My dog had a knee operation. He was still limping and I was concerned so I took him into another vet to be seen and get an x-ray. I brought him home and he was still limping so I brought him back in here to speak to the surgeon. I like the surgeon, he was very good and knowledgeable. The staff leaves something to be desired, in my mind they have to many people running around over there, they can afford to hire more people. Their price is pretty steep. I am still waiting for my dog's leg to heal, he is still limping. They are responsive, but sometimes getting through to the surgeon is getting shuffled from one tech to another. They are pretty punctual, most of the time if there is not an emergency. The last few times I was there I spent a while waiting. They changed the shape of the knee in the dog's leg, it's equivalent to a torn acl. There is no guarantee when it comes to medicine. He treated my dog ok, I just dropped him off. The facility itself is very nice, almost like walking into a hotel. I think they have to much support staff that don't know what they are doing.

They are available all the time since they are open 24 hours.  They were referred to me and they are very professional.  They are pricey.  We felt that the vets were very responsive but not the staff at the front office.

This is a specialty center my dog was referred to come here. They performed a splenectomy on my dog and were able to diagnose his cancer. I love Dr Rindaly, he's very accommodating and gives me options. He's very respectful of my decisions which I feel is very important. He's very empathetic and knowledgeable. He is very supportive of the pet and the owner!

Facility is beautiful. People at the front desk were so friendly - I did not expect that. The wait rooms were clean and updated, and they had a special room with a sofa that we moved to when we had to say goodbye to our cat. All around, this place is just fantastic.

I had a 16 year old little poodle named Inky who had some chronic health problems. I had asked my regular vet where I should take Inky if he should need care at night or on a Sunday and he told me to take him to BluePearl. On a Saturday night I noticed that Inky kept holding his head up in the air as if sniffing at something. When he was laying down he kept his head propped up as well. He wasn't struggling and seemed very comfortable and had eaten all of his meals that day so I wasn't too worried at the beginning. But he did not sleep at all that night and I sat with him on my lap on the couch with his head propped up against the arm all night. By morning I knew something serious was going on, so I took him to BluePearl Emergency Veterinary which is now on Frontage Road in Northfield. I called them first, so they were expecting me. As soon as I arrived a vet tech came out and asked me what was going on with Inky. He took him to be examined and said someone would update me shortly. In the meantime, I filled out registration paperwork. I was then taken to an examination room where I waited only briefly for the doctor to come in. Doctor Anderson came in and said she had examined Inky and diagnosed him with heart failure. He was in a pretty serious way. They could try drugs, but even if successful this time, it would happen again. She said I should think about euthanasia. I knew in my heart that this was the most humane thing to do at this point, so I told her that it was what I wanted to do. She said that he was on oxygen and that they would catheterize him and bring me back to be with him. I was escorted to another private room that had a nice couch and chair. It was a warm comforting room, maybe their bereavement room. Dr. Anderson came and got me and took me back to Inky. He was lying on the table on top of a rainbow patterned blanket. They removed the oxygen mask and I petted him and kissed him and talked to him. Dr. Anderson said he wasn't doing well, so I gave the OK to start the euthanasia. It was very fast and Inky was very peaceful. Dr. Anderson was so kind and gentle. I had told them that I wanted to take Inky back home with me as my husband had to work all night Saturday and Sunday as well and hadn't had the opportunity to say goodbye. They said that was fine. They took me back to the private room to wait. Someone came in and asked if I would like Inky's paw print. I said yes, thinking it would be an ink print on a piece of paper. A little while later they brought Inky to me. They had placed him in a special covered cardboard box, like a coffin. He was covered with a little blue blanket as though he was tucked in for the night. It was so comforting. They also gave me a list of pet crematories that I could take him to. All in all, BluePearl made a very sad experience as warm, gentle and loving as they possibly could and I will never forget it. Then, two days later in the mail, I received a clay disk of the imprints of two of Inky's paws with his name imprinted at the top. BluePearl is truly top notch.

The moment we walked in we were treated with courtesy and respect. The front desk staff, tech nurses, and the doctor were all very kind, thorough, and clear. We went in to get a second opinion, and to also have a biopsy on our cat who has cancer. Dr. Averill treated our cat with dignity and care, and although the results were not good, we were called within a few days rather than a week - and this was the week of Christmas where we knew everyone was shortstaffed.

The staff at the animal hospital are all great and I mean from the receptionists to the nurses to the techs and of course the doctors. They are as friendly as can be even if you are like me and are calling them for the third time in one day because something is worrying you about your dog whose just come home after surgery. They are very knowledgeable as well. My 4 year old weiner-beagle dog came in with some kind of spinal injury that paralyzed his rear legs within 36 hours of initial symptoms. The doctors believed it was a vertebral disc problem and prepped him for an MRI and surgery if the MRI showed disc problems. It ended up that he had 2 discs blow out (for lack of the technical term). My dog is currently recovering and it is not known how well he will ever walk again. Although it makes me sad to think of him as possibly never regaining much more movement, if it happens I know that it was fate because he was getting top notch veterinary care. My dog has 6 more weeks of good recovery time and I've had friends donate money for his rehab expenses so I am still optimistic he will walk again.
The only criticism I have is the communication I've gotten about his overall situation. Nobody ever talked to me about the fact that he had an actual disease, I thought he did something that caused his injuries. It ends up that he has intervertebral disc disease and learned about it on the internet. I would have liked if someone discussed the information with me early on so that I understood his situation because at the time I thought that once the surgery wais done he would be and quot;fixedand quot; and that isn't necessarily true. Since he has the disease, he may have disc problems in the future. Even with the information I am pretty certain I would have had the surgery done anyway. I just think a doctor or nurse should have discussed it with me. Normally I ask a lot of questions, but knowing time was of the essence with the surgery, I was too worried about my dog and didn't ask many. I'm sure many people are the same way so they shouldn't rely on owners to ask the important questions. I do want to add that this is my experience and it is possible that it is an anomaly. With the great care my dog has gotten I find it rather surprising that communication about the disease was so lacking. Perhaps other people have not had that occur. We'll need more ratings to know. Even with this criticism, I highly recommend anyone going to this emergency vet hospital because the care is great and *all* the people are wonderful. ((By the way, my dog's surgeon was Dr. Averill)
As for the expense, it may be more because it's in the Chicagoland area, but it's probably pretty on par with other places near by. It was expensive but the follow up appointments are at no additional cost as long as no more tests need to be done.
