A tenant had a problem with lock working. Called John morning of 9/17/11. He said he would call the tenant right away. Tenant called him back then as well as the  morning of 9/19/11. John did not call her back. Evening of 9/19/11 lock stops working and tenant is locked out. She calls John again and leaves message, as do I. After almost an hour he returns the call, & said he would come over in 10 minutes (he is local). Shows up a half hour later. Tells me at that point he was going to charge emergency rates ($104/hr) instead of regular rates ($52/hr). I told him that this didn't seem fair, as we had tried to schedule this the last two days and he hadn't returned calls. I then asked to split the difference. He said "How about you take your key back, then, and try to get somebody else out here to do it". I had little choice (as the tenant was locked out), and said OK.

Another issue is that when he dropped the new key off, he told me that if I had the Schlage rekey, maybe he wouldn't have had to replace the lock. I told him I had the rekey and he had my cell phone, so why didn't he ask me for it?

All in all a miserable experience, and a lesson to me in using Angie's List. John had an A grade, but only from 2 reports. In the future i will NEVER use someone that has only a couple of reports, no matter how high their grades are.

They were wonderful.  They were honest, did a quick work, and did really well.  I highly recommend them.  We wanted locks replaced for our front and back door.  They advise us, there is no reason to do that, and it will be very expensive.  The way that worked, we were quite satisfied with them, and they saved us a lot of money.  The price was reasonable.  We will use them again, and we have kept the business card for the same reason.

We initially thought John would have to order a part, but it turns out he had the right size spindle in his van. From beginning to end the job took 45 minutes. We even have a higher quality replacement, John used a solid steel spindle, the door came with a hollow steel spindle that just could not take high use. Every time John has come to our home he has been punctual, friendly, and honest. I recommend him to anyone.

We gave John a call, explained the situation, and he came out the same day to take a look at it, at no charge. After assessing what needed to be done, he promptly called me back the same day, explained how he had a couple of ideas, and let me know how he would do it and how much it could cost. We agreed and he promised to have the job done by week's end. I called on a Tuesday originally and he had the job done the next day, at the same price he quoted. John is very personable, takes the time to explain things, and is very trustworthy.
