Homebuilders
Robert Kos of Kos Custom Builders in Northbrook is a scam artist. He was supposed to build custom shelves, but took the deposit and disappeared. It has been impossible to track him down via phone, email, text, etc. Homeowners, please take care -- I notice he is now marketing himself as someone to help others who have suffered during the flood. Let others learn from mistakes: Tip #1 Never give any money at all to any contractor, even if he/she was recommended by a friend. Set up an escrow account against which draws can be made upon completion of each phase of the contract. Tip#2 Do a detailed background check via BBB, Yelp, and Angie's List. Anecdotal reference from a friend is not enough.
