I got a couple of estimates and they were more expensive than some others but they were more professional. I especially liked being able to pick and choose what I wanted done instead of having to buy a package.

I've tried other services, but you get what you pay for. They are not only well trained and professional, they have a Quality Assurance Supervisor who does inspections.

I have been a customer for over 15 years. I have always found Gretchen, the owner to be very fair to both her customers and her maids. She has high expectations and standards of conduct for both. She makes sure they are paid very well for the hard work they do and that they are safe in the homes they clean. I like that Gretchen looks out for her staff as if they were family and not just a means to an end.
Gretchen also encourages them to go back to school and better themselves. I like that! While I would love to have had the same maid for the last 15 years, as Gretchen says "we don't want them on their hands and knees at 50 unless that is their passion"!

I was a customer of Merry Maids for over 3 years. For the first couple of years they did a very good job cleaning my house. Unfortunately, within the last year or so the quality of their service began to suffer significantly. At first I could usually count on the same lady each visit to clean my house. She was experienced and knew my specific needs and I was quite happy with the service. Then they began having some turnover issues and I started seeing new ladies show up every month or so who were often very inexperienced at cleaning and would completely miss performing some of the most basic tasks. A couple of the young ladies had poor attitudes that made the experience even more unpleasant. Also two other very concerning issues was when they overcharged my credit card on several occasions and completely skipped cleaning my guest bedroom for several months. When I brought this to their attention they apologized, refunded the overcharges, and blamed both of these issues on new software they were using. I also started providing some constructive feedback to Gretchen (the owner) hoping she could address these problems in an effort to improve their overall service. However, many of the problems continued and in the end I even experienced some unprofessional behavior from the her and one of her employees.
It?s unfortunate, but the quality of their service is not what it used to be.

Had another wonderful experience with Merry Maids! I contacted Gretchen about cleaning an older home that we were getting ready to sell. Gretchen totally worked with my crazy schedule, and got my house cleaned that week, and on a Saturday. Amy arrived early, and she was prepared to work! Amy was very friendly and pleasant. She worked hard, and did a thorough job. The house sparkled! Our house sold in 8 days, & the #1 comment I received was how clean the house was. Gretchen and Jennifer were fabulous to work with. They were friendly and very professional. I will always use Merry Maids whenever I need help with any kind of cleaning.

The actual workers who come to clean are awesome. The job is always well done.
But the two women who sit at the main office Missy and Gretchen are the problem. They don't have any idea how to be polite or professional to the customers. So just because of the attitude of these two ladies, I'm dropping their services. I would find a better way to spend my $$ without getting their attitude.

A few months ago I contacted several housecleaning services in the area. Merry Maids was the only one that had availability within the next few weeks. I also had a coupon and had heard positive things on the radio. The owner, Tim, is a nice guy -- friendly, thoughtful and helpful as he went through the house. Then, within a few days, two women came and did a four hour cleaning of my house to get it to a kind of neutral base level cleanliness. That seemed fine. Every service that was available wanted to do this. One that I decided not to use would do this four-hour, base level cleaning ONLY on a Saturday. After the initial cleaning two women, usually the same women, came every other week. I needed housecleaning because I had hurt my foot.
The women who cleaned the house were friendly. But the products that they used and the way they cleaned were not quite what I was hoping for. The chemicals were rather strong in their products. While I liked that they brought their own cleaners (as some cleaning services I have used have given me a list and told me to buy specific products for them), the stuff they used was rather strong. Also, they washed my hardwood floor with mostly water and some kind of Ajax-type soap. Recently, I asked them to use a Murphy Soap mix, which didn't seem to totally bother them. I asked about cleaning my Haywood Wakefield wood dining room table. They said that they normally clean the table with Windex and water. Fortunately, I have had the top refinished so it can withstand a lot of wear, but Windex seemed odd for furniture cleaning.
The best thing that they did was sweep around the ceiling and use brushes throughout to lightly dust. Once the owner came over to help out, which was nice.
Merry Maids has a specific routine that they do. Nothing more. That's fine, if that's all you want. But if you want anything else, they charge a lot more.
The service schedules home on a specific day, which is great. That morning they will call and provide a 1 1/2 hour timeframe of when they will come. Frequently they came toward the end of that timeframe. Probably other people wanted something more done in their house which caused them to get behind on the schedule. Unfortunately, that meant I had to sit around for 1 1/2 hours waiting for them. Maybe not the longest timeframe, but still.
I think if you want a kind of and quot;central Illinois styleand quot; of house cleaning, Merry Maids would be fine. If you give them the key and you're gone all day, so you don't really care what time they came in, they would be fine. Or, if you're home all day and you don't really care when they come, Merry Maids would probably be fine, too. They are probably the friendliest people I have had clean.

They are definitely an A rating, I have no qualms about the price and the quality is excellent. They are right on time and are here when they say they will be. They just do an excellent job, they are prompt and I am getting older and use to do it myself but I am getting old for it now.

I was working full time and my elderly father was living with me. My Dad moved back to Minnesota and I stopped using them because he wasn't living with me any more and I was trying to cut expenses. They did a fine job. I had them come out once a month.

Merry Maids has been cleaning our home for about 5 months. We've been happy with their work. They've generally been very good about responding to particular requests. If the precise time of the cleaning matters, make sure they're very clear on it. We have them coming and quot;Any time after 9am.and quot; They have once shown up before then and the time they do show up varies widely.
The price is not low, but seems to be very much in line with others. One thing I particularly like about Merry Maids is their willingness to try to figure out what we want in the cleaning and then give us a price based on that.

They do an overall good job, and if they miss something, then they will come out the next day to resolve the problem. When I have specific instructions for cleaning, they are tentative to my requests.

I have favorable things to say about them. They adjusted the price because I do not need as much wok as they were expecting to do.

The cleaning personnel worked hard and did a decent job on what they did. However, the "deep cleaning" (dusting cobwebs, wiping window woodwork, etc) just never happened. The company only allowed staff to spend an hour or so at the house, regardless of the number of cleaners working. If 3 people cleaned, they were out of the house in 1 hour. If 1 person cleaned, that person was out of the house in 1 hour. My problem with Merry Maids was the overall cost. Initially I was charged $108 for a bi-weekly cleaning. Then, when I commented on how expensive it was in a Merry Maids-generated survey, they contacted me and said they had re-evaluated my file and they would reduce the price to $90. Great! But even at $90, if 2 cleaners stayed for 1 hour it worked out to $45/hour...and my house just wasn't getting cleaned thoroughly since they were limited to a 1-hour timeframe. To her credit, the business owner (Gretchen) did try to work with me on the cleaning issues, but in the end I felt I just wasn't getting the value considering what I was paying.

They do what they said they would do, and are very attentive to making sure we are satisfied. It's not cheap, but the price seems fair for the time they spend--two people for 2+ hours, and they don't dally.

My experience was great. The team was neatly dressed and friendly. They did a fantastic job and made sure I was happy. Then I received a follow-up call to make sure I was still satisfied.
