miscommunication on Kevin's part, due to lines being crossed. The reason why I would hire Bald Eagle again was that there was an issue with the interior of my roof that Kevin addressed swiftly. I didn't need to argue or convince him that the issue was due to the work of his roofers, he just had someone come over the next morning to fix it. Overall, Bald Eagle Construction did a pretty good job.

So first is first. We had gone with 123 Remodeling (Amit was project manager) for a project back in late August. We were building a basement bathroom, front stair rebuild (was concrete and we wanted wood) and same work Kevin from Bald Eagle ended up doing. They had worked 3 weeks on our property and we were left in shock. Our basement was half-assed while they worked outside so as of now I have a 8x8 sq. foot patch of dirt where they took concrete out to do plumbing. We stopped them because of the wok they did on outside. Front stairs were not to code, and the concrete walkway, I wish I could post the pictures, I truly believe Romans of 2000 years ago had better roads that what we got. Anyway we stopped the work, we told them to pack up and leave, after losing out some money we just couldn't believe they could do anything good after the work they had completed. We couldn't keep the sidewalk the way it was, our hearts just sank overtime we walked out there. Called a couple of places including Bald Eagle, Kevin came out and and took about 15 minutes looking and writing. He sent me the estimate that night, and I just jumped on the chance after the experience form our last contractor. Time/scheduling was probably the worst part of this project. To be honest the other two companies also mentioned times in late October, early November. I had got the estimate on September 22. Being hurt by the first contractor I did get worried late October when I still not had heard about any finalized dates and gave them a deposit. I did get emails back when I sent them so that kept me in check. When they finally had start date, it came, they came, did what they said they would do (worked with Arturo, project manager) cleaned up (great job by the way) and left. In the end they left us with a beautiful walkway, and i really appreciated the work.

Kevin Wood is a consummate professional. I wish that every construction project would go as amazingly well as this one did! It was a dream job well done. He came out in person to estimate the project, explained in plain talk and detail exactly how he would approach the project concerning the timing, materials and the quality of the work he would perform. He gave me a start date based on his best guess, which would be sooner or later depending on the weather. He promised he would get the work done before Thanksgiving. He also offered a senior discount, which was generous. His written proposal was even more detailed as his presentation to me, and included his business license and permit bond, proof of liability insurance, proof of a stellar record with the BBB and Angie's List, and over 2 dozen references with addresses and phone numbers. He also provided a brochure: "Home Repair: Know Your Consumer Rights?. This pamphlet was created by the Illinois Attorney General?s Office. And we had to sign it and return it as part of the contract with our deposit. This was so great because I had recently had a terrible experience with a company that did not live up to their legal obligations to me and I wish I had this information then. I discussed the details of the project with Kevin and agreed on the proposal with some minor revisions I requested to deal with our existing gates on the driveway. We paid the deposit and several weeks later he called to let us know the crew would be there to do demolition and pre-pour framing on a Wednesday. The pre-pour work was completed in one day. Kevin let us know the inspector would be there that Friday and asked us to let him know what the inspector said. Inspection passed with no comments. The cement work was done the next Monday. The crew was polite and professional and cleaned up before they left. I especially appreciated the fact that only the area being worked on was affected...they didn't dig up the lawn with equipment tires or leave dings in anything...it was meticulous. Kevin let us know that final inspection would be that Thursday and we passed that without comments. It is a beautiful drive. You'll never be disappointed with the best when you choose Bald Eagle for your concrete work. I'm so grateful for their communication and transparency on every level, their professionalism, and work ethic. I recommend them without reservation.

