The windows were in in about 3 weeks after we ordered them. Steve called me on a Wednesday and was ready to install on Thursday, but we had to wait until Monday. The install took 2 days, they did the custom framing for the 4 windows right on site, and did not break 1 window! They came the next day at 7:30 am to finish the outside work. We love everything about the work they did, they install process was much neater and appears to be done better. We will see over time, but the fact they didn't break a single window made me very happy!
The installers (sub-contractors?) seemed professional and did a good job (the door itself looked good though there were cosmetic imperfections like chips). I wish they were a little more accommodating - they didn't install the knocker they removed from the old door. They also used my garage to build a cupola for another job! Steve was supposed to follow up on the finishing of the new door (put me in touch with one of his regulars) but I ended up doing it myself. I curiously didn't have any contact with him after the completion of the project and he hasn't stopped by to check on the new door installation.
Based on the whole experience, I will hire him again.
We did have a small problem with getting the construction scheduled prior to me taking a vacation. And therefore it was completed a couple weeks later than I had hoped. But Steve was very accommodating with sending a crew to demo the existing portico ahead of time so that I could also have some paving work completed on my walkway and porch. When his crew came back for the construction Steve also came that morning. He confirmed with us the placement of the new pillars, and cedar bases and made sure we approved of everything before the construction began. The crew was very professional as well and the work was completed in a day and half. The construction supervisor also took time to check in with me a couple of times throughout the day to show me the progress. The craftsmanship is superb. My new portico is absolutely beautiful. I now drive up to my house with a new sense of pride and joy. Steve exceeded my expectations. His design was better than I ever imagined it would be. My home is now set apart from my neighbors and I love it. And my friends, family and neighbors have all complimented me on the changes that were made. I know that Steve has made the neighbors jealous by giving me such an amazing new look and I couldn't be happier.
We ordered a new door, including the surrounding molding, for a small office in the northern suburbs from Nu-Concepts Windows. They were local and the owner came out personally to provide counsel and quote the job. At that point it was noted that new carpeting would be installed and that the return hinge would need to be replaced.
The ordering process went as expected, however, the installation has proven to be a comedy of (incompetent) errors. In spite of precise measurements taken for new the height of new carpeting the door was cut too low ("not to worry, we will come out and cut the door down when the carpet is installed"). In spite of acknowledging the existing door hinge return would be inadequate, the old (and too weak) return hinge was BOLTED into the door ...and the door would not close automatically as it was designed to ("not to worry, we can find a new door return hinge and replace the old one"). The hinge was replaced, but of course necessitated that we have the painter return and stain the door where the old bolts (i.e, extraneous holes in the new door) were.
Unfortunately, even with the new return the door would not close. At this point it was recommended that we put soap on the door clasp so the door would slide closed every time someone entered or exited the office. So $2,500 and 2 months later we are told that for our door to work properly we need to place liquid soap on the clasping mechanism. The final straw was our request to fix the door given the height of the carpet. The owner no longer wants anything to do with our project (can't really blame him...neither do we) and his installer stopped by and said ("I know nothing about cutting the door down to fit the new carpet ... maybe you should call the owner"). The owner refuses to come by to remedy the unfinished job.
Bottom line ...we ordered a new (solid wood) office door which was installed improperly ...and two moths later is still somewhat dysfunctional ...I recommend avoiding Nu-Concepts.
The work started on the date agreed upon and was completed on schedule. The workmen were very hard workers and did a wonderful job. (Also cleaned up their mess daily. ) Steve would stop by from time to time and check on the progress, plus ask if we had any questions or concerns.
We are extremely satisfied with the final outcome and have received many compliments on our beautiful siding & trim!
Mauritz and his crew were simply amazing, these guys worked through the worst of weather...of course we hadn't had much bad weather until we started our job; snow, sleat, rain and then the massivie melting (imagine working under the soffits with no gutters). Every day discussed the job process for that day, came to the door one day and apoligized for going home (it was raining and miserable--I don't think I would have even attempted that day) but these guys were very conscience. Every day our driveway, garage and yard were cleared of debris and they kept their recycleables (gutters & downspouts) in one location at the back of our home until ready to haul away and respected our request to be able to put one car in the garage in the evening. We of course custom- ordered a front door and that took several weeks to come in, and as soon as that was in they came back and installed, which is gorgeous at this time they took care of some details that I had noticed that I had wanted addressed. Mauritz would have come back prior to door installation if they were pressing, but we felt that we could wait until the door was installed, which gave us more time to review the job.
I would definetly recommend this company, I was very pleased with the contact we had with Ken and how he addressed each concern, like it was his own home.
Steve recommended Marvin replacement doors with a triple-lock mechanism. Considering the burglar kicked in the door so easily, I decided to not only replace the second story doors, but those on the first floor as well. Steve put a "rush" on the order with Marvin. And kept me updated on expected delivery date.
Nu-Concepts installed the new doors on a Saturday. At 8:00 am, a crew of five arrived with the new doors. John and his team were amazing. They immediately divided up and synchronized the work so that the old doors could be removed, the entry prepared and the new doors installed. The only problem the crew discovered was that the walls in the entry were not straight, so that meant cutting drywall on the first floor to fit the new doors correctly...a task they completed to perfection. By 2:30 pm, doors were installed on two floors. The crew didn't take a break and worked straight through. They worked efficiently, professionally, and were very careful. Steve Walowitz stopped by to check on the installation. The new doors are completely fabulous! They are heavy, exceptionally well-made, and the triple lock provides a sense of security.
Throughout this whole process, Nu-Concepts was absolutely terrific. They are professional, competent, hard-working. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Steve and the Nu-Concepts team.