This company displayed a professional demeanor but acted differently. 1 1/2 months after cashing my deposit check, this company did not provide the work agreed upon. For several weeks Bald Eagle Construction ignored our job and would not offer a date the work would be done. We nagged, and nagged and nagged. The work (a new driveway to replace our old one) never started. We're in suburban Chicago and I needed the work completed before it snowed. By the second week in November and frequent nagging I was not offered a start date. The job would have taken about 2 weeks, so I demanded that he start the work in about a week. My driveway is not kind to my snowblower and I needed the work done. I gave them a "final" start date of November 16. In a curt e-mail reply, (the president, Kevin Wood) said he'd send a refund of my deposit minus that he spent for a building permit. I don't have time to seek another contractor before the snow. I suppose my snowblower, (like the Cubs) will have to wait 'til next year. I'll have to shovel. Before this delay, the company told me they could not wait for railings to be installed and would need full payment once the concrete was in place because it would take 3 weeks longer. My village requires railings be installed before inspection. I insisted they'd receive their full final payment, once the job was complete and inspected.

Unfortunately, we also were getting some home remodeling done which coincided with the plan for the cement work. We did not know that the 2 jobs would collide until this week. Given the conflict and the fact that the weather was an unpredictable factor for the concrete job, we asked to cancel the contract for this year and requested our down payment back. Kevin had his foreman reschedule the work to fit us in this week but the jobs would still overlap. He did an amazing job of trying to work with us and we have every intension of hiring him next year to do the concrete work (in the spring). If the quality of his work is anything like the customer service he provides, then I'm sure he'll do an awesome job for us in the spring.

Everything was done as promised and on time!

We had an excellent experience and courteous service throughout the bidding, planning, permitting, construction and final installation. The repair was completed in one working week. The crew was considerate, efficient, and clean. We would highly recommend Bald Eagle Construction.

They were prompt in getting the detailed contract to us, and gave us the 2 days notice we requested to notify the neighbors so they could move their cars. They provided a sample of the shingle to be used which matched the house roof. Plants were covered and they were very thorough in the clean up afterwards. I found no nails anywhere which has not always been the case with other roofers we have had! Very pleased with the work they did and would recommend them to anyone. Will keep them in mind for any other projects we may have in the future!

I worked directly with Kevin, the President of Bald Eagle. From start to finish, he was professional, knowledgeable and responsive. His crew was also great to work with. We had a storage POD in the middle of the driveway and they took extra care and time to do as little damage to the yard as possible. They also worked with my landscaping crew to coordinate the burying of a downspout and pouring of concrete on top. I highly recommend Bald Eagle to everyone!

I could not have asked more from the experience. Kevin was prompt to our first meeting, on a Saturday to meet my schedule. He also had the proposal to me the next day - a Sunday. Very professional and classy. The crew he sent out was very prompt, respectful, took very good care of the landscaping and lawn. The crew was also very dedicated to making sure they got all the details I requested perfect. Overall this was a stellar experience.

Could not have been a better experience! Kevin was very prompt for our original appointment and I received the estimate the next day. The crew was also very prompt each day, polite and knowledgeable. They were also very good about doing the minimal amount of damage to the surrounding grass and landscaping. The crew confirmed the many details that I had requested while framing and pouring. I could not be happier about the overall experience.

Everything went very well. I was well informed as to the details of who would be arriving on which days and the crews always arrived on time. Everyone working on the project was considerate of my property as well as my neighbors. The driveway itself looks great and it is pitched perfectly with no low spots. The cost for a full concrete driveway was also very reasonable. I highly recommend Bald Eagle Construction for concrete work.

We highly recommend Bald Eagle. Bald Eagle was always prompt, actually started early when an opening developed in their schedule. Each time we had a question or wanted to modify the terms of the work, they got back to us right away with revised prices. They got the work done on time and were very thorough in cleaning up which is important in a roofing job, especially where they do a tear off which they did. Their work was top quality. Their price was competitive. We received 3 estimates and all were within about 3% or 4% of each other. Both the other companies, though also A rated by Angie's list, had reputations for not showing up on time. That was reflected in problems even getting the others to come out and quote. Bald Eagle came out right away and was always promptly responsive to questions and changes. The others were not. We had two minor issues. Both are arguably not related to Bald Eagle, but are worth mentioning. One related to the positioning of the new downspouts on the gutters. They made some minor changes, but did not consult us. Actually, we don't think the gutter installer realized its installation was different from the original configuration, but it has some slight cosmetic consequences and we wish it had been brought to our attention so we could have decided whether to reinstall to the original design. Also, the Bald Eagle foreman recommended a Fakro skylight instead of one from Velux. It saved several hundred dollars. However, the Fakro unit turned out to be cheaply made and continues to be a problem. It is a product problem, not an installation problem so it is not an issue with Bald Eagle, per se. I don't know if they had enough experience with the Fakro product to know of its cheap quality since Fakro is new to the U.S. market, but in the future I hope they advise clients of the inferior quality of the Fakro units. All-in-all we would not hesitate to go with Bald Eagle again and we highly recommend them.

Wonderful job. They took care of coordinating with a plumbing contractor that was working in our courtyard the week before and needed to return to finalize things once the concrete was poured Transformed our courtyard which had been a disaster of broken concrete.

The front porch was the worst with up to four layers of singles. Despite these surprises, the crew finished the job in what I felt was record time. I would definitely recommend them to anyone requiring a new rook.

I received three estimates. Bald Eagle was the most professional and the only one who followed the municipality's guidelines. They were the middle of the three estimates in terms of cost. The job was thoroughly explained up front and any follow up questions were met with an immediate response. There were no "surprises." The job went as planned. Communication was excellent throughout the process.

SEE ABOVE . THEY WERE WONDERFUL. PROFESSIONAL RELIABLE ANSWERED ALL QUESTIONS THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE. THE FRONT STAIRS AND PORCH WERE VERY OLD AND THE DIFFERENCE IN LOOKS IS AMAZING.

The concrete porch/steps had separated from the front of the house and required replacement in order to pass village inspection in order to sell the house. Kevin Wood and his crew demolished the old porch and replaced it within the time frame and dollar estimate originally promised.

I called Kevin in mid-July to come out and give an estimate on this project. He came out and answered our questions and concerns, as the last winter had taken a toll on our patio. The patio concrete had large cracks and pits. Two of the walkways had been resurfaced, but now had cracks as well. Kevin was very thorough and professional, taking measurements and providing a proposal the next day. Once we decided on Bald Eagle, I scheduled the work 2 months out so we could be on site for this project. Kevin and I communicated by email every step of the project, the start date, when to expect the inspections, etc. The crew was on time each day, very professional, and easy to work with. Due to the depth and amount of (60 years old) concrete in the yard, the crew needed the bobcat to break up the concrete. I had expressed my concern to Kevin earlier because I did not want the bobcat to destroy my grass. However his crew did lay planks on the grass so that there was minimum disruption. They actually removed all the concrete in 1 day. Each day the crew cleaned up the work areas, they were very organized. The weather was perfect for concrete work, so the work proceeded without a hitch. We were extremely pleased with the results, the concrete is pitched correctly in all areas. The project was actually finished several days earlier than expected which was nice as well. We would definitely hire Bald Eagle again, and I have already passed their information to several friends interested in concrete work on their homes.

All seemed to proceed as planned. The agreed upon section of mortar on my home was replaced. The brick cheek wall to the front porch stairs was disassembled and rebuilt. The end products, the cheek wall and the house mortar look great. The actual concrete stairs were another issue. Bald Eagle removed the stairs down to the foundation and poured new stairs. All looked well until the first rain. The stairs were not pitched correctly and so water pooled on the stairs. This was expecially unsafe during the winter months when the pooling water formed sheets of ice on the stairs. I reached out to Kevin at Bald Eagle on several occasions, by e-mail, by phone and in wiriting, but have recieved no response. The situation is so unfortunate as Blad Eagle earlier replaced my roof and installed new gutters. i was very pleased with those projects but am just beside myself with disappointment over the lack of response regarding the poor stairway construction.
